Blending Art and Science: Turtles

May 23, 2024
6-7:30 p.m.

Kellogg Bird Sanctuary
12685 E C Ave.
Augusta, MI 49012

Michigan is home to ten species of turtles, each with unique characteristics. In this workshop, we will delve into the captivating realm of turtles while learning watercolor painting techniques. Participants will be able to learn from a KBS graduate student who observes live turtles and use their observations of color, shape, and texture to create their watercolor turtle paintings.

Presenter Bio: Meet Ayley Shortridge, a Science Education Fellow and Ph.D. candidate studying freshwater turtle ecology. In this session, Ayley combines her love for art and science to take us on a journey into the world of turtle ecology. You might even have a favorite turtle by the end - Ayley's is the common snapping turtle!

All the materials required for the class will be provided, including paintbrushes, watercolor paints, paint pellets, and watercolor paper. The class will be held indoors and outdoors, so please wear comfortable clothing.
