About this event
Join Miry's List for dinner on May 26, 2024 honoring Albina and Musenat Roman and in celebration of moms and families.
Afghan women and girls face unimaginable threats to their physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. Each and every one of these brave humans are on a hero's journey, and their courageousness and unrelenting hope is inspiring. Through Miry's List New Arrival Supper Club events, we create space for resettling refugees in Los Angeles to connect with their new neighbors.
Syrian dinner by Abeer Trad. Halal and vegetarian friendly.
About our Honorees, Albina and Muhsenat Roman
Albina and her daughter Muhsanat were separated from her husband and two sons at the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan in August 2021. You can learn more about their family's experience by reading here and watching this video about them on CNN. After a chaotic and harrowing nearly 3 year separation, Albina and Muhsenat have finally reunited with their family and are newly resettling in Los Angeles, together at last.
About Miry's List
We believe that intentional, individualized, and intense support provided to resettling refugee families in those difficult first 12-18 months leads to better outcomes for the community at large. The work that Miry’s List does is an investment — in families, in human beings, in new Americans. It’s about investing in them upon arrival because the need is so great and the impact is so real.
Because migration can be a traumatic experience.
It’s important for people to be of service, especially when they are going through challenging times and a lot of needs of their own. The experience of migrating as a refugee can be disheartening and even traumatic. Individuals and families can lose their sense of individuality, feel limited by societal stigmas and discrimination towards immigrants, lost, isolated and lonely.
New Arrival Supper Club directly counteracts these hardships.
We're creating space and creating a bridge Los Angeles community to meet people who have experienced resettlement as refugees. Though we may not share a spoken language, we have a shared human experience. We all seek out connections, we all rely on our neighbors, and a delicious meal not only nurtures the body, but the soul as well.
