At PEAK Physiotherapy Limited, we have a Specialist Dance Physiotherapist (Sarah Joice) who is herself classically trained, with more than 40 years of practical dance experience to RAD Solo Seal standard. Sarah has worked in the arena of Dance Physiotherapy for over 20 years, providing assessment, screening and treatment to a wide range of dancers of all ages and standards, from professionals and dance scholars across the region, to those who simply love to dance for recreation.

As a renowned Dance Practitioner, Sarah has worked extensively with student and professional dancers alike, including audition screening at The Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds, and working with full-time dance students from Northern Ballet School (Manchester), Hammond (Chester), Elmhurst (Birmingham), Tring Park (Hertfordshire), LIPA (Liverpool), SLP (Leeds) and Company members from Northern Ballet Theatre, Phoenix Dance Company and Rambert.

In 1998, Sarah established the Physiotherapy Service for the Louise Browne Yorkshire Ballet Scholarship Centre in York (now York Dance Scholars) and worked there for many years at the auditions and weekly classes and also at their Regional Ballet Seminar at Horsforth, in Leeds.

Over more recent years, she has provided the physiotherapy services for the National Youth Dance Company (NYDC) when they are in residence in Yorkshire each year, and she also provides the physiotherapy service for the Academy at Northern Ballet in Leeds, where she works with the Associate, CAT and Graduate students.

We also offer our services to professional performers when touring to The Grand Theatre in Leeds and, over the years, our clients have included cast members from Ghost, Phantom of the Opera, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Dance til Dawn, Barnum, Last Tango, The Wedding Singer, Evita, Mamma Mia, Dreamboats and Petticoats, Cabaret, Calendar Girls, Benidorm and Tango Moderno, among others.

Alongside Sarah, we have a highly experienced team of Specialist MSK Physiotherapists at PEAK who also work with the many dancers that we see in our clinics each week. This enables us to offer a very flexible and high-quality level of service, across all of our various clinic locations in West Yorkshire.

We treat all manner of musculoskeletal injuries, including pre- and post-operative rehabilitation, and we are able to offer a wide variety of treatment techniques and options. These include hands-on soft tissue and joint mobilisation/release, exercise therapy (stretches, strengthening and conditioning/core control work), postural re-education and training in terms of dance alignment (including prophylactic work), muscle control and joint stability work, Pilates-based exercises, proprioceptive rehabilitation, acupuncture, hydrotherapy and other dance-specific rehabilitation involving drills and technique training and progression.

We are happy to accept private self-referrals as well as those from GPs/Consultants etc. Simply get in touch by phone or by e-mail and we will be able to arrange an appointment for an assessment with you. We do not currently run a waiting list so you should be able to arrange a session as soon as is mutually convenient. All sessions are on a 1:1 basis in a private consultation room. The initial assessment usually lasts around 45 minutes and follow-up treatments are usually 30 minutes per session. We have gym/studio facilities at certain clinic sites and also have access to regional hydrotherapy facilities where appropriate.

Our clinic locations and opening hours can be found on our website (http://www.peakphysiotherapy.com/clinic-locations/) and we are delighted to offer a 10% discount to all One Dance UK members. We are also registered with all the major insurance companies, including BUPA, AXA Health, Aviva and Vitality, as well as various reimbursement schemes, so you may be able to reclaim some or all of your treatment costs (according to the terms of your policy).

In addition to our face-to-face appointments, Sarah is able to provide online 'PhysioConnect' virtual appointments for consultations and follow up ‘treatment’ sessions, via a telehealth call or a secure video platform (which can also include FaceTime, Skype, What’s App).

We appreciate that we cannot offer any ‘hands-on’ element with these sessions, but we are still able to conduct a thorough assessment and diagnosis, offer comprehensive advice and education about the issue and provide an individually tailored home exercise/management programme that can be accessed via our online exercise software (Physitrack). This programme also enables the client to comment and monitor/record their progress, so we can keep an eye on how you are managing and address any issues you may have.

Our online initial assessment sessions are also 45 minutes, and, for self-paying clients, the cost is £40. Follow up sessions are 30 minutes and cost £30 per session. We also offer shorter sessions (20 minutes) if appropriate and the cost of these is £20. We run these virtual appointments quite flexibly throughout the week (currently Monday – Friday).

Some of the major private medical insurance companies have embraced this virtual option and agree to cover the costs of online sessions in the same way as if they were face-to-face. Therefore, if you do have an insurance policy with a particular company, I would suggest that you mention this at the time of booking, so we can advise whether the cost is likely to be covered or not.

You can book an appointment (virtual/F2F) by telephone (call our central reception team on 0113 2870926) or by e-mail (to info@peakphysiotherapy.com) – just mention that you are a dancer and ask to speak to Sarah (as the Dance Specialist Physio) for further advice and information.

We look forward to hearing from you.
