Email Discussion and Announcement Lists

Discussion Lists

The State Library hosts and manages the following lists for the Oregon library community.  Anyone may choose to subscribe to the following open, discussion lists.

Kids-lib
This electronic discussion list is sponsored by the Oregon Library Association's Children Services Division (CSD). CSD is a non-profit, educational and informational organization whose defining goal is to provide support and continuing education for Oregon's children's librarians and for support staff who work in children services. This list enhances communication for CSD members and other interested parties. Possible uses may include job announcements, meeting announcements, conference announcements, announcing training opportunities, gift offerings, resource sharing, and questions about children's services and library-related issues.

Libs-Or
This electronic discussion list is intended for sharing information about the Oregon library community. It is for library staff at public, school, academic, tribal, and volunteer libraries in Oregon.  Possible uses may include job announcements, meeting announcements, conference announcements, announcing training opportunities, gift offerings, resource sharing, and questions about library-related issues.  

Prior posts to the list can be viewed at the Libs-Or Archives and new subscribers should review the user guidelines which outline rules and etiquette for posting messages.

NWDigitalProjects
The Northwest Digital Projects email list is an open, un-moderated forum for communication about digital collection projects in the Pacific Northwest. Subscribers are encouraged to share information about projects, resources, training opportunities, and best practices.

OYAN
This electronic discussion list is sponsored by the Oregon Library Association's Oregon Young Adult Network (OYAN). OYAN is a non-profit, educational and informational organization whose goals are to advocate for excellence in library services for young adults, to take a proactive role in providing library services to teens, and to provide a network of communication among librarians and support staff who work with teens. This mailing list enhances communication on these issues for OYAN members and other interested parties. Possible uses may include job announcements, meeting announcements, conference announcements, announcing training opportunities, gift offerings, resource sharing, and questions about teen services and library-related issues.

Announcement Lists

The following closed lists are restricted to subscribers as added by Library Support and Development staff (except for Answerland and OSLIST, see below). If you believe you should be subscribed (or unsubscribed) from any of the lists below, please contact our Library Support Consulting Assistant at 503-378-2525.
 
Answerland
This email discussion list is the main communication channel for Answerland, Oregon's statewide reference service. Through this list the Coordinator sends out updates about software, scheduling, etc. as well as calls to help answer questions. Answerland staff are encouraged to subscribe.
 
AL-Directors is a closed list for academic library directors only. It is a vehicle for the State Library to send official announcements such as grant program announcements, grant applications, and deadline reminders. Although directors cannot post or reply to the list, they may reply directly to the sender.
 
The list archives permit subscribers access to past announcements, although attachments are not archived.
 
The library district directors list is a vehicle for current public library directors of library districts to exchange information and discuss common issues. Only current public library directors of library districts will be allowed to join this list. 

Current subscribers can view the libdistrict-directors archives with their email address and password.
 
OR-PLDirectors
The Oregon Public Library Directors list is a vehicle for current public library directors to exchange information and discuss common issues. Only current public library directors will be allowed to join this list. 

Current subscribers can view the OR-PLDirectors Archives with their email address and password.
 
This list is used by the State Library to communicate essential information about the Oregon Summer Reading Program (SRP) for all ages at public libraries. Membership is limited to one person per library to ensure every library receives the most important summer reading information, and that the information is going to the right person at each library. If you don't know who from your library is subscribed to this list, please ask your library director first. If your library director doesn't know, then contact the list administrator.

OSLIST
This announcment list is used to send information to school library personnel about the Oregon School Library Information System (OSLIS) and the K-12 statewide databases. Oregon school library personnel, and educators who are active OSLIS users, are encouraged to subscribe.
 
Archived messages are available on the OSLIS website in the support section. 
 
PL-Directors
PL-Directors is a closed list for public library directors only. It is a vehicle for the State Library to send official announcements such as grant program announcements, grant applications, and deadline reminders. Although directors cannot post or reply to the list, they may reply directly to the sender.
 
The list archives permit subscribers access to past announcements, although attachments are not archived.
 
R2R-OR
This closed list is for public library directors and key contact staff for the Ready to Read Grant. The grant administrator will send out information regarding Ready to Read through this list. Directors and key contacts can use this list to share information, ask questions, and exchange project ideas regarding the Ready to Read Grant.

A weekly e-newsletter covering how-to technology and communication tips. While not written specifically for library staff, the State Library regularly receives positive feedback about this service. Tech-Talk is emailed weekly to the Libs-Or mailing list (relatively high-traffic); alternatively, you can subscribe to the TechTalk mailing list to receive just the e-newsletter each week. Please note that due to our licensing agreement, we request that you do not forward individual newsletters to colleagues, etc. Instead, encourage them to subscribe directly.
  
TL-Directors
TL-Directors is a closed list for tribal library directors only. It is a vehicle for the Oregon State Library to send official announcements such as grant program announcements, grant applications and deadline reminders.
