Heaton Hotline - Week 3, Term 2
We nurture and inspire every child to dream big.
Good afternoon Heaton,
It was so lovely to see our community come together again on Friday for our Mother's Day Breakfast. A big thank you to our mums, nans, grandmas and aunties for the work that you do! Our children are lucky to have you support them everyday and in particular over a very busy couple of years with the pandemic.
We hope that our families that celebrated the end of Ramadan last week had a wonderful time together.
On the 26th May, We are inviting our community in to the school for open classroom visits between 12:30 - 1pm. This will be followed by a community picnic. Children will be allowed to wear traditional cultural dress or orange clothes on the day, to celebrate diversity, inclusion and harmony.
We want to show you the wonderful learning experiences taking place in our classrooms!
Mr Hilton
NAPLAN
Year 3 and Year 5 will sit the NAPLAN Assessments this week. NAPLAN is a point in time snapshot of your child's learning in literacy and numeracy and allows our staff to cater to your child's learning needs in literacy and numeracy.
The children have been working hard with their classroom teachers and support teachers to finesse their skills.
Please see our school's NAPLAN timetable below.
Stage 3 Camp
Attendance Matters - 'Here Every Day, Ready On Time' - Uniform Draw
We talk to our children in class and show them their class attendance and individual attendance graphs. This week, we have been looking for children with 100% attendance this term.
Each morning on assembly we have a digital lottery where one student is selected randomly. If they are on time to school and dressed in full school uniform they get to have a principal morning tea at the end of the week.
Attendance is directly linked to academic results.
At the end of the year we will be giving a gift voucher out at presentation day to one student who has been at school 100% of the time. This will be done through a digital lottery.
We know 2022 data will be impacted when students are in isolation or away with Covid-19 or other illnesses. However, we still set high expectations for children to be at school when they are not sick.
School Photos
Some of our students missed their individual school photo due to having Covid or being in isolation. These individual photos will be made up on the 25th May.
Aboriginal Pedagogies
The Callaghan Education Pathways vision for Aboriginal Education is 'Shared Histories, Empowered Futures. Miss Russell, Mrs Devoy, Mr Laird and Miss Kitanonska will be participating in Aboriginal Pedagogies professional learning this term to continue to build on the work we do in delivering Aboriginal perspectives in our classroom learning. We will also be working with the Senior Campus to develop a 'Bush Tucker garden' that our children will develop and maintain.
