•The episode starts with this. TOMO guesses gymnastics, which is incorrect. MAMI says that she was close. TOMO goes, "What do you mean by 'close'?" HARU says that if it had been gymnastics, then they probably would have said that it uses equipment. TOMO goes, "So it's an Olympic sport that doesn't use equipment?" and then guesses rhythmic gymnastics. HARU says that that's not it either. Ono says that they can give her one more chance to answer correctly and let her ask one more question, which is dubbed the "Final SCAN." TOMO says that she has no idea what it could be, and she's so clueless that she has no idea what question to ask. HARU laughs at this. Ono says that she did ask some good questions previously and the others agree. HARU says that she did narrow it down quite a bit. TOMO thinks for a second before going "Ah, does it need a lot of time to do?" There's a pause before RINA goes, "Aah, it doesn't!" and that compared to some of the really long competitions, she'd say no. TOMO laughs and goes, "Wait a minute! I had been thinking I had gotten it, too!" and the others laugh as well. They agree that it is difficult to guess. TOMO gives "short-distance race" as her final answer, which is incorrect. The others say that that answer does make sense. The correct answer is revealed and TOMO goes, "Ahh!!" really loudly and wails. The correct answer is judo. TOMO again says that that was difficult. MAMI says that there's a delicate balance between simply answering yes or no to a question. With judo, you have to wear a judogi and obi, but is that considered "equipment"? TOMO agrees and in the sense that a racket is needed in tennis, equipment like that is not needed in judo.

•Next is MAMI. She holds up her subject and the others go, "Ahh." MAMI asks if it's an Olympic sport. They answer that it is. She thinks about what her next question should be and says that it is difficult to come up with one, and that they'll probably all end up asking the same questions. They say that it's okay. MAMI then asks, like TOMO, if equipment is used in it. They say yes. MAMI's lastly asks if anyone among them have played this sport before. They say yes. MAMI pauses before going, "Ehh? Ah...! Oh...! ...eh?!" She goes over the questions asked and then keeps thinking about what it could be. She then says that she has it narrowed down to three options. The others say that that's impressive. MAMI finally guesses volleyball, which is incorrect. They let her choose the "Final SCAN." MAMI asks if the equipment needed is a ball. They say no, and that that was a good question. She guesses high jump, which is incorrect. The correct answer is badminton. MAMI goes, "Okay, I get it." The others laugh and RINA says she's so calm about it.

•Next up is RINA. She first asks if it's an indoor sport. They say yes. She then asks if it requires a lot of people. HARU is the only one that answers and says no. She's confused and tries to confirm that it is a no. They agree that if asked if it requires a lot of people, the answer is no. RINA's last question is if take a long time to play. There's a pause before the others go, "Hmm..." They say that it's not short, so they'll have to say yes to it taking a long time. HARU says that she thinks it's been narrowed down quite a bit. RINA takes a long time trying to think of what it could be. TOMO reminds her that she will get to answer one more question if she gets it wrong. RINA guesses basketball, which is incorrect. Ono says that he thinks RINA could get it in one more question, depending on the question asked. RINA then asks if it was a club activity in school. They say yes. MAMI says that it's been narrowed down quite a bit. RINA guesses ping-pong. There's a pause, which makes her go, "Oh, is that wrong?", but the "ding-dong" sound plays right after, indicating that she was correct. She says that that was difficult.

•Last up for the sports round is HARU. When she reveals the subject to the others, they all go, "Ahh..." dejectedly. HARU laughs at that. She asks if it's an Olympic sport. The others say yes but not right away. HARU mentions that they didn't say yes right away. TOMO says that she didn't know, and MAMI laughs and says didn't either. HARU asks if it's played indoors. They say yes. TOMO says that it depends. MAMI goes, "Then that means it is played indoors." Ono reminds them they only can answer yes or no. HARU asks if it requires a lot of people. They say yes. MAMI says that it's probably been narrowed down a lot, with it being an indoor sport that requires a lot of people. Ono says that there are still a lot of options that could fit, which MAMI does agree with. HARU says that she can't think of anything at all, and then answers volleyball. That is incorrect. She then tries to think of the last question to answer, but says that she can't think of one at all. They all laugh. HARU asks if the players are tall. They say yes. She guesses basketball, which is correct.

•They move on to the next category, which is about song titles from their album Kiss from the darkness. They say that that sounds hard. TOMO goes first again. She asks if HARU sings the song. They say yes. TOMO asks if the song's about love. They say no. TOMO then goes, "Hold on a second..." and HARU reminds her that the category is KFTD (which doesn't feature many songs about love). They all laugh. TOMO says that she might be the worst one at this category since they weren't able to tour for this album (pandemic and all). She says that she first needs to start by recalling the songs on the album, but she doesn't even know what song the album starts with. MAMI says that instead of trying to remember what songs are on that album, it'd be better to choose from the songs that it could be narrowed down to. TOMO says that wouldn't work since she has about 80 candidates in her head right now. She then asks if it has a fast BPM. They say no, and then clarify that it's not fast when it comes to SCANDAL songs. TOMO again laughs and wonders what songs are even on the album. The others laugh as well. RINA says that she'd love to show them to her [but can't]. MAMI says to narrow down the titles of their more recent songs. TOMO guesses "Ceramic Blue," which is incorrect. She then goes, "Eh, isn't that on KFTD?" RINA says that it is.

•For her last question, TOMO asks if they've performed it live recently. They say yes. TOMO says that that must mean that they played it on their most recent tour (Kanshasai vol.2). There's a pause before she goes, "Eh, is there such a song??" They laugh and say that there is. TOMO says that she also doesn't remember what the setlist was, and they also laugh at this. TOMO tries to think of what the setlist was and goes, "It started with 'Highlight no Naka de Bokura Zutto,' right?" The others laugh at how TOMO's trying to get to the answer this way. She lists the first 8 or songs correctly-ish, most of which are older songs that came before KFTD. She says that all of them listed so far aren't it. She gets through half of the setlist and up to "Ai ni Naranakatta no sa" (song #11) before MAMI goes, "Is it okay to let her ask one more question instead?" They all laugh at this. TOMO asks if it's in the last block of the setlist. They say no. TOMO goes, "Ehh?? So is it the next song [after 'Ai ni Naranakatta no sa']?? Huh? Maybe the encore?" There's a pause before RINA laughs and says that it's in the first block. TOMO goes, "Ehh?? It is??" HARU says that TOMO had even said it. TOMO starts going over the first songs again. She lists the first 3 songs but forgets what came after "STANDARD." RINA tries reminding her, and TOMO says "Saishuuheiki[, Kimi]." She then slowly goes, "Sai..shuu...hei...ki...??", which is the correct answer. They all laugh hard. TOMO goes, "That's from KFTD?" They say yes. She says she thought that song was released earlier than that.

•Next up is MAMI. She goes, "I might guess it right? 'Saishuu'...It's not 'Saishuuheiki,'" and laughs while the *bzzt* buzzer sound plays. The others laugh and say that's not it. She says she hasn't even drawn her subject yet. She says she also doesn't know what song KFTD starts with, and then asks if they've played the song recently. They say no. She says if it's a song she wrote the lyrics and music for. They say no. HARU says that was a good question. MAMI again questions what song KFTD starts with and they all laugh again. TOMO says that they likely would have known the album better if they had been able to hold the tour for it. MAMI asks if the song falls under the "intense" category of SCANDAL songs. They say no. She again tries recalling what songs could be on the album and mentions that if "Saishuuheiki, Kimi" is on it, then it must mean that "A.M.D.K.J." is also from that time. HARU quietly says something like, "Oh, yeah, that song is from that time," sounding like she had forgotten about that. MAMI then tries guessing which year the album came out and thinks it's 2020, which RINA confirms. MAMI says that means that songs like "eternal," "Ivory," and "one more time" are not on KFTD. With that being the case, she tries to narrow down what the likely candidates are. She says that "Ceramic Blue" is not a candidate (since the lyrics & music are written by MAMI). RINA goes, "You can do it!" MAMI laughs and says, "I can?" RINA says yes, and that she's getting pretty close to the answer.

•MAMI then says that she's trying to recall their KFTD livestream concert. The others say that's a good idea. HARU says that was a really nerve-racking day. MAMI says that all she remembers is that it was nerve-racking. HARU reminds MAMI that this song isn't written by her. MAMI says she gets that, but she's unsure of which songs that fit the bill are from the KFTD era. She says that since the album came out before the pandemic started, "Living in the city" is not part of it (which is true--it's actually on MIRROR). She then goes, "'Laundry Laundry' was on MIRROR, right?" No one says anything, which makes MAMI make a pouting noise and she laughs. The others start laughing at that noise. Ono tells her to say an answer. MAMI goes, "I don't know what it is!" He and RINA say to just say something. There's a pause before MAMI says to wait a minute. They all laugh. RINA says to just let the feeling of getting it wrong go and just go for it. HARU and TOMO agree, and HARU reminds MAMI that she has another question she could ask after. MAMI says that she really doesn't know what it could be, and then finally answers "LOVE," which is incorrect (lol that's from YELLOW, released in 2016). MAMI's last question is if RINA wrote the song. They say no. MAMI says she figured that was the case, which they all laugh at. She says that that means either HARU or TOMO wrote the song, but she still doesn't remember what other songs on KFTD. She goes, "I really don't know! I'm suffering!" They all laugh hard at this. Ono says to just say an answer. MAMI says that she really can't recall any of the song titles. RINA says that she's so close. TOMO says that there was something she had been mistaken about earlier. MAMI says that she thinks she knows now, and answers "Laundry Laundry," which is correct. She says she was sweating. HARU says that MAMI had said the correct answer earlier. TOMO says that her song on MIRROR is "Ai no Shoutai." MAMI says that she had a feeling that song was more recent. Ono says that that round was super entertaining. MAMI says that it was like time stopped when she had first mentioned "Laundry Laundry." The others laugh and say it was.

•After the band eats some Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt, the episode closes with comments from SCANDAL after the finale of their Kanshasai vol.2 tour. HARU says that a lot of happenings occured that day, that she felt all sorts of emotions during this 15th anniversary of their major debut, and that she really felt the strength of the four of them. RINA says that she felt that because the four of them are together that they're able to put on shows like that. TOMO says that she felt their bonds with the audience, and that it was a really great night.

The year-end and New Year holidays are very busy! What goes on behind the scenes for a part-time miko (shrine maiden)?

Season 2, Episode 31 blog

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 8StBzff

HARUNA: We're going to be reading messages about part-time jobs sent in to commemorate the release of Highlight no Naka de Bokura Zutto! We've received many stories about them.

RINA: It seems that today might be the last time we're doing this segment.

HARUNA: The segment was to commemorate the release, after all.

RINA: It was a really good segment. I wonder what kind of messages we'll get today.

NAMI

When I was a college student, I had four different part-time jobs. I was always working three at a time, but they were all interesting. Among them, I was impressed by the miko job at the shrine in front of my house. My grandfather was a community committee member and served as a district officer, so I started out as a part of his assistance. As a result, I started working at the shrine from high school and continued for six years until I graduated from college.

Surprisingly, there was a variety of work throughout the year, and of course the busiest time was the year-end and New Year's holidays. On New Year's Eve, I go to work at 23:00 and return home around 2:00 over the New Year. I was close to home, so I went to work at 7:00 again that day (January 1). I was sleepy and my miko costume was freezing because of all the cold air coming in. I don't know how many body warmers I had stuck here and there... And then I continued to work until about January 6. I don't remember taking much time to relax during New Year's Day... I thought I would like to count down the days while watching Downtown no Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende!! and Kohaku Uta Gassen.

I also played the shinobue flute to lead an entrance at a wedding, played the shinobue flute at seasonal festivals, handed out sweets to children at Shichigosan, threw beans at Setsubun, performed the miko dance at a festival in a country town on business, and so on. I also learned the unique use of language and colorful manners.

I felt comfortable with the priests and priestesses (a position below the chief priest), who were like grandfathers to me. I made a good friend at that part-time job, and we are still good friends to this day. We are still good friends and I always go see him when I go back to my hometown.

HARUNA: A part-time job as a miko, huhー.

MAMI: There were a lot of technical terms.

TOMOMI: The flute is also played by part-time workers, huh.

