The primary objective of this program is to expose undergrad students from under-represented and under-served populations to cardiovascular research at UofL. The program is supported by an NIH Short-Term Training Grant from the National Heart Blood and Lung Institute. Students are recruited from KY universities and colleges, as well as others attending schools outside of Kentucky. At least eight summer research fellowships will be awarded each year. The proliferation of reference quality genome assemblies within any single species has necessitated the need for pangenome analyses. Such analyses remove reference-bias and elucidate biological signals at a more comprehensive population scale. The EPSCoR/IDeA Coalition and Foundation have announced open registration for their 2022 Annual Meeting to take place virtually, March 1, 12 noon to 5:30 pm. NIH Common Fund Data Ecosystem Virtual Hackathon
NIH CFDE’s online hackathon on NIH Common Fund data sets will be held Feb 21-25. The hackathon schedule has both synchronous and asynchronous work, with concentrated hackathon sessions on specific data sets. Participants can attend whichever hackathon sessions they are interested in. NIH NLM Investigating Accurate & Equitable Representation in PubMed Search Results Virtual Codeathon
The NIH National Library of Medicine (NLM) wants to ensure that results retrieved using the PubMed search “Best Match” ranking algorithm provide access to citations of all relevant literature. To this end, NLM is hosting a virtual codeathon, Investigating Accurate and Equitable Representation in PubMed Search Results on May 23-26. Join the 14-Day Writing Challenge and see how group accountability, tracking your time, and daily writing (in the traditional sense or otherwise) can improve your overall productivity. Write for at least 30 minutes every day, Monday through Friday, for two weeks – any scholarly activity ranging from the spark of a new idea to a completed project (article, grant proposal, exhibit, book chapter, etc.). The National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities will host the Health Disparities Research Institute (HDRI), Aug 15-19. HDRI aims to support the research career development of promising early-career minority health and health disparities research scientists and to stimulate research in disciplines supported by health disparities science.
Applications will only be accepted from scientists who meet NIH’s Early Stage Investigator (ESI) eligibility criteria. All applications must be submitted via the HDRI online application system no later than 5 pm ET on March 14.
The NIH Undergrad Scholarship Program (UGSP) will pay up to $20,000 per academic year in tuition, educational expenses, and reasonable living expenses to scholarship recipients. Scholarships are awarded for 1 year, and can be renewed up to 4 years. Apply by March 17. More/apply
