McDowell County Schools Family Survey Fall 2020
This plan will help MCS plan for the needs of our families for the coming school year.  Additionally, in August 2020, McDowell County Schools will be offering the option for families to enroll their children in our schools but with a 100% virtual (at home and working online) environment if they prefer.  Only one person per household who makes decisions about education for the children should answer. Please complete this survey by July 17, 2020 and ask your friends and neighbors with students in MCS to do the same.

During the 2020-2021 school year, we predict that our schools will at times be operating face to face and at other times virtually. It is also possible that, at times, public health officials only allow us to be open with a reduced number of people on campus. If this were the situation, for your family, which option below would work best? *
We recognize that for some families, sending their child to school on campus during the pandemic is a serious health concern. MCS will follow the Governor's orders and state and local Board of Education expectations about when and how to have our campuses open. Would your family prefer to begin the school year in a 100% online situation even if our campuses are open? *
In 2020-21, MCS schools will deliver online instruction using Google Classroom, Canvas, Flipgrid, Nearpod, Seesaw, Edpuzzle, Thinglink,  and WeVideo.  What is your level of comfort with learning and using online tools like these to support your student? *
Very uncomfortable
Very confident
In the spring of 2020, the level of expectation and accountability for students doing classes online was low due to the newness of the situation and the requirement by the State Board of Education that schools not assign grades.  However, for 2020-2021 this will not be the case.  Families will be expected to require their children to engage with online instruction daily and submit work regularly. What types of supports would you need from MCS to be successful with online learning for your child? *