HARUNA: Must be hard to practice.

TOMOMI: Miko jobs were really popular on Try-Yaru Week.

HARUNA: There was such a thing??

TOMOMI: There was. Everyone wanted to wear miko costumes. It was very popular. There were only two slots available.

RINA: I didn't know there were part-time jobs like that.

MAMI: It's very hectic during events.

HARUNA: They say you have to work consecutive days during New Year's.

TOMOMI: But I thought it would be cold.

RINA: Of course it is cold. I guess they are getting more and more work now, like dealing with visitors from abroad.

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 On3854d

•The episode starts with this.

•MAMI reads the next message from a listener who say they're a freelancer who has worked at various part-time jobs, and has found that restaurants are the best place for them. They would always be targeted by a mean old lady due to their short stature and appearance. She'd watch them work and would get angry if they did anything she didn't like, regardless of whether they made a mistake or not, and would give them a warning. There was a time when they were afraid to work part-time because the same thing happened to them every place they worked at. HARU goes, "I totally get that!" TOMO asks if she's experienced that before. HARU says yes, and that she's experienced it once before. She says that it also might have been due to her short stature. TOMO laughs and goes, "Really?" HARU says she isn't sure, and then explains how when she was in high school, there was a senior worker who was a college student and was kind of a jerk and was always unpleasant. They kept telling HARU to end her shift early, and would bring their college friends with them to the front of HARU's high school for some reason. The others are confused and TOMO asks for what reason they did this. HARU says she doesn't know. MAMI asks if this person was a man. HARU says that it was actually a woman and that she'd say things like she was in front of the high school earlier today with some guys in a car. RINA says that it sounds like she was trying to show off, being older and all. HARU says that she was quite a bit younger, being a first-year high schooler (10th grade, between the ages of 14-15), and was the youngest one working there. She doesn't recalled being pampered, but she guesses she kind of didn't like it. MAMI says that with more experiences it could get easier to find somewhere to work that fits yourself better.

•RINA reads the next message from a listener in Hong Kong who says that they're currently working part-time as a server in a restaurant but quit last week (lol how is that 'currently,' then?). They say that the reason is why they can't get along with people and have a hard time getting along with them, but changing jobs is what worries them the most. They say that they have found a new job and hope they'll be able to get along well with their co-workers. TOMO says that interpersonal relationships really are the most important thing, which the others agree with. MAMI says that it's like wherever you go, you're given a test when confronted with people you don't like. She says that if you do your best to interact with people you're not comfortable with, you may find that they're a lot nicer than you thought they were. Or you may decide that it's too much for you and go to a different place, which is also a good decision. But there are probably people you won't like whenever you go.

•HARU reads the next message from a listener who works part-time at Mos Burger. They write so much about their job that I'm not going to translate it all lol. The gist of it is that they and their co-workers have become a well-oiled machine that can churn out orders in about 10 minutes, despite orders coming in every minute for almost 23 hours nonstop, and the workers all get along well. They also mention that it's very difficult to manage frying items, such as their fish burgers, all in one fryer with limited space. RINA laughs that she can tell they're good at their job by the way they wrote that, and MAMI says that you can tell they have fun at their job. They all agree. HARU says that the story she told about her own work experience earlier took place at a Mos Burger. They don't really have any pre-made food so it was a lot of work, and the store she worked at had a drive-thru, which would get really crowded at lunch time. She says it was also really hot there in the summer. RINA says that as you do your job, you develop techniques and can do more and more things just by intuition. She also says that she always orders fish burgers and will think of the listener when she eats the burgers in the future. HARU says that she couldn't remember how to make the salads there for the life of her. The others laugh and TOMO asks if it's difficult to do. HARU laughs and says that thinking back on it now, it wasn't difficult at all, but she probably didn't have the will to learn. The others laugh and MAMI says that's cute.

•HARU reads the next message from a listener who says they had several students during three of their years of college, but the one they remember most was a girl they were in charge of for those three years. HARU goes, "So that means..." There's a pause before RINA whispers, "...they're a teacher?" There's another pause before they all go, "Hey! Teacher!" The listener basically says that they worked as a tutor, and that they really enjoyed their time with that girl, who became like a little sister to them. They say that they didn't end up actually becoming a teacher. TOMO goes, "Ah, we're rescinding that ['Hey! Teacher']!", which they all laugh at. HARU finishes reading the rest of the sentence, in which the listener says the experience of meeting children who called them a teacher was priceless. TOMO says that was a wonderful story. MAMI wonders if tutoring part-time was part of their major. HARU says that there a lot of people who do that. HARU says that it's impressive to teach people how to study, and that it seems very difficult to teach things to others. They close out the segment by saying thanks to everyone who sent in their stories.

•Before they close out the episode, there's one more message that TOMO reads from a listener who attended KAKOFES back in September. They basically tell them about their day and excursion to Kakogawa, and mention that they brought along their child who wanted to see a friend who lives close to Kakogawa. The listener dropped their kid off at the friend's while they went to the festival. They say it was a very memorable day for both of them. TOMO says she's happy to hear all that. The band says that it really seems like KAKOFES was very memorable for all of their fans that attended.

A look back at "Kanshasai vol.2" that ended without a hitch! Right after the tour ended, HARUNA said about the fans' voices, "You can feel the passion in them!"

Season 2, Episode 32 blog

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 4SBpqo6

HARUNA: So, this week...
We're giving thanks for the "Kanshaisai (Giving Thanks) vol.2" tour for the 15th anniversary of our debut!

TOMOMI: "Giving thanks" for "Kanshaisai."

HARUNA: This is a recap of our tour held in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka! October 8 in Osaka, October 9 in Nagoya, and the final show on October 22 in Tokyo. Are there any "thanks" or "introspections" for each member?? We'll look back and see if there are any introspections...and discoveries. Before we begin, the staff has some material they would like us to listen to...

TOMOMI: What is it?

HARUNA: Yeah, we're curious, so let's get right to listening to it.

*Recorded material (*Fans interviewed by director Kawai-chan after the Tokyo concert)

I started listening to SCANDAL after a friend recommended them to me in Hokkaido during the pandemic. The concert was great. You guys always give me energy. I hope you continue to take care of your health and enjoy your activities! I'll also go to your concerts! Thank you very much for today!"

TOMOMI: So kind!!

HARUNA: Thanks as well.

My friend from elementary school invited me to come. I was able to listen to these nostalgic songs, and I'm glad that we could spend the 15th anniversary of your debut together. I hope to be able to go to many more concerts in the future. Please do your best and stay close to each other. I'm rooting for you!

My older brother liked SCANDAL at first. He went to Osaka by himself, and it was the song he was playing that made me like the band a little bit more, and that's how I got hooked on them. I gradually fell in love with the band when I was in high school, and here I am today. I was excited from the first song, and it was great to hear some of the old songs that aren't played often live. I regret not becoming a fan from the start. Congratulations on your 15th anniversary. I've only been a fan for a bit, but I'll always support you, so keep up the good work!

My daughter and son have been fans for a long time, so I knew about two thirds of the songs played at today's concert. This was my first time at a concert itself. I knew the songs from the beginning and had done some preliminary study, so I was excited and enjoyed the show. Congratulations on your 15th anniversary. It's been about 12 years since my daughter, son, and I have been fans. I had a great time and hope to come back.

All: Thank you so much!!

MAMI: You interviewed so many people...

TOMOMI: Everyone was so polite...

RINA: Kawai-chan was secretly interviewing them, wasn't she? Thank you!

HARUNA: I was wondering why she didn't come to us after it was over.

TOMOMI: Thank you.

RINA: The atmosphere at the concert was very real.

TOMOMI: It was very realistic.

RINA: It really, really was.

HARUNA: These were recorded right after the concert.

RINA: All of them were so articulate, all excited after the concert.

TOMOMI: They were so polite.

RINA: I'm happy.

MAMI: Everyone is really good at speaking.

HARUNA: It's because they were still so passionate right after...

RINA: There is a lot of passion.

•The episode starts with this.

•HARU says that they performed some songs that they haven't played in quite a while, but she thinks that they did a pretty good job of it. TOMO says that about half of them were those kinds of songs. HARU says that they used a lot of brainpower and energy, and she's glad that they worked hard. TOMO says that the fans seemed really pleased. HARU also mentions how fans who had attended the first performance in Osaka wrote messages to fans going to the remaining two performances to be careful since the setlist will sap your energy (as in the songs performed are so intense/high energy for the crowd), as well as things like the setlist was so insane that they can't even remember what happened. TOMO says that the setlist was honestly insane; they performed songs like "BEAUTeen!!", after all. She and HARU lists a few other songs they played, such as "Pin Heel Surfer," "Kagen no Tsuki," and "Namida yo Hikare." RINA says that they played "CANDY" and "Vision" for the first time live. HARU says that rehearsals were quite tough since there was a lot to remember for them, but it was fun performing those songs. The others agree.

•TOMO says that there are fans who remember the days [from when an older song was first released], so when the band plays a song they haven't in a while, those people may feel differently about it than they do at a regular concert. HARU says that as they mentioned in their MCs, the lyrics and performance of "Pin Heel Surfer" are more in tune with them now than when the song first came out. She felt as they were performing it that they fit the band really well now. She says that there are some songs that have grown as well. TOMO says that she didn't know before how good of a song "Namida yo Hikare" is, which makes the others laugh. They also agree that it's a good song. TOMO says she did like the song when it first came out, but she likes it even more now. HARU says that there are songs that feel totally different about now. TOMO says that some meanings have changed as the years have passed. HARU says that the significances of them have also changed, and that it makes her really glad they've continued to be a band. RINA says it made her really happy to see that they can now express any song from any era of theirs and do anything they want. MAMI says that it was all they could do to perform and sing the lyrics of songs back then, but now that they're making their own music, they've developed a pattern for the lyrics they write. Due to that, they are able to look at past songs objectively as if they--not other people--were the ones who had written them. They're able to understand the lyrics and sing them properly now. TOMO says that their lyrics back then were wacky, which makes the others laugh. MAMI says that they were like, "What are we even singing about??" back then, but now they kind of understand. It felt like those songs resonated more with the listeners than with the involved parties, and she felt that way again during this tour. Some people were crying during "Namida yo Hikare," which made her realize that the song really did resonate with fans. It made her emotional to see that on this tour.

•RINA says that one of the joys she's had is that they've had a lot of different ways of making music. There was a time when they were provided with music, a time when they co-wrote music, and a time when they started to write their own music, and when the latter started is how they've been making their music ever since. There was a time when bands had to make their own music to be recognized, but nowadays, if the quality of the music is high enough, it's considered to be good. Co-productions by various overseas artists have become popular among Japanese listeners as well. She says that she's felt the band had been able to create songs in a wonderful way for a long time, and it made her feel much lighter and feel that the timing was right for them to acknowledge all of themselves. HARU says that in the end it's all about people. A while ago it was important for them to compose their own music and build on that, but now that they've come this far, it doesn't matter so much. No matter what method they use to make music, what makes it a song of theirs is to simply have the four of them play and sing it. RINA says that she was moved by how it felt like they've made all of their songs their own.

•HARU says that it was a very short but intense tour. TOMO says that when they played the first show in Osaka, it already felt sacrilegious to have only three performances on the entire tour. The others immediately agree. TOMO continues that it was such a good tour that she wishes they had been able to tour the entire country on it. RINA says that they probably couldn't have done more than these three performances, though, and laughs. The others laugh as well. MAMI says while laughing that their heads, hearts, and bodies were at their max, after all. TOMO says she hopes they have another chance to do a Kanshasai tour, and RINA goes, "In five years, right?" They all laugh. HARU says that Kanshasai is like an anniversary tour of their debut (first one was held in 2018, the 10th anniversary of their debut). RINA says that it'd be really cool if they could keep doing this every five years. They say how the next one would be for the 20th anniversary. TOMO says that if they do do it again, they'll try their best to remember the songs that they'll play. HARU laughs and says that they'll have another five years worth of songs by then. TOMO says that their early days are becoming more and more distant past. The others agree and RINA laughs that they might not remember how to play "DOLL" at one point later. TOMO says that even if they forget, their hands will probably move on their own. HARU says that there are a handful of songs like that. MAMI says that fans have told them them this as well, but it's probably better that they release score books. The others agree and TOMO says that they haven't put out any in a while. MAMI laughs and says that if they did, the band would also be able to look at them and remember how to play the songs. TOMO says that it's also good for record keeping. They say that they'll consider releasing a score book next time. MAMI again says that it'll be for the band's benefit as well, and they all laugh at that.

