Lift the Ban on Rent Control Action Protesting Mass Evictions
Massive waves of unemployment caused by the coronavirus shelter-in-place orders have left millions of Illinoisans struggling to pay rent, with our elected leaders largely refusing to address the issue. This wave of unemployment has disproportionately affected our most vulnerable communities, and now economists are projecting a potential 45% increase in the homeless population across the country. We need to send our messages that developers must be regulated - evictions need to be blocked, rent should be canceled, and the ban on rent control must be lifted!
Join us on Sunday, May 31st, 2020 at 10am for a 24-hour occupation of downtown Chicago. We will take over a public location and set up a tent city, similar to what our electeds can expect to become common if action is not taken to prevent the wave of evictions. We are looking for volunteers to be safety marshals to enforce social distancing, to provide tents, to promote on social media, to lead chants, and to perform.
After you have filled out this form, you will be sent more details including health and safety guidelines. Please make sure you are willing to follow these guidelines if you participate!
