𝐖𝐞𝐛3 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲: 𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐦 #5 - 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐬 𝐌𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦 There are 2 very important things that blockchain promises - 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲. But how does blockchain do so? Via consensus mechanisms. A consensus mechanism is a method which is used to achieve trust, and security across a decentralized network. The word consensus itself means masses agreeing on something. In crypto terms, these masses are usually 𝐧𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐬 or 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬 that help validate a crypto transaction. But what do these nodes agree on? Well, they agree on a particular ledger, a record-keeping system, or a database by validating it and verifying it to be accurate. Currently, there are roughly 8 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦𝐬. But 2 of them are most popular. They are: 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐟-𝐨𝐟-𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 (𝐏𝐨𝐖) - used by blockchains like Bitcoin 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐟-𝐨𝐟-𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤 (𝐏𝐨𝐒) - used by blockchains like Ethereum Which consensus mechanism do you think is the most efficient? Devs, is your favourite crypto project vulnerable? ‼️ Learn about Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks in Solidity in our latest article: https://lnkd.in/dxKkT4ey A Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack is all about causing trouble without stealing money directly. In such an attack, the attackers disrupt the normal functioning of a contract by draining its resources. It can lead to significant losses and a security consultant hired for recovery can easily charge between $5,000 and $20,000. Thus, DoS attacks can be quite expensive. Read the article to learn how you can mitigate them.

Devs, blockchain has NOT cracked it all. Remember these: - 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗔𝗢 𝗛𝗮𝗰𝗸 (𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟲) (over $60M worth of ETH stolen)  - 𝗟𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗳 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗶𝘁 (𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟬) (loss of over $25M worth of cryptocurrency),  - 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸 (𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟭) (theft of approx. $136M in cryptocurrencies). All these are the victims of “𝗥𝗲𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸”, which exploit a major loophole in smart contracts. It is important to understand what is a reentrancy attack and how to prevent it. Read our latest article for a detailed explanation of the reentrancy attack. (Link is in the first comment 👇)