•For the latter half of the episode, they talk about Meiji's Yan Yan snack and how 11/11 is Yan Yan Day (since sticks of Yan Yan look like 1s). There are questions and answers written on the sticks, and MAMI asks the others hers: "Do you know when Hanamatsuri is?" HARU goes, "March? No?" TOMO says she wants to try guessing it and guesses April. MAMI says that it is in April but she can't read what day it says it is on the stick, and then asks the staff if they can make it out. They guess it says the 9th (it's actually the 8th lol). RINA reads hers: "What day is June 4th?" TOMO guesses "Mushi no Hi" (Bug Day; and "mu" = six, "shi" = four). RINA says that that's really close. TOMO then guesses "Konchuu no Hi" (Insect Day). RINA says that it's "Mushiba [Yobo Day]" (Cavity Prevention Day; "mushiba" means "cavity" and also uses the kanji for bug = 虫). The others go, "Ahh!" HARU says that she can't read what hers says at all. She shows the others and they laugh, saying that they can't read it either. TOMO reads hers: "Do you know when Koshogatsu (Little New Year) is?" MAMI guesses April. RINA guesses January, which TOMO says is correct. TOMO then asks what day in January it is. MAMI guesses the 2nd. TOMO says that's not it. RINA guesses the 4th. TOMO says that's also not it, and says that it probably says it's on the 15th (probably because the print was messed up lol). HARU then goes, "I got it!" and starts reading what it says on her stick: "What is the name of the Tanabata Festival in Aomori City?" In the middle of them laughing, TOMO says Nebuta. MAMI then realizes that Hanamatsuri is actually on April 8th (she looked it up on her phone), which is also Buddha's birthday. TOMO says that these are really educational. They continue eating the snacks and HARU mentions that the Yan Yan she keeps at home are always eaten up by TOMO.

A feedback festival by fans for "Kanshaisai vol.2"!! Also, a lavish feast of Yan Yan!!

Season 2, Episode 33 blog

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 IKNKyDw

HARUNA: So, this week...continuing from last time,
We're giving thanks for the "Kanshaisai (Giving Thanks) vol.2" tour for the 15th anniversary of our debut!

MAMI: Ah! The script doesn't say "Kanshasai" but "Kansousai" (Feedback Festival), right?

HARUNA: Ah, that's right!

TOMOMI: It does!

HARUNA: Last time it was "Kanshasai," right?

Staff: Last time was Kanshasai, and this time is Kansousai.

RINA: So that's why it's "Kansousai."

TOMOMI: Kansousai!!

HARUNA: So, this was a Kansousai!
We'll look back on the tour that took place in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka!
Here is a summary of messages from those who came to Osaka on October 8, Nagoya on October 9, and Tokyo on October 22!

Ichikomen

Good evening, SCANDAL!

Thank you very much for your hard work on the Kanshasai tour! The afterglow has lasted for quite a while, but please let me send exactly what I feel...! haha

I'm a nursery school teacher, and it was a hard period for me physically and mentally with the sports day and the field trip...

All: Hey! Teacher!

Therefore! I spent my time motivated by the concert, and the concert gave me a lot of power to carry on with my daily life again! Thank you very much!

This is a very personal story... I discovered SCANDAL when I was 15 years old, and 15 years have passed. Basically, I have been going to concerts and supporting them by myself all the time. But in high school, I had a friend from a club who recommended songs to me and invited me to concerts and events. This girl was different from me, but we became lifelong friends through our club activities, and she was the friend who listened to me without denying me ever since then. After graduating, I stopped inviting her to things, but she knows that I like SCANDAL, and we still meet up regularly.

When I've looked at SCANDAL over the past few years, I feel like I want people to know more about these four awesome members! At that moment, I suddenly saw that girl's face, and I felt like I should talk to her for the first time in a while. When I invited her to the previous tour, she said she wanted to go! So we went together. She said to take her to this tour as well, so she went the Osaka performance with me!

I have fond memories of all the songs, but when the song "BEAUTeen!!" that I listened to in high school came on, we both looked at each other and said in unison that the songs played from "BEAUTeen!!" to "Taiyou to Kimi ga Egaku STORY" made us cry!

Both we and SCANDAL have lived through the same era with so many things going on, and the fact that we have grown up and are able to listen to SCANDAL's music again with the friend I spent time with back then was so emotional that it became an unforgettable memory.

That night, she listened to me talk about my love for SCANDAL, saying it was just as good as back then, and we talked about how my friend's relationship with her partner was just like the world view of "Ai ni Naranakatta no sa." Also, when she looked at Yaoyao's photo book [about SCANDAL] and said how nice it is to leave images that only exist now, I realized that it was our 15th anniversary since we met, so I went straight to a self-photo studio and made a reservation (haha). The next day we took our 15th anniversary photo and then went our own ways. Through this concert, I felt that the relationship with my friend became stronger again, and I felt very warm!

RINA: Wow, that's awesome~!

MAMI: True friends. How wonderful!

TOMOMI: I'm really happy...

HARUNA: It's just like a movie!

RINA: A coming-of-age movie!

HARUNA: They're affirming everything about themselves, too...

RINA: It feels like they're a true SCANDAL fan.

HARUNA: Self-photo studios are the best!

TOMOMI: So awesome! I want to see those pictures.

RINA: Yeah, I want to see them. I'm glad they enjoyed it.

HARUNA: Please come again with your friend to a concert of ours.

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 8owjKjQ

•The episode starts with this.

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener who attended the Nagoya performance and mentions songs that were performed that they have memories of. They say that the setlist reminded them that SCANDAL has always been a part of their life. TOMO and HARU are impressed at how many people say the setlist brings back memories for them. They say it's awesome that "LOVE SURVIVE" was the first song that the listener says they practiced in their light music club, and then laugh about how they said that they gave up on learning it and tried learning "Kagen no Tsuki" instead. MAMI says that it should be the opposite.

•MAMI reads the next message from a listener who also attended the Nagoya performance and says that they were the person in the fourth row who was super happy when HARU said they would play some old songs, and HARU had responded to that, "Someone's really happy!" They all laugh and HARU says that they were really happy. The listener also mentions that they met up with a colleague for dinner and then they went to the concert together. They typically hang out a lot and talk about stuff like how "BEAUTeen!!" really is the best song after all, singing along to "Taiyou to Kimi ga Egaku STORY" while driving, and watching the "Pin Heel Surfer" MV while drinking at home. They say it was a night that made them vow to continue to be a SCANDAL fan and cherish the friends they have by their side who bring them so much happiness. HARU laughs about how the listener knew they would be playing those aforementioned old songs before the band even did. MAMI says those songs are already really embedded in their life. RINA says that fans getting excited like that gets the band excited as well. MAMI says that they are able to surprisingly see the audiences' expressions easily from the stage.

•RINA reads the next message from a listener who has been a fan for 14 years and have never missed a tour since then, and says that Kanshasai vol.2 was very important for them since they're currently 6 months pregnant and won't be able to go to anymore concerts for a while. RINA says that there are so many fans like them these days, but it makes her really happy to see everyone continuing to listen to their music while moving ahead with their lives. HARU says she's glad they were able to come to a show right before their due date, and that SCANDAL is their prenatal care. The others laugh at this. TOMO says she has a friend who has a kid who, when they hear [SCANDAL? it seems like] songs they heard while in the womb, are "their songs." The band is surprised by that and says that's cute and that it makes them happy. RINA says that it makes her think that they have to keep working hard. HARU says that they have to keep hanging in there until the listener returns to attending their concerts. RINA says that it makes them wonder how they should go on with their own lives, but they do have to take good care of the band.

•HARU reads the next message from a listener who attended the Tokyo performance and also mentions stuff about being happy to hear songs live that they haven't in a while. They end their message with a PS where they say that they ask questions to the their lighting engineer every time they attend a concert. They know they must be tired after a concert, but they always answer any questions courteously and the listener learns a lot. They say that they'd like to take this opportunity to thank them. The band is surprised to hear the PS and wonder what kind of questions they ask, and also wonder if they plan to be a lighting engineer in the future. RINA says that their lighting staff really is first-class, after all. MAMI says that pretty much any artist who watches a SCANDAL concert praises their lighting. TOMO says that they're a very nice person. They say that they'll try asking them during BEST Xmas rehearsals. MAMI laughs that it's kind of amusing that they're finding out about this on the radio.

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener who attended both the Osaka and Tokyo performances with their wife and daughter. They say that they ate at the Hard Rock Cafe (by Universal Studios Japan) after the Osaka concert where Western music videos were playing on the monitors, but suddenly footage of "Shunkan Sentimental" from one of SCANDAL's concerts at Osaka-Jo Hall started playing. A staffer seemed to have played it just for them. They say they were really happy and that they'd like to take this opportunity to thank them. The band says that's awesome. TOMO says that they probably had on SCANDAL merch and that's how the staffer knew they were SCANDAL fans. They start wondering if the staffer started playing a DVD, or perhaps they played one of the illegal uploads on YouTube lol. MAMI says that RINA's dad loves Hard Rock Cafe. RINA laughs and says that maybe she'll invite him to go.

•MAMI reads the next message from a listener who also mentions that they were glad to hear some songs live that they never have before. They also mention that they've had "BEAUTeen!!" as their alarm for the past 11 years. Another thing they talk about is that the trouble the band ran into during "A.M.D.K.J." was actually good, and it was the most exciting rendition of the song ever. They end it by saying that fans welcome troubles like that. The band laughs at this. TOMO explains that there was some unknown sound that could be heard in the middle of the song. HARU says that they've never been able to figure out what that was. RINA says that there's a set that has electronic drum sounds in addition to her actual drum set, and she thinks it was a combination of those. TOMO says that their staff checked everything and found nothing, which is why they really don't know what caused it. MAMI says that it was enough to make their legs shake. They laugh about how they were all unsure of what to do. TOMO says that she's glad they did stop because their ears were hurting. They laugh and agree. TOMO says it was a bizarre phenomenon. MAMI says they could tell the fans were having a great time because after the trouble was over, they played the song one more time and everyone was really excited. TOMO says that she floated about 5 cm off the floor [since the fans were that intense].

•MAMI then mentions how the listener said they've had "BEAUTeen!!" as their alarm for the past 11 years. RINA says they probably can't wake up without it now. HARU goes, "Rather, wouldn't they have gotten so used to it and they can't wake up?" and they all laugh. MAMI says that everyone must really love "BEAUTeen!!" since it's come up in everyone's messages, and wonders if it's because there are a lot of people who became a fan during that era. The others think that's sure to be part of it. TOMO says that it's a very early song of theirs. MAMI says that the members were all about twenty somethings. HARU says that there were probably a lot of people who started listening to them during their "Shunkan Sentimental" and "Shoujo S" eras and then bought their albums, discovering "BEAUTeen!!" on them. TOMO goes, "Wait, wasn't that a B-side song?" The others say that it was. TOMO goes, "It was also on ENCORE SHOW? No..." HARU corrects her and says that it's on SCANDAL SHOW. They say thanks for loving this song for so long. MAMI says that the listener will probably have it as their alarm for the rest of their life. The others laugh. TOMO says that that's quite all right. MAMI says that if they don't change it now, then they'll probably never change it. RINA wonders if they were to change it, then what would they change it to. MAMI says she wonders as well. RINA says perhaps "A.M.D.K.J." and they all chuckle. MAMI says that it'll remind them of the trouble that happened. HARU says that it'll get them excited. MAMI says they'll get excited and be able to wake up. They had been giving out 20 Yan Yan to each listener whose message was read, and with 7 messages being read, they'll end up giving out a total of 140 Yan Yan. TOMO wonders if that'll be okay. The staff seems to reassure her, which makes her go, "Meiji's so awesome!"

What's the fine line between "fast" and "slow" responses from the other party?

Season 2, Episode 34 blog

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 YjiWZdl

HARUNA: This time we'll be doing a segment that we haven't done in almost a year...

