They are words that ring true in the hearts and minds of agriculturalists both young and old. That is because we all hold an inborn fondness for the land, for our animals and for the way of life we all love. Oklahoma Farm Bureau members know it is not always easy making a living in agriculture, but together, we work to help our rural way of life prosper. Farm Bureau members know doing what you love is not always easy, but it is always worth the effort, come trials or triumphs.

BELIEVE Oklahoma FFA Convention

Endowment Campaign

Dear Friends of Oklahoma FFA, We all know the one constant in life is change! And for most, change creates new challenges. At the Oklahoma FFA Foundation our job is to turn today’s challenge into tomorrow’s progress for Oklahoma FFA members. This creates exciting opportunities for all of us who are or have ever been a part of the Oklahoma FFA. It is a well-known fact that the Oklahoma State FFA Convention is one of the very best in the nation. It is the largest annual convention of any kind held in our state bringing approximately 14,000 members and guests into the convention arena. Our convention has evolved through time and becomes bigger and better with each passing year! Oklahoma FFA advisors, members and convention guests have always attended our state FFA convention with no admission fee. The Oklahoma FFA chapters pay just $50 per chapter to the Oklahoma FFA Association as a “convention registration” and in turn, bring limitless attendees. This allows members and their supporters from all walks of life to experience the convention with their chapter and have equitable access and opportunities to grow. However, that nominal fee does not begin to scratch the surface of convention production costs. As a step toward bridging the cost gap, Oklahoma State FFA Association staff and the Foundation began the Chapter Trust Program in 1990 as an eternal funding mechanism to pay for growing convention expenses. The goal was to keep the convention a free admission event. Since that time, individual chapters have continually invested in themselves by contributing to the trust program. In 2019, the Chapter Trust fund reached $1,000,000 which will produce approximately $50,000 in interest each year. This covers about one third of recurring production costs annually. Through annual sponsorship requests, the Oklahoma FFA Foundation works tirelessly to fund the remaining costs.

Campaign Goal: $3,000,000 by Convention 2021 The campaign supports: Rent Hotel Rooms Security Video Stage 5

Lights and Sound Chorus Expenses State Officer Experience Convention Staff Stipends

Add to this today’s biggest convention challenge: Planned repurposing of the Cox Convention Center, what we have known as our convention’s home for nearly 40 years, will make a move in the very near future a reality. We anticipate significant cost increases to accompany a venue change. You can quickly see our needs will continue to outpace the Chapters’ decades of self-support and the gracious support of our current investors. While discussing this scenario with fellow Foundation board member, Wes Watkins, one of Oklahoma’s most beloved US senators, he had an idea – let’s expand the endowment that the chapters started so many years ago. Hence, the “I BELIEVE” campaign was born with a goal of $3 million by the 2021 state convention. Much like the goal Wes set to become a State FFA Officer while attending his first state FFA convention as a ninth grader. He came from a family who could have never afforded to send him to convention if there were a fee to attend. Wes will tell you that without the opportunity to experience that first convention, and subsequently set that first goal, he would have never achieved all he did in his life. Building on the investment Oklahoma chapters have already made, Wes and his wife Lou started the I Believe campaign with a planned estate gift. Their gift laid a modern foundation ensuring generations to come have the same life altering experience at the best State FFA Convention in the country. The I Believe campaign allows anyone who believes in premier leadership, personal growth and career success to assist in securing the Oklahoma FFA State Convention’s future. Find your place and the best avenue to show how you BELIEVE in the FUTURE of Oklahoma FFA!

A Message from the Board Chairman Oklahoma FFA Friends and Supporters, Greetings from the Oklahoma FFA Foundation Board of Directors! We hope 2019 was a productive year for all of our incredible investors. We know it was for FFA advisors and members statewide due in no small part to the generous support outlined in the pages of this Annual Report. Without question launching the I Believe Campaign was the Foundations largest project in 2019. The Campaign’s goal and purpose is to raise a minimum of $2,000,000.00 over 3 years through private investment as an endowment to combat the ever-rising cost of production at the annual Oklahoma FFA Convention. The fund is meant to compliment FFA Chapter Trust funds which are raised and given by local chapters all over the state. As of 2019, the Oklahoma FFA Chapter Trust has surpassed the $1,000,000.00 mark and continues to grow. At the writing of this letter, we have just completed the inaugural I Believe Gala. This flagship fundraising event was nurtured to life by former Executive Director Holly Blakey and a committee of former Oklahoma FFA members. Simply put the Gala exceeded every expectation and plans are already being made for next year! Looking forward to the next year brings new challenges, none more pressing than finding a suitable replacement for Holly in the roll of Foundation Executive Director. Late in 2019 Holly accepted an offer to apply her skills in another roll. We honored her time with the Foundation at the Gala and wished her future luck. The spring of 2020 will be busy identifying the perfect person to take on the leadership role. We look forward to sharing the results of that search with you in the coming months. As you review our Annual Report, remember that the donor dollars and volunteerism represented therein play an integral role of support to the nationally-elite Oklahoma FFA Association. Thank you to our investors, volunteers and supporters. We look forward to productive cooperation in 2020! Brett Ramsey Blue and Gold Sausage Co. Oklahoma FFA Foundation Chair 10
