LD 489 Language: The people of the State have the right to a clean and healthy environment and to the preservation of the natural, cultural and healthful qualities of the environment. The State may not infringe upon these rights. The State shall conserve, protect and maintain the State’s natural resources, including, but not limited to, its air, water, land and ecosystems for the benefit of all the people, including generations yet to come.

The following letter, including your digital signature, will be sent to each representative in the Maine Legislature:

Dear Representatives of the Maine State Legislature,

As young residents of Maine, we are writing this letter to urge you to protect our future by voting in favor of the Pine Tree Amendment.  As young people we have long lives ahead of us, and we are painfully aware of the changes on the horizon. In order to secure our own future and that of generations to come, we must all strive to protect the land, air, and water around us.

Maine is a beautiful state, one that we all love, and one that we wish to see preserved for generations to come. We live in a time of global environmental change. Maine is changing too, as new residents arrive while the climate and Gulf of Maine shift in ways that are hard to predict.

A healthy future is possible, but we need your help to achieve it. The Pine Tree Amendment gives us a chance to conserve, protect and maintain the state’s natural resources to ensure that Maine remains the place we all want it to be. With this amendment we can make certain that as Maine develops and grows we protect the environment, and preserve what is vital for Maine’s people and wildlife to thrive.

We ask that you vote yes on the Pine Tree Amendment and give everyone, including generations to come, the ability to enjoy the many natural resources that Maine has to offer.