TOMOMI: Really!?

HARUNA: It's been a while. "Catch up Kyoukai-sen Kyoukai" (Fine Line Association)!

RINA: It's my favorite segment.

TOMOMI: It doesn't feel like we haven't done it for a year, does it?

HARUNA: We haven't done it for almost a year. Now, let us open the 2023 meeting.

Hachimitsu Daisuki

When I met with childhood friend A the other day, childhood friend B told me that she had contacted A and said, "You haven't gotten a reply [from the listener]. It's late."

I thought to myself, "What? I replied right away that day." I looked back at my LINE messages and said, "I replied in about 30 minutes." A said, "No, that's too late."

Personally, on my days off, it takes me around 1 hour, which is what I'd consider fast. About 2-3 hours would be normal. About 5-6 hours would be slow.

On work days, it's fast if it's within 24 hours. About 2 days would be normal. Anything more than that feels like it's too late.

The other friends I'm in touch with on a regular basis tend to be at the same pace as me, so I was surprised that although we've been childhood friends since we were born, our sense of time in our lives is so different. I was wondering who is in the majority. How about you, SCANDAL?

I would like you to draw a fine line between what's fast and what's slow.

RINA: I see. I think it's different depending on the person.

MAMI: It depends on what the matter's about. Like, if you want an immediate reply, or if you have something to decide right now. At times like that, I think it's important to take 30 minutes to respond.

HARUNA: It also differs between work and private life.

TOMOMI: Let's go with private life.

MAMI: So let's say your plan is, "Where are you going for lunch in a week?'' Do you think 30 minutes is too late to reply?

RINA: I don't think so at all.

HARUNA: I don't think so.

MAMI: I don't think so either.

TOMOMI: I don't think 30 minutes is late at all.

MAMI: I don't think it's late even after a day.

RINA: I think it's totally fine if they ask the next day, "What do you think of this place?

MAMI: As long as it is decided by that day.

TOMOMI: If they say "I'll be there" two or three hours before the day of the event... I think it would still be okay.

RINA: It depends on the relationship.

TOMOMI: In terms of whether the reply is fast or slow...

RINA: If it's on the day of the event, it's slow.

TOMOMI: That's true.

MAMI: That's late.

HARUNA: There's also arrangements to be made.

RINA: If they're prompt enough that they've decided by the day before, I think it's totally fine.

HARUNA: You can decide on the location the day before.

TOMOMI: When you get a response really fast, you think, "That was fast," but you rarely think, "That was slow," right??

HARUNA: Not really.

MAMI: But basically, I think 30 minutes is fast.

TOMOMI: We happen to agree [with the listener], but it is possible that we're in the minority.

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 Z5FMTOi

•The episode starts with this.

•TOMO wonders how long it takes their program director Ono to reply. RINA immediately says that he probably takes a long time, which they all laugh at. Ono says that he replies back right away if it's on LINE. The band is surprised by this. He also says that the messages will accumulate otherwise. RINA says that he is a busy person. MAMI says that there are a lot of times when you happen to be looking at your phone when a LINE message comes through and you accidentally tap on the message, which it marks it as read, so you feel that you need to reply right away. HARU says that she doesn't think it's problem that it's marked as read right away, as long as you do respond at one point. MAMI says that you do feel a little concerned about it, though. RINA says that she gets it and says that if it's something about work, she can reply within a minute. HARU says that RINA is really fast at replying. RINA says she is, and that she can give an answer in about two seconds. They laugh at this. HARU says that RINA wants to decide on whatever it is right away. RINA says that regarding personal matters, however, she doesn't worry about that at all. Ono says that he doesn't get many messages from friends and wonders about staffer Kawai, who is younger. She seems to say that she's like RINA and doesn't worry about it.

•RINA says that there are some people who will send the same message again (because they didn't get a reply the first time) without worrying too much about it, and that it's fine if you're sending it to a friend when you want them to answer back right away. She says that she personally tries to reply quickly, but even when she feels that the person's not replying back fast enough, even though she wants a fast reply, she doesn't send the message again. TOMO says that it's hard to draw the fine line for this. HARU says that the four of them feel that replying back in 30 minutes is quick. RINA clarifies that's that's for them who are in their 30s. TOMO says that if the reply comes on the day you're supposed to meet up/etc., then it's too late. They also say that it's totally normal if the reply comes a few days later [after the first message]. HARU says that that's the same as what the listener thinks. RINA says there's nothing wrong there and they laugh. HARU says that you would be a little shocked if two people tell you otherwise, like the listener's friends. They again say that what the listener's opinions are on this are totally valid.

•Ono then says that the same listener has sent in another message, which TOMO reads. The listener says that in S2E30 episode during the "SCAN-Dare!?" segment (TOMO: "What segment is this, again?" - No one seems to remember), the band mentions BPM and how they'd consider songs of theirs to be fast/slow when it comes to SCANDAL songs. They ask what they think the fine line is between fast/slow songs, and which song do they think is right on that line. MAMI says that she has something in mind, and that their songs that are 180+ BPM are what she'd consider as fast. TOMO goes, "Wouldn't 170 be the fine line?" MAMI again says that she thinks it's 180. TOMO asks about ones that are 179. MAMI says that that's okay. TOMO asks if she'd consider them as just being normal. MAMI says that it is on the higher side. RINA says it is when it comes to SCANDAL songs. TOMO thinks that the song that'd be on that line is "LOVE SURVIVE." MAMI says that since making their own songs, she doesn't know anymore if LS is a fast song. HARU says that in those days, it was their fastest song yet. TOMO says that does feel fast and not slow, which is why she thinks it's on the line.

•MAMI says that she thinks the fine line for her when she writes songs is 180, which she considers to be fast. TOMO says that pretty much all of the songs she's written are on the slower side. MAMI wonders if none of TOMO's songs are over 100 BPM. TOMO says there is "Kan Biiru." MAMI says that about 90% of TOMO's songs are slow. TOMO says that she likes slower songs. RINA says that when playing the drums, she can easily do songs that are 190 BPM with a smile, which makes them all laugh. HARU asks what BPM "Line of sight" is. MAMI says it's 185. HARU then wonders about "A.M.D.K.J." MAMI says it's probably around 180. HARU says she agrees that 180 is where she thinks the line is. MAMI says that "Masterpiece" is around that same speed. RINA says that BPM depends on the number of notes in relation to the tempo, which the others agree with. MAMI says that the guitar phrases in "LOVE SURVIVE" are fast, which likely makes the entire song feel fast. They all agree that it's the song that's right on the fine line between what's a fast/slow SCANDAL song. They wonder what other fans think of this subject, and if they think LS is a fast song. RINA says that their fans do seem to like songs that are fast, after all. MAMI says that "Platform Syndrome" and "Fuzzy" are really fast songs.

•HARU goes, "What kind of segment is 'SCAN-Dare!?', again?" and chuckles. The other members don't seem to remember either. Ono also says that he can't remember, which makes the band laugh. TOMO says that it was only 4 episodes ago. They all try to recall what it's about. Kawai seems to explain to them what it is (it's where one member tries to guess what their subject is, based on 3 questions they get to ask the other members). They laugh at how they weren't able to remember it.

•They then announce that they'll be doing another live broadcast on TOKYO FM on Mon. December 18th from 2 am to 4 am JST (click to convert to your time zone). They say that even though it's a weekday, they'd like people to participate live. RINA says there are days when you're a bit tired and sleep-deprived, but you feel like you're getting through it easily and feel a little excited, and that they'll make the broadcast day like that. HARU agrees and says they'll make it a really fun radio program, and then announces the message theme: "Midnight no Naka de Bokura Zutto, Line of sight na Ao no Naru Shinya no Sukima de from the darkness na Hanashi wo Yoake no Ryuuseigun to Tomo ni Mabataki Shinaide one more time" ("In the middle of the night, we're always in the line of sight talking about stories from the darkness in the gaps of the blue, ringing night with a meteor shower at dawn, one more time without blinking" lol) - or "Mayonaka no Hisohisobanashi" (Whispered Conversations In the Middle of the Night). The band laughs at this. HARU says that the title wasn't actually abbreviated at all. Since it's the program's first late night live broadcasts, they'd like people to send in personal experiences/stories that they'd like to talk about secretly. This includes things like personal confessions, quirks, preferences, seeing something you couldn't tell anyone about, shocking sights. Messages related to love are also okay.

•Another thing they announce is that they will be doing Power Word Awards this year as well. This is where you send in any remarks or comments from the band said on the program in 2023 that you found particularly striking/memorable/etc. The deadline to send them in is December 10. HARU says that apparently some listener have already sent some messages in for it, even though they didn't announce it beforehand. RINA says that they must be longtime listeners who know the flow of the program. HARU laughs that it helps that Ono also remembered to hold the awards. They wonder if any of what they've said this past year on the program have been memorable, but Ono says that there apparently have been a lot. HARU and RINA say they're not too confident about it, and then laugh.

HARUNA on TOMOMI's misreading: "This is a candidate for the Power Word Awards"

Episode #35 blog

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 Kf179HR

HARUNA: We'll just be reading messages this time. Let's get to it.

Yacchi

I attended Kanshasai vol.2 at Zepp Haneda! The setlist was really awesome!!

I've been going to SCANDAL concerts every year since I started working in 2018, but this was my first time hearing so many songs live. Seeing how the fans around me knew how to vibe to any song made me realize that I'm still a newbie... I'll go to more and more concerts from now on and do my best so that I can show off my vibing with a smug look on my face!

Congratulations on the 15th anniversary of your debut!

HARUNA: There were quite a few old songs on this tour, so vibing to songs is definitely something to think about...

RINA: Something like that will make you go, "How do you vibe to this song?" But you're free to do whatever you want, so no need to worry about it at all!

HARUNA: You don't have to worry about it at all, and even if you think do, I don't think the people around you care at all.

RINA: It's the MANIA members in our fan club who create the vibes. But they also want to make the newcomers feel comfortable...I think many of them have already thought that much about it, so I really hope they can enjoy the music how they like.

HARUNA: But it would be surprising for them to see people suddenly start spinning towels during a chorus.

TOMOMI: That's true.

RINA: It'll make you go, "So that's what you do during this song!"

TOMOMI: As for Kanshasai, I think more than half the audience had at least one song that they had never heard before.

HARUNA: That's definitely not the case with "BEAUTeen!!", right?

MAMI: Yeah, we haven't played that for a while.

HARUNA: Please keep coming back to our concerts!

TOMOMI:Now for the next message.

Watapan

I attended the Billboard JAPAN Women In Music concert held at Hibiya Park Concert Hall on November 3. I usually go to SCANDAL concerts alone, but this was the first time I invited my husband. He had attended "NAON no YAON" 10 years ago to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the venue, and he said, "SCANDAL performed at that~"

When the event started and we were listening to Nishina, the first performer, sing, a 7-8 cm bee-like insect flew onto the back of a middle-aged man wearing a yellow "Sekai Ichi" t-shirt who was sitting one row in front of us. As I stood by and watched in horror as the same bug repeatedly flew at the man in the yellow shirt, my husband calmly explained that the insect was trying its best to stretch its mouth toward the t-shirt. He said that the bug probably thought the yellow t-shirt was a flower and was trying to suck the nectar. Unfortunately, the bug could not suck the nectar, and it did not come close to us after that.

SCANDAL appeared at the end of the show in the outfits from their latest promo photos, and when I saw them, I couldn't help muttering how cool they looked the moment I saw them. I enjoyed dancing and shouting as much as I could in the pleasant night breeze!

On the way home, I asked my husband, "Wasn't SCANDAL cool?" He said, "It was so wonderful! I was surprised to see TOMOMI dancing and playing beautifully. And the flower sitting in front of us...

MAMI: What??

HARUNA: ...eh? Flower!?

MAMI: The "flower" that was sitting in front!! It doesn't say "flower," does it?

TOMOMI: Sorry, I misread...

MAMI: Eh?

HARUNA: This is a "Power Word Award" candidate.

TOMOMI: That was my mistake... The listener didn't write that.

MAMI: What did they really write?

TOMOMI: It says, "The flower-man sitting in front of us was also..."

MAMI: No, no, no, they go together, "flower" and "flower-man."

