Office Grand Opening
Thanks to everyone who turned out on Saturday for the grand opening of our new office. A fun group of folks stopped in to visit our new digs at 48630 Main Street in Dollar Bay.

Staffed with the volunteers who've already stepped up, we will be open on Friday evenings 6 PM to 8 PM, and Saturdays from 10 AM to 3 PM. Stop by to pick up yard signs, brochures and buttons to support our local candidates.

We are still looking for additional volunteers who can be available on a regular basis for perhaps a couple of hours weekly, on a particular weekday evening or Saturday, from now until Election Day. If you'd like to volunteer to staff the office, please sign up using the Volunteer Form on our website.
HCDP Officers and guests are joined by two candidates for Houghton County Commissioner, Dan Watrous Jr, candidate in District 2 (3rd from L), and Glenn Anderson, incumbent candidate for District 3 (4th from R).
Button Making In Progress
RFFA and PTV 2022 Officially on the Ballot
Michigan's Board of Canvassers voted unanimously this past Friday to place the Reproductive Freedom for All, and Promote the Vote proposals on the November ballot. Friday's vote followed a ruling from the Michigan Supreme Court instructing the Board to certify both proposals.

Despite the recommendation of the Bureau of Elections, which found that both proposals had gathered more than enough signatures, the Republicans on the Board of Canvassers had initially voted not to certify. The Republicans cited spurious complaints about "readability" of the RFFA proposal, and a supposed defect of the PTV proposal in detailing a complete list of every constitutional provision that would be impacted if voters adopt the amendment. In both cases the Supreme Court ruled that the Board had a clear legal duty to certify the petitions.

Promote the Vote is now Proposal 2 on the Fall Ballot, while Reproductive Freedom for All is now Proposal 3.

You can learn more about the Proposals in these Bridge Michigan articles:

The Houghton County Democrats urge you to vote "YES" on both proposals.

Upcoming Events

Adopt a Highway - Round 3
Calling all volunteers to join us for Round 3 of clean up on our adopted section of  M-26o, from just past Goat Hill Rd heading out of Ripley, and on through Dollar Bay.  We will gather to clean this highway on Friday, September 23rd at 5:30pm.

Parking is available at the Adopt-
A-Highway sign just past Goat Hill Rd.  We provide gloves, safety vests and bags.  After the pick up we typically meet at Quincy's for dinner and conversation.  Please join us so we can continue this very worthwhile community service.  Hope to see you there!
Get Ready to Knock on Doors!
"Democracy is not a spectator sport, it's a participatory event. If we don't participate in it, it ceases to be a democracy."
-- Michael Moore
Our Political Organizing Vice-Chair Audrey Gerard is busily preparing walk lists and seeking volunteers to get out and knock on doors in support of our Democratic candidates in the fall election. If you can help with door knocking, sign up on the Volunteer Form on our website. Please indicate your availability in the Comments box on the form (i.e. something like "available most Saturdays after 10 AM").