TOMOMI: I'll continue...

"And the flower-man sitting in front of us was also vibing a lot," he said. He seemed to have enjoyed the atmosphere of the venue, and I'm glad we were able to go together to the concert.

MAMI: The listener also wrote "flower-man," right?

TOMOMI: Yeah, not just "flower." They were just wearing a yellow shirt.

MAMI: But the listener is also roasting the guy, right?

RINA: They are, and the husband is too.

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 SVYcj0U
Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 CfZh72O

•The episode starts with this. The band says that there were a lot of bugs at the venue. RINA says that there were a lot of praying mantis in particular. MAMI wonders if the flower-man really was okay since the bug kept flying into him. TOMO says that it did sound like it was trying to taste him. They wonder if there were any people who also became flowers and were stung or such, and to let them know.

•RINA reads the next message from a listener who went to the H2 Energy Festival and says it was their first time succeeding in taking their girlfriend to watch SCANDAL live. She agreed to go because she wanted to see the auto show, and it also had the festival aspect (RINA: "That's the hurdle that had to be cleared [in order for her to go to SCANDAL concert]?"). She knew almost all of the songs played, so the listener was very happy to see the SCANDAL-learning on the drive over was put to good use. They say they'd like to take her to a solo concert next, and that she also became a fan of RINA's after being overwhelmed by her intense drumming. RINA thanks them and says that makes her happy to hear. She also says that they had performed "Onegai Navigation" that day after not playing in a long time, which makes it impressive that the GF knew the song.

•MAMI reads the next message from a listener who saw SCANDAL at the Muginotoki festival where they had performed an acoustic set. They say that they don't think there are many bands that show the soles of their shoes like that, though. They laugh and HARU says that they didn't particularly want to show the soles off. They laugh and say that those listening who have no idea what that's about probably are confused, and then say that they'll get to it in a bit. HARU talks about the festival and says that it was their first time appearing at it. They had ties to it with the WILD STOCK camping show, which TOMO has been the MC for, and TOMO had been saying for a while how nice of a festival it is. TOMO says that that was their first time playing a full acoustic set. HARU says that it was about 40 minutes and they played each song with an MC in between, but they couldn't talk too much or they would run out of time. That's why they were kind of in a hurry and had to check with the staff in the wings to make sure they were keeping on time. TOMO says that their outfits were sponsored this time, with their shoes being from KEEN and their clothes being from BAMBOO SHOOTS. They wanted to show off the shoes, which is why they were showing the shoes off. MAMI says that the logo was on the side of the shoes so they lifted their legs to show it off, but apparently all people could see was the soles of the shoes (like this). RINA says that the logo is on the soles, though. She also says that wearing outdoor clothing in a venue surrounded by nature, and that everything was great. TOMO says she's glad they went with those outfits since it was pretty cold that day. The others agree. RINA says that the team from the clothing brand was so happy that they were crying, which made the band feel all warm and fuzzy. HARU says they're good people. TOMO says it made her feel like a real adult.

•Another thing the listener mentioned is seeing the girl who TOMO made cry during a Mölkky game. TOMO laughs and says that she did make her cry. She and MAMI were recording for WILD STOCK and were playing as a team. The other team consisted of Aswa (the show's other MC) and a little girl picked from the crowd. You can actually watch them play it here. At first, Aswa's team was doing so well that they were ahead of M&T, but then they started making a comeback. When TOMO went, "We're making a comeback!", the girl started crying. They all laugh at this. MAMI says that TOMO was pretty fired up. RINA asks how old the girl was. They say she was probably elementary school age. MAMI says that the girl plays Mölkky for fun and probably does it on a regular basis, she probably was frustrated that she wasn't able to show off her strength. MAMI again says how fired up TOMO was, which makes them all laugh. TOMO says that the girl was probably also nervous because there were a lot of people around them watching. RINA says that when a kid does an activity such as sports or playing music with an adult, it's always better to have the adult take them seriously, even if the kid loses. HARU says that they know when adults are going easy on them. RINA says that even though the kid cried at the time, she's sure it'll be a great memory for them later. TOMO says that the winning team was awarded with some items from a camping brand and they said they'd give the kid an item, which ended up being a sukajan (embroidered bomber jacket) that she was happy about getting. She says that the kid teared up a little (in happiness? lol), which made them feel relieved. MAMI says that the kid probably did feel a little frustrated and embarrassed, and after they took a group photo together, the kid took off the jacket right away. They all laugh at this. HARU says that she probably did feel embarrassed.

•HARU reads the next message from a listener who saw SCANDAL at GRIOTTO, the event where they played a joint-band concert with KEYTALK. This was their first time attending a concert since the pandemic started. They say they were moved by what the organizer Morita said at the end of the event. The band says that Morita is very passionate and even left a letter in their dressing room as well as greeted them in person before the event. They also talk about how events like that have a different kind of passion to them. Everyone is working together to make the day more exciting, and that kind of cohesion makes everything very passionate. They then talk about KEYTALK and how they're friends who have also been playing music together for a long time, and there are so many things that SCANDAL could relate to, like how they were trying their best to find the joy while trying to find various ways to make things better, and how they were moving forward. RINA says that that made them feel emotional. HARU says that they're all around the same age, after all, and that there are surely some problems that people their age face. MAMI says that KEYTALK has had the same band members the entire time as well. RINA says that she was talking to Yagi the drummer and noticed that the way he holds his drumsticks has changed and he now holds them like how jazz drummers do. He said that that's because he figured out that that's the best way to hold them that suits his body now. RINA says that she's also changed her form and training methods a lot, and it made her think that she's sure that everyone is going through all sorts of things. She felt encouraged and made her want to work harder. HARU says that both bands are doing their best while going through a lot of changes. RINA says she hopes that people who listen to their music and are influenced by it, even if just a little, will create a new era of music, and she hopes that all-girl bands will continue to survive and thrive in this way. She says that this was a very wonderful day.

Discovering new hobbies for 2024! Can SCANDAL find a hobby that tickles their curiosity?

Season 2, Episode 36 blog

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 18yMzM4

HARUNA: So, this time we'll be doing a segment for the first time. It's called... "LOVE SHUMI DO"!

RINA: What!?

MAMI: You mean "HERE WE GO!"??

HARUNA: I hope that's included.

TOMOMI: "Shumi"...as in "hobby"?

HARUNA: Yes, hobby. I'll read the script. We, SCANDAL, a global all-girl band, certified by Guinness World Records...

RINA: We're saying that for ourselves!?

HARUNA: We should find a new global "hobby" for next year!
And the staff thought, "LOVE SHUMI DO."

RINA: I see.

TOMOMI: A "global hobby"? I'm curious about that.

HARUNA: In short, they're proposing to find a new hobby for us.

MAMI: Thank you.

HARUNA: Kawai-chan and Ono have found candidates for a new hobby, so please consider it together.

MAMI: I'm glad!

TOMOMI: Thanks for the help!

HARUNA: We've received a list of new hobbies and will introduce them.

(Staff: But first, tell us about your current hobbies!)

TOMOMI: For me, I would say plants. And also camping. I haven't been able to go lately, but fishing. I also have a boating license. I love nature-related activities.

MAMI: I love Sanrio!

RINA: That's right.

MAMI: I devote 80% to 90% of my hobbies to Sanrio. Lately, I've been watching [comedian] Eiko Kano's YouTube channel a lot.

TOMOMI: He's so funny.

RINA: It cheers you upー

MAMI: I play his videos at home all the time, and I think it is becoming one of my hobbies.

RINA: I like comedy! I especially love [the comedian duo] Diane, and I'm always excited when I'm able to go see them perform. I see or go to comedy performances every day, and I listen to comedians' programs on the radio, and podcasts as well. The first time I saw a live comedy performance at Lumine, I thought, "How cool is that?" It was the same as when I heard a band play live for the first time and thought, "Wow!" When the opening music came on and the two Diane members appeared in their suits, I thought, "They're so cool...!! Oh my God!!"

TOMOMI: That can happen.

RINA: It was really fun.

TOMOMI: When comedians perform live, they do a lot of material that can never be shown on TV, so the impression I got from watching them on TV was totally different from the impression I got from seeing them live in person.

RINA: Totally different!

TOMOMI: That's what I like about it.

RINA: It's great, isn't it?

TOMOMI: It's totally different from music, too.

RINA: Yeah, it's great.

HARUNA: I like to dance. I started doing it a little bit after the pandemic started. I can't really go often because I'm busy, but I still go at least once a month.

RINA: That's great you're still continuing to do it.

HARUNA: It used to be my dream, but now it's become a hobby.
So, now that we have announced everyone's current hobbies, let's get some suggestions for a new LOVE SHUMI DO.

First one. Bonsai!

RINA: That's really good!

TOMOMI: Ah. Bonsai is already a LOVE SHUMI DO for me...

RINA: You do it??

HARUNA: You do it, right?

TOMOMI: It overlaps [with my current hobbies]...

HARUNA: Just to give you an idea:
It is extremely popular overseas and is commonly referred to as "bonsai."' The World Bonsai Convention held once every four years is also popular. Starting with the first event held in Saitama Prefecture, it has been held all over the world, including the US, South Korea, Germany, and Puerto Rico. In 2017, the second tournament was held in Saitama City after 28 years, and bonsai fans from all over the world were enthusiastic, with 100 million yen worth of bonsai on display. There are many young foreigners who go out of their way to become apprentices to famous Japanese bonsai artists to learn from them.

All: Wow!

RINA: There's a competition?

HARUNA: Wow, once every four years. It's like the Olympics.

TOMOMI: I heard that the value of a bonsai can change by millions depending on whether or not you cut this one branch.

MAMI: You mean the way it's cut.

RINA: Do you do it at home, TOMO?

TOMOMI: Yes, I grow them. I don't do anything to shape it too much, so I think you can probably get really into it if you dig deeper into the activity.

•The episode starts with this.

•The second hobby suggested is geocaching. The band is confused as to what it means and is. HARU reads off the explanation: "Geocaching is, in a word, an evolution of the treasure hunt game (TOMO: "I like the sound of that").  A participant hides a secret box called a geocache somewhere. Then, they register the information of the location on an official site. Then, other participants who have seen the information visit the site and try to find the cache. The hiding places are very varied, such as between stones, under a tree, in a pipe, in foodstuffs, etc. The size of the boxes vary from Tupperware to beanbag-sized boxes. Sometimes they are disguised as tree roots, rocks, switch boxes, poles, or other objects rather than boxes. Inside the small box is a logbook on which the finder's name is written. If it's Tupperware-sized, it contains some treasure. There are over 6 million participants worldwide."

•The band says they've never heard of this before. TOMO says they should do it for this program. They say that maybe they could leave something for listeners to find. MAMI says that it's kind of like their Mystery Tours they've held in the past (basically a treasure hunt). TOMO says they should put some of their new program merch into a Tupperware and hide it somewhere. HARU says they could also hide stickers around. Ono then mentions that the place in Japan that has the most hidden geocache items is Aichi Prefecture. TOMO asks how many there are. He says around 2,000. HARU asks where geocaching first started out from, which Ono doesn't know. Then then talk about how they could do this whenever they tour overseas since the program doesn't ship items outside of Japan. HARU wonders if there are people who handle the logbooks inside of the boxes--for example, is there anyone who would add new sheets after it fills up? They end it by saying that they'll look into geocaching more. TOMO says that it's totally a candidate for a hobby.

•The third hobby suggested is searching for UFOs. TOMO immediately says she loves that, which makes MAMI laugh. HARU reads: "NASA announced the launch of a program to track unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), including unidentified flying objects (UFOs), on April 14. NASA has entered the UFO exploration field in earnest. NASA's independent team of 16 scientists has spent a year investigating the realities of the UAP search. The report concluded that a rigorous, evidence-based approach was needed, leading to the formal launch of the program." RINA wonders if what's being suggested means finding UFOs as a hobby. The staff is heard laughing in the background.

•MAMI says that the other day in India, planes weren't able to fly due to a UFO (link to an article about it). The others are curious. MAMI continues that they don't know if it was a UFO or not, but an unidentified flying object showed up at an airport. HARU goes, "Really? It showed up at an airport?" MAMI says yes, and that planes weren't able to take off for 1-2 hours. TOMO says that an airport is an easy place to land at, after all, which makes the staff laugh. HARU wonders what happened with the UFO after. MAMI says that it disappeared. HARU goes, "What does 'disappeared' mean?!" MAMI says that it went off somewhere. HARU asks if that means it flew off. MAMI says she thinks so and seems to find an article online about it. HARU goes, "This is seriously like E.T." MAMI reads more and says airport operations were suspended for 3 hours, and that the object hasn't been identified. TOMO wonders if that means that it landed. MAMI reads more of what it says (just check the above-mentioned link if you want to read about it). TOMO says that she can imagine UFOs being the size of an airplane or an alien about the size of a human, but there might already be invisble UFOs among us right now. She also says that there might be a lot of fake videos going around of UFO sightings, but she thinks it's highly likely that actual UFOs are ones that we can't even imagine. MAMI says that there could be UFOs just going by normally like cars. The band agrees that this would be a fun hobby. TOMO says that they could talk about this kind of stuff forever. RINA says that it would probably mean they should always live their lives with UFOs in mind. MAMI says that her mom always seems to see UFOs. HARU says that they did talk about that on the program before.

•The fourth hobby suggested is mahjong. TOMO says that she's been playing it recently after being taught how to play by a friend. The staff says something unintelligble in the background that makes MAMI say how she doesn't understand the rules at all, and RINA and HARU say the same. TOMO says that you do need a friend who understands how to play. RINA wonders if she has any friends who play. MAMI says that she has a lot, but she's personally not very interested in playing. HARU says that it might be an easy hobby to get started with. TOMO says that it'll get your brain moving, which the others agree with.

•The fifth and last hobby suggested is digging for fossils. They all seem to really like this idea. MAMI says she used to go often in elementary school and found a shell from hundreds of thousands of years ago. TOMO says that she used to have a kit for digging up fossils. RINA says that she used to love corners [at museums and such, most likely] where you could dig up fake dinosaur fossils. They all agree that this sounds like a really nice hobby. RINA says that they should go dig for fossils. HARU says that she saw something on the news about how they're trying to revive woolly mammoths. TOMO and MAMI say that they're trying to cross mammoth DNA with modern elephants and birth them that way. RINA wonders if that'd be okay to do. TOMO says that it could disrupt the balance of things. MAMI says that it'll be like the earth is being reborn. TOMO says that they're basically trying to create an elephant that is resistant to the cold. MAMI says that the ice age will be coming. HARU wonders if it actually will come.

•They round up the hobbies mentioned and say that they'll look for UFOs and dig up fossils (MAMI: "And get done in by mammoths"). HARU says that it seems that geocaching is one that they could probably start doing soon. RINA says that they'll need to look up details and such first. HARU says that she does want to go and look for geocaches and wonders if there are any closeby. TOMO says that there are probably over 100 of them at Yoyogi Park, and there might even be some right next to their places. They thank the staff for putting this list of hobbies together. TOMO says that there weren't any that they'd definitely not do. HARU says that there are some that some members already do, like bonsai and mahjong.

What action do the band members take when they sense it's someone's first time seeing SCANDAL live?

Season 2, Episode 37 blog

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 QDj87B0

HARUNA: So...

RINA: We'll be reading messages!

HARUNA: Yes, let's read them.

Choco

Good evening, SCANDAL!

The other day, I participated in OSAKA DREAM LIVE with my daughter. I told my friend's son, who used to be in a SCANDAL cover band at his high school, about it beforehand, and he said, "I definitely want to go! I want to see SCANDAL!" So I decided to go with my friend, and our high-school and middle-school children.

I was a bit intimidated by all the young kids in the venue, but we were seated in the middle of the front row, and as a fan club member, I knew I had to get them excited! So, forgetting that I was a parent or guardian, I shouted and waved my arms around as much as I could. I didn't care if the young people around me were drawn in to me--I just wanted to send my love to SCANDAL for the last time this year, so I held my original TOMOMI towel and waved my hands. TOMO waved to me and HARU made a heart for me at the end. I was so happy.

My daughter, who had basically never been to a concert before, was frozen by the loud sound, but she said, "It was fun, including your nerdy side." My high-school friend's son said, "SCANDAL was great! I want to go again!" I'm sure there were many other young people who were touched by the concert, and I would like to spread the goodness of SCANDAL even more.

HARUNA: I remember that.

TOMOMI: Yeah, I saw them.

HARUNA: "OSAKA DREAM LIVE" was a free event where mainly students and their parents could attend together, so it was a valuable opportunity.

RINA: The atmosphere was different from usual, and it seemed like most of the audience was seeing us for the first time.

HARUNA: It was totally different from other events, such as solo concerts, so I was really happy to hear them get loud and raise their hands!

MAMI: Yeah.

TOMOMI: It's very helpful when someone takes the initiative to get loud at a concert like that, so the people around you get involved too.

HARUNA: It had been a long time since we could all sing "Shunkan Sentimental" together.

MAMI: It felt fresh.

RINA: I thought it was great that new people were watching us, and even though "Shunkan Sentimental'' was the first song, we realized that there were a lot of people who were listening to it for the first time. We felt like we had to guide them, and a switch was flipped on for all four of us. That was interesting.

HARUNA: Yeah.

RINA: I tried to put my feelings in words and show them in a way that could be enjoyed even if people didn't know the songs, so I put a different kind of energy into it.

HARUNA: It was good, wasn't it? It was our last time in Osaka this year.

•The episode starts with this.

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener whose messages are always read on the program, who says that they recently got married. They first started dating their now-wife right after "Catch up" started airing. The band congratulates them. MAMI says that time sure does fly by.

•MAMI reads the next message from a listener who's currently in their final year of high school, and they've had a crush on someone since their first year of middle school. They say they started to talking to them because they were sitting next to each other, and before they knew it, they had fallen in love with them. They're attending different schools now but exchange DMs regularly and go to the movies together. After graduating, the listener plans to get a job and also attend college in a neighboring prefecture. They want to tell them how they feel someday but can't find the courage to do so. They ask SCANDAL if they have any advice. The band is surprised the crush has been going on for 6 years now. They say that it seems like the crush feels comfortable with the listener since they've been in touch all this time. They wonder if it would become a long distance relationship since the listener says they plan to go out of the prefecture for college. TOMO says that if it's something like Tokyo and Kanagawa, it would just be one train ride away. They say that maybe a movie date would be the best place to talk about it. They could go see a movie and then talk things over at dinner. TOMO says that she thinks it's better to tell the crush how they feel before their environment changes. HARU says that if the listener doesn't mind approaching the crush first, she thinks it's okay to be a little aggressive. They say to let them know what happens next.

•RINA reads the next message from a listener who asks the band for advice. They haven't been in a relationship for a long time, so they don't know if it's fun to talk to someone because they like them or if they enjoy being friends. They met this person on Twitter because they both liked SCANDAL and exchanged DMs. The first time they met was at SCANDAL's 15th anniversary concert and they spent almost the whole day together, including going to SCANDAL-related places. After the concert they exchanged LINE info and talked about things like SCANDAL, anime, and other things they have in common. They enjoy talking to them as much as they enjoy talking to their good friends. They wonder if it's because they have so much in common, or if it's because they like them. They ask SCANDAL what they think. HARU says that's difficult to say. TOMO says that it's awesome either way, which makes the others laugh. MAMI says that the listener's starting to become more aware of their feelings at this point, and says that you usually don't think that you like a friend if you just consider them a friend, which the others agree with. TOMO says that the listener is saying that they haven't been in love for a long time and have forgotten what it feels like, so it's like they're wondering if what they feel is love or not. MAMI and RINA agree that the listener might be feeling love since they are considering it could be. HARU wonders what the other party feels about the listener. TOMO says that they are definitely enjoying each other's company since they have the same interests, so even if they're not feeling love, they're at least really good friends. It's hard to find someone who has so many shared interests as you, after all. She says that maybe there'll come a time when the listener starts to understand their feelings more, but either way, the other party's an important person to them. HARU wonders if they'd want to talk about things other than their shared interests. MAMI mentions how they spend a day going around places together, which probably isn't something you'd do unless you felt okay with each other. HARU brings up that that was related to the shared interests aspect, and again wonders if the listener would want to talk about casual stuff like something they ate recently that was delicious. RINA says that maybe they should try talking more about themselves with each other/ask each other things. They say that they're interested to see how their relationship might progress, and to let them know if anything happens.

•HARU reads the next message from a listener who attended the Nagoya performance of Kanshasai vol.2 with a friend from elementary school and a colleague from work. They also went to the Tokyo performance and went with another colleague from work. They work in the same department and were seated behind and in front of each other for the welcoming ceremony at work. They talked before the ceremony and became friends, and when they saw their phone wallpaper on the bus back home, they realized that it was a SCANDAL one. That's when they immediately clicked. The band says that that was fate, and that you do get excited when you find out someone's favorite artist is the same as yours. TOMO says that that's awesome that both their favorite artist is SCANDAL, and is a little surprised; she'd understand it better if their favorite artist was one like YOASOBI (who is very popular now). That makes the others laugh hard.

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener who is a newbie who has only started listening to SCANDAL recently. It all started with a person they met at the TOKYO ISLAND festival this past June, who told them that everything he does affects SCANDAL (the band is confused and TOMO laughs), and very enthusiastically told them his recommended SCANDAL songs. After, they started listening to the songs and watching videos on YouTube. Although they only got to see the last half of SCANDAL's set at that festival due to missing the bus, they attended the Muginotoki event in November and saw SCANDAL perform their acoustic set. They say they're sure they wouldn't have been able to see this performance if that person hadn't recommended them with such passion, and they're grateful he told them about SCANDAL. The band is surprised that the listener found out about them that way, and even found their way to "Catch up." They say they're happy to hear things like that. TOMO says that events are sometimes short and it's not possible to convey 100% of who they are, but it makes her really happy that there are people who take interest in them and make it this far, which is not a typical thing. RINA says she's also curious about this fan who told the listener about SCANDAL. They laugh and HARU goes, "Who is this?!" and that they definitely eat only Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt. They ask either the listener or the guy to write in and tell them what he said.

TOKYO FM - 『SCANDAL Mayonaka no Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 + After Talk

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 W1wVm2F
Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 KTg4dh6

•The message theme they asked people to send in is "Mayonaka no Hisohisobanashi" (Whispered Conversations/Secrets In the Middle of the Night). HARU reads the first message from a listener who is a single father of three daughters. His eldest started high school this year and joined the light music club. He was really excited that she would be performing "DOLL" on guitar and vocals at a competition and decided to go see her perform and cheer her on. However, the daughter told him that his ex-wife and the man she had an affair with would also be there to cheer her on. He says that while he was really excited, he was also thrown into the depths of hell. The band goes, "Ahh..." and that it's reasonable that at least the ex would go cheer her daughter on and bring the guy along with her. RINA says that it is complicated, though. MAMI laughs and says that it's complicated in many ways. They tell the dad to hang in there and that they'll send him a coupon for free yogurt.

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener who says that their secret is that they love to be called cute. Although he's a guy, he liked being called cute more than being called cool. Recently, one of his seniors at work said that he's very feminine and is cute. He likes cute things and has things such as a pink phone and orange car, but this is the first time in years that someone's said he's cute. He says this winter of his 19th year is one where he's been rewarded for having collected cute things in an age where men wear cute things and women wear cool things, and the concept of gender is changing. The band says that cute. RINA says that's nice to be particular about things.

•MAMI reads the next message from a listener who says that they like smells that most people don't like. He likes things like the slightly miffling smell of hand towels or the smell of his own feet after a long day of sweating from stress at work. He can't help but go, "Ugh!" and smell them over and over again, and has to smell them at least 5 times (TOMO: "Why??"). He says the more something smells, the better it is, but there is a limit and that he's trying to do it in moderation. The band laughs. RINA says that he is trying to be moderate and is smelling his own feet and stuff. TOMO says that those kinds of smells usually signal danger. They say that definitely is a secret. HARU laughs and says that it doesn't seem like any of them seems to be able to relate to it, though.

•HARU then reads that they are taking song requests with the theme "Songs you want your loved ones to hear" and will be airing them along with songs selected by the band. The first song is HARUNA's pick, "Ima -Even if the world ends tomorrow-" by SEVENTEEN. She says she finally got hooked on SEVENTEEN this year and listened to this song a lot. She thinks is wonderful if you have someone special in your life that comes to mind if the world were to end tomorrow. You don't know what the future holds, so you want to cherish the present once again. That's why she chose this song, and wants her loved ones to hear it.

•RINA reads the next message from a listener who says that at the local supermarket the other day, there was a Christmas event where they would give you 30% off if you dressed up as Santa. They felt really embarrassed to do so, but the 30% off made them take the plunge and dress up as Santa. When they got there, there were nothing but kids there--it turns out it was an event for children only. They were also very embarrassed to be seen by friends and neighbors while out shopping. The band laughs and says that is embarrassing but a cute story. MAMI says to just act like they're really enjoying Christmas this year, and that they could to go the market several more times dressed up as Santa. TOMO says to be like, "I'm not particularly going for a 30% discount." RINA says to be like, "This is just how much I enjoy December." RINA says that it must have been really embarrassing in the moment. HARU says that the listener probably wanted to hide.

•HARU reads the first song request: "Spider" by Spitz. The listener who requested it says that their mom loves Spitz, and whenever they got in her car when they were a child, Spitz CDs were always playing. "Spider" is one of her favorite songs and played it frequently, so when they hear this song, it brings back memories of when she used to drive them around as a kid and makes them feel nostalgic.

•HARU reads the next message from a listener who says that they've actually never used nail clippers. Ever since they were little, when their nails would grow long, they tear off the tips of their nails with their fingers. This goes for both their hands and feet. HARU guesses that the listener's nails must be really soft. TOMO starts going, "It's like a crab..." MAMI laughs and says soft-shelled crab shell. HARU says that her own nails are really thin--for example, if she bathes and her nails get slightly caught on something, it'll start tearing immediately. RINA asks if it's the same for her feet, but HARU's not sure. TOMO asks if it rips off just to the point where it doesn't hurt. HARU says yes. TOMO wonders if that's a good ability since it's convenient. RINA says that there must be times when a little too much gets ripped off. TOMO asks HARU if that's happened to her before. HARU says that her nails being thin isn't something that occurs all the time and just every so often, but she wonders about the listener. RINA wonders if they've gotten skilled at doing it since they've done it for so long. The others think that's probably the case as well.

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener who hasn't had a boyfriend for 3 years, and currently likes someone who is a hairdresser. They have similar tastes in music, favorite artists, act similar in many ways, etc. When they told him the other day that they wanted to go to a concert of their favorite artist, he asked what time it started. They said that they couldn't go due to their job, and he went, "Ah, guess that settles it." They told a friend about him and they said that that was definitely part of their sales tactic (i.e. be nice to your clients and you'll retain more of them). The listener says that it's true that hairdressers do have a strong sense of communication skills, but they're not sure if they do in fact like him. The band does agree that hairdressers are good at communication. TOMO says that she does understand how you could feel that you're falling for them. RINA wonders what part this salon is located in, and the others agree that it does depend on the area (some are more friendly, etc.). RINA wonders if the listener's from Tokyo, but apparently they didn't write down where they're located. TOMO and MAMI wonder if that's something the hairdressers do for sales tactics if they work for a large company. MAMI says that it sounds like the listener themself isn't even sure how they feel about him yet, which the others agree with. RINA and HARU say that what the hairdresser said about implying they'd go to the concert together if they could have made it on time would certainly make the listener's heart beat fast. TOMO says that concerts usually start between 5-7 pm, which is not a time that a hairdresser would be off by. That's why there's a chance that he knew from the start he'd say, "Ah, I guess that settles it." RINA says that she doesn't know if they're at the level where they've exchanged contact info, but suggest to just stay level-headed and watch the situation so that they won't get hurt. The others agree.

•MAMI reads the next message from a listener who says that they're married and have children, but since last year they've been addicted to themed cafes and spends within their range of pocket money. They say they're just looking for relaxation and don't feel guilty about going, but they can't tell their family about it; it's a hobby that's hard to talk about. The band laughs and RINA says that's cute. TOMO says that she's unfamiliar with those cafes. MAMI says that there's a big range of them. TOMO asks if it's related to cosplay. MAMI and RINA say some are like that. TOMO says that those sound fun. RINA says that she thinks it's fine to do if it cheers them up, that it's fine for them to have fun with their pocket money, and laughs that they don't need to feel so guilty about it because they're not doing anything bad. The band says that they do understand how the listener feels, though, but what they're doing is totally fine. They also say that it's important if they have fun doing it and it relaxes them. They thank the listener for telling them and say to enjoy keep enjoying doing it, which makes the staff laugh.

•The second song chosen by SCANDAL is "RASEN" by EOW, picked by TOMO. EOW are friends of hers and she went to a concert of theirs recently where they played this song towards thre end and talked about how they were really stuck on the production of this song. Keyboardist mamushi talked about beans and how leaves are the first thing that sprout on them. So as not to get in the way of the new leaves that grow under them, they change their angle a bit so that all of the leaves get sunlight--they start to grown in a spiral ("RASEN" 螺旋 means "spiral" in Japanese) and they all grow together. The band says that's really nice. TOMO says that she chose this song because she also wants to have a relationship with her loved ones with whom she can share the light.

•MAMI reads the next message from a listener who has been playing the guitar for many years and has performed in front of people. When they look at photos of themselves playing afterwards, they often have an indescribable look on their face. The band starts laughing at this. The listener says that they have a hard time keeping a straight face when concentrating on their performance. The band says that they totally get it. MAMI says that the ones that they upload online are the ones they think are okay, and they choose them from the huge number of photos that their photographers take. Among the ones that aren't chosen are a lot of photos of them with indescribable looks on their faces. TOMO laughs and says that her face gets all flappy-looking. RINA says that's probably because of the angle at which the photos are taken. TOMO says that there are usually like 40 photos like that, which makes them all laugh. MAMI says that she likes those kinds of photos and sometimes will upload them. RINA says that the advice she'd offer the listener is to increase the amount of photos taken. HARU laughs at this. RINA also says that if you develop a relationship with the photographer, you can tell them where would be the best place to shoot you during a certain song. TOMO says that the lighting can make your face look crazy, so it's best to take photos during several different songs. MAMI says to practice poses in the mirror to try and find some that would look cool. HARU says that what you're doing is less than you think you are--you may raise your hand, but you're not raising it as high as you think you are, or you may jump, but you're not jumping as high as you think you are. RINA says that it'd be great if you could get feedback about what part of your face needs improving. Maybe it'd look better if you closed your eyes, adjust the way you open your mouth. She says they might want to do a little more research on their own to see what's making them look a little off. TOMO says to send in some photos if they fix it, which the band laughs at.

•RINA reads the next message from a listener who says their best guy friend confessed his feelings for them, and they said they thought it'd be better to remain friends than to go out. After a month, the situation still wasn't going anywhere, and he mysteriously rejected them, saying he thought it'd be better to not go out with them after all. A week later, he told them that he'd likely be getting a girlfriend. Of course they wanted to congratulate him, but they were really bothered by it and realized that they thought they were best friends, but they actually had a crush on him. The band says you do hear this kind of thing from time to time. MAMI wonders why guys have to report stuff like they're getting a girlfriend. She then tells a story of how she and a guy friend in high school in her hometown both liked each other and had remained friends after graduating. As far as she could tell, he never seemed to have had a girlfriend for the longest time (though MAMI wasn't certain since she doesn't live there anymore), so she was wondering if that was because he still had feelings for her. She never had the intention of going out with him, though. That's why she never mentioned anything even though she felt like she got the vibe of him still liking her. But last year or the year before (she can't remember which), he told her he was getting married. She was like, "Great!" but then he said how he wanted to thank her for everything. She was like, "What? Thank you for what?? Why??" The band laughs at this. TOMO thinks he was trying to say something like, "I'm getting married. Are you okay with that?" MAMI goes, "Eh? Go ahead!", which makes them all laugh.

•MAMI was thinking how she wishes them happiness but was still wondering why he's thanking her. RINA says that even though they didn't go out, he probably thought of them as a bit like lovers. TOMO says that people remembering their past relationships seems to happen when they get married. HARU says that he probably thought that MAMI had always liked him. RINA says that that could be the case. TOMO says people do seem to want to report to their exes they're getting married. MAMI asks if it's like he's telling her what she thinks of him getting married. TOMO says she doesn't know. HARU says that maybe that'd make her miss him, and RINA continues that he might think that'll get her to notice how he feels, laughing while saying it. MAMI makes a creeped-out sound and goes, "I'd be like, 'Cut it out! Go get married properly to your actual girlfriend!'" TOMO says that's a pain. RINA says, "Aren't all guys kind of like that?" HARU says not all of them, which RINA agrees with. TOMO says that they have dating people like that, though, which makes them laugh. MAMI wraps it up by saying she felt the same kind of way as the listener, but rather than feeling jilted, she was more like, "What...??" RINA says the listener will be fine and is sure they'll be happy.

•HARU reads the next song request from a listener: "Straw" by aiko. They listen to this song when they're having trouble or if things aren't going well, and the line "I wish good things for you" in the song really resonates with them and reminds them that there are definitely good things in store for them.

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener whose story is about their breakup. They used to play SCANDAL songs in the car when they'd go out on dates with their ex-boyfriend, though he didn't really know the songs. They ended up breaking up due to their differences, and the last time they called each other to say goodbye, he said that he listened to "Fuzzy" and thanked them for introducing him to a great song. The listener says that the lyrics to "Fuzzy" were exactly about them: They always loved the time they spent together smoking cigarettes and lounging under the ventilation fan. MAMI says that's heartbreaking. TOMO says that he's a good guy, which makes the others laugh. She says he's certainly a good guy and that was a romantic farewell. HARU says the listener's glad he remembered. RINA says she's glad they made this song.

•HARU reads the next song request from a listener: "Chiisana Koi no Uta" by MONGOL800. The listener says that every time they meet someone they like, they sing this song in front them at karaoke because they want their feelings to reach them. The band laughs hard at this.

•After the song plays, they eat some Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt and then play MAMI's song pick: "Feel Special" by TWICE. MAMI says that she loves this song a lot. TOMO says that it makes you want to tear up. MAMI agrees and says it's a song that says "I can be special because of you." She felt supported by so many people while the band was trying to get their Guinness World Record this year, so she wants to express her gratitude to everyone who supported them. She says it may be a bit presumptuous, but she also chose this song thinking that she can be special because of all their fans.

•HARU reads the next message from a listener who says that she doesn't know if this is a story about a secret, but it is about a scary experience she had once. When she went to Hokkaido to see SCANDAL, she went to a Mongolian restaurant afterwards and sat next to a woman with Arashi merch on her. They got to talking and found out that she's a nurse who worked at the same hospital as her in Tokyo, with the listener working on the 8th floor and the lady working on the 9th floor. When the listener returned to Tokyo for work, the following day the lady came down to their ward to borrow something, and the listener was surprised to see her again. Moreover, when she got back home the next day, she found out that the lady lived in the apartment next to her. It had been about a year since she started living them, but she had never met their neighbors before, most likely due to working night shifts. She felt a little shaken and awkward about it all. They both looked each other and laughed. She says that if they had been the opposite sex, it would have been very dramatic. The band is surprised by this. TOMO says it's so fateful.  HARU says that does think them playing a concert in Hokkaido on the same day as Arashi did happen. TOMO says that they're probably going to become best friends. MAMI says the listener probably opened her front door and then happened to see the lady. The band says it does sound like a drama (HARU: "She did say it wouold have been more dramatic if they had been the opposite sex").

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener who says that MAMI's story earlier about that guy who liked her reminded her of something. Her then-boyfriend (now-husband) told her about his ex-girlfriend and the listener didn't get over it until he proposed to her. Since she's a very jealous person, she tried very hard to forget about before, and there were many times when it was tough for her, but she's very happy now that they're married. She says she's glad she persevered and got over it. MAMI says that guys really do like to talk about their ex-gfs. RINA wonders, "You're even thinking of getting married, and then you tell your wife-to-be about your ex?" HARU thinks that they probably want to make them jealous. MAMI thinks it's because they want to tell their current lover what happened before. RINA says you shouldn't feel sad about it then. HARU agrees. TOMO again says that this kind of thing is a pain. MAMI says she doesn't really get what kind of psychology they're trying to use. RINA repeats what was said earlier about wanting to make their current lover jealous.

•MAMI then says that a reply has come from a guy about this same kind of topic and reads it, which starts out with, "That's right - The men of the world cannot forget their past relationships." The band bursts out in laughter. He says that the memory of being popular lasts a lifetime, and that they think the girls who have loved them in the past will love them for the rest of their lives. He ends it with an apology about how men are like that. MAMI and RINA say that if you say it clearly and honestly like this, you'll be a lot more likeable. HARU says they should live their lives thinking that way. MAMI says that it's better to live your life understanding things like this and thanks him for sharing his thoughts, which makes the band laugh. HARU says that live broadcasts really are interesting. TOMO says that it makes them happy to get reaction messages.

•HARU reads the next song request: "Ichibu to Zenbu" by B'z. The request is for his wife, who is currently on an overnight boat trip. Their kid, who used to be very attached to the wife, is now in 8th grade. Since his work keeps him busy, he can't attend most of the kid's events, which is why he asks their kid to do outings with him during Golden Week, at the end of the year, and the beginning of the year. He apologizes for all the trouble and thanks her as well. He says that his wife is such a B'z fan to the leven that she only listens to B'z. He hopes that she's able to stretch her wings and relax on the trip. The band cheers at the request for "Ichibu to Zenbu" and says that's awesome.

•They then announce that they have new merch items for the program, including stickers and a pouch. The pouch looks like this. The band says it's really cute and stylish.

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener whose girlfriend of three and a half years cheated on them. They don't regret that she cheated on them, but instead regret that they let her cheat on them and think that they could have been there for her more. They think of her every day when they hear "Platform Syndrome" because the scene of the affair was at her place by a train crossing. The band says that must be painful. RINA wonders if they're the type to hurt themselves. TOMO agrees and says it seems like the listener feels like it must have been their fault that she cheated on them, even though they didn't do anything wrong. RINA says that maybe they just got too used to things in those three and a half years. HARU says that maybe they didn't contact each other much anymore. RINA says that maybe they took things for granted. She also says that the listener seems like a sweet person based on their writing, and it doesn't seem like they're the one who did anything bad. HARU laughs sadly before pointing out that they're going out of their way to listen to "Platform Syndrome." RINA says that they're hurting themselves too much. TOMO then wonders if it means that they're not broken up. RINA says they can't be sure since the only thing they wrote was that they were cheated on. TOMO says it sounds like the current situation is that they're listening to the song and thinking of her. MAMI says that probably means they're going "I love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you" like in the lyrics. TOMO says that they're making this way too painful for themselves, which makes the others laugh. The band then wonders what song is going to play next. There's a pause before they laugh and wonder if they should go with "Platform Syndrome" because of this message. TOMO says they'll show them different kinds of hell.

•After the song's played, RINA says that there was a part of the previous listener's message that was cut by the staff, but she'll now read it. The question is about the lyrics of the song. He asks what situation the lyrics "Nanjuukai mo kizutsukete - Sore yori hitotsu ooku - Yurushite kureta ne (I hurt you dozens of times over - And you forgave me - One too many times)" describe. They think it's that the other party broke up with the speaker because they wouldn't forgive them for their last fight, and thought that there were more situations where they were forgiven one less time than they were hurt. RINA laughs and says that's way too complicated. TOMO says that if you're the one who dumped the other person, you fight, and at the end you break up because you can't forgive them. So rather than being forgiven for one more thing, it's more like subtracting one because they couldn't be forgiven for something they did. HARU says, "And the actual answer is...?" RINA, who wrote the lyrics, says that that interpretation is correct. She also says, "When you're together, there are many moments when you hurt each other. And when you break up, you look back and realize that you were able to be in a relationship because one of you forgave the other many times. One person was willing to put up with or forgive the other more each time. It's a regret that you only realize later." There's a pause before HARU goes, "Got it?", as if talking to the listener. They all laugh. TOMO hope that the listener's okay. RINA says that it might make life easier for him if he just thinks simply about stuff. She thinks he's a very kind person, so she hopes he doesn't make things too hard on himself or think too hard. HARU says that the listener is probably crying right now, which makes RINA laugh. RINA says that she thinks he'll be okay and will definitely meet someone else, since he's only 23 years old right now.

•MAMI reads the next message from a listener who currently has two people she likes. One is older, in his 30s, smart, good at his job, has money, a house, and a car. He is a handsome man who is near perfect by anyone's standards. The other one is younger, in his early 20s, has no money, no house, no car, and is barely getting by, but he's a handsome guy whose kindness is second to none (MAMI: "So they're both handsome guys, huh"). The older one is quite popular, and he plays with women so much that she's always worried that he might disappear at any moment. The younger one is very single-minded and has a sweetness of a younger man that she misses. His behavior towards her is also very gung-ho. But he's barely able to make ends meet, so if they start dating, she'll feel like she'll have to work hard, and has a hard time responding to love. She'd overall like to date the older guy, but she thinks it'll be pretty difficult to get him to look her way. She wonders if she'll ever be able to have a good love life, and says she can't help but feel anxious when she thinks about it late at night. TOMO goes, "Is this an otome game or what?" The others laugh. HARU says it's like she's trying to choose her final love. RINA says she thinks neither are the right ones for her. She goes, "Do you want to spend the rest of your life with someone who has all those specs but no love for you and plays around with women?" She also says that if she's happy to spend her time that way, then she guesses it's fine. TOMO says that it sounds like the youngest is best. RINA brings up that the listener did say she'd be worried to be with him (due to money issues). MAMI says the listener's at the point of the game where she has to choose what to do. RINA says to run away, which makes them laugh. There may be love waiting for her after running away and getting over those worries. MAMI says that the older guy might look her way, or the younger guy might get a stable job. HARU says that if the younger guy can hang in there, he might do well. MAMI agrees, and then says she should push the button to run away. All of them laugh. RINA says it could be good to give things more time and see what happens. HARU says to run away before a battle happens." TOMO goes, "This is an otome game, though! They don't fight," which they laugh at. MAMI says to just wait in front of the loading screen for a bit. RINA says that the listener has many options. MAMI and TOMO mention the late night aspect and that everyone worries late at night, so she should get some sleep and think about it later.

•RINA's song pick is played next: "Atashi no Zenbu wo Aisenai" by Ako. She says she loves all of Ako's music and has been following her for a long time. They actually had a chance to connect and Ako came to see SCANDAL live and became good friends. When RINA heard this song for the first time, the title of it was impactful. She feels there are a lot of people who are trying to boost their self-esteem these days, and she thinks this song is a way of affirming that it's okay to feel like that some days. The lyrics also made her feel that it's okay to live a little more selfishly. She says it's a song that'll relax your mind from a different angle, so she hopes people listen to it with care.

•They read a message next, and it's prefaced by the staff saying it's a reaction to a previously read message. MAMI starts reading it, and it's from the listener who said earlier that they liked going to concept cafes, though this time they changed their pseudonym to "Concept cafe-loving dad." They say, "As we talked at a concafe [with an employee], we had a favorite band in common, which was KEYTALK. They always get me excited. So, I would like to request my favorite song, 'MONSTER DANCE.'" The band erupts and laughter and goes, "Wait a minute!" and says that the content's changed from what they had mentioned earlier. TOMO asks MAMI to read the message again. They laugh and RINA says it must mean that that cafe employee is important to them. HARU says that this is actually a song request message. RINA says that she would have liked to have heard more about the cafe and what those two talked about. TOMO says that there's a possibility it was a monster-themed cafe, which they all laugh at. MAMI goes, "You mean like a KEYTALK-themed cafe?" They laugh at this as well. They say that "MONSTER DANCE" is a good song for this time of night, but they can't fulfill the song request since it was too abrupt. They say that KEYTALK is a good band and the song is also good, that SCANDAL had actually covered the song in the past, and that they played a joint-band concert with KEYTALK recently.

•TOMO starts to read the next message but mistakenly says this person's pseudonym is "Masamasa," which is the name that cafe guy used. They all start laughing before TOMO says she goofed and this person's name is actually "Makimaki." The listener says that this isn't something they can tell many people to, but when they eat at home, they enjoy eating very badly mannered. They eat with their elbows on their knees, with their mouth wide open, and with a lot of noise. They live their life thinking that no one is going to get mad at them even though they're eating so badly, and that it's delicious. They ask, "Don't you think scenes in movies of people munching down food look delicious?" The band laughs and says it's cute how they don't want others to find out about this bad habit of theirs. RINA says that there certainly are certain things that you can do when you're alone. MAMI says that they're the same as that listener earlier how likes the smell of weird things like hand towels. TOMO jokes that only idiots listen to this program.

•HARU reads the next message from a listener who planned to go to so many SCANDAL things (tour, signings) that there were some days they weren't able to take paid leave. They really wanted to attend all of the concerts [on the "unlimited UTOPIA" tour, most likely], so they skipped work on those days to go to them. One of their followers on social media is a co-worker who is in a different department, which is why they say this is a secret. The band thanks them for attending all of the events.

•They then start to close out the program with "MONSTER DANCE." HARU laughs at how they were able to fit it in. RINA says that they can use this as a talking point the next time they go to that cafe. MAMI says that the other person will get really excited. As they're trying to close out the program, HARU says she never imagined they'd be closing it with this song. They laugh at how people coming across this program might think it's actually a KEYTALK one.

•HARU asks how their first late-night live broadcast was. They say it was fun. RINA says that the content they receive changes depending on the time of day. MAMI says that ones sent after 3 am are like they're getting desperate. They say everyone's messages were of high quality and that they want to do something like this again. They're then told that the program will actually end with a SCANDAL song, which they're glad about. "Yoake no Ryuuseigun" is played since it's almost 'yoake' (dawn). They thank everyone for tuning in.

Listen to the after talk:
https://audee.jp/voice/show/73917

•HARU says that it suddenly got really hot during the last part of the broadcast. MAMI says it was interesting. RINA says it was exciting. HARU says that it was their first time doing a two-hour recording and their first time broadcasting late at night. Live broadcasts are also a rare thing for them as well. She then realizes that they never did call any listeners after all. RINA says that the real-time exchange of messages in response to what the band was saying was something that could only happen during a live broadcast. They say it was really interesting. HARU says it was interesting enough that they'd want to do a live broadcast for every episode. RINA says they get to know things about listeners that they wouldn't during a normal episode. They laugh and agree.  HARU says that talks about secrets are good to do. RINA says it made her go, "So you guys do these things, huh..." TOMO says that the most interesting things are the things people don't normally talk about. MAMI says that she's sure there are others who can relate to things that were mentioned. RINA says there totally must be.

•They then talk about how the concept cafe guy was interesting. TOMO says that it's fine to think of going to concept cafes as a secret, but she wishes they would have thought twice about the "MONSTER DANCE" mention since this was a live broadcast. They laugh at that. HARU says that their program got hijacked at the end. MAMI brings up how he had used one pseudonym for the first message but changed it to "Concept cafe-loving dad" for the next one. She's glad that it was easy to understand who he was, though. RINA says that he must have been excited when his message was read. TOMO says to send anymore messages with the second pseudonym in the future. RINA says that they'll recognize it, which makes them laugh. HARU says it's impressive to get recognized in one day. RINA says that it's funny to think that people with such personalities and characters come to their concerts. TOMO says it's adorable.

•HARU wonders if there's anything else they should look back on. RINA says that it'd be nice to put together a playlist of songs that were aired. MAMI wonders if "MONSTER DANCE" should be on it. HARU says it's okay to add it since that whole bit was interesting. TOMO says they'll close it out with "Yoake no Ryuuseigun." MAMI says she's glad for the cafe guy. TOMO says that things really calmed down the moment it went from "MONSTER DANCE" to "Yoake no Ryuuseigun." RINA says it was like they were recognizing the sound of themselves. MAMI says it was like they were finally getting to talk about themselves. HARU laughs and says that playing "MONSTER DANCE" during their own radio program felt really strange. RINA says it felt new.

•They say that they'd love to do this again. HARU says that they really hung in there to do a broadcast at this time of day/night. RINA says they had discussed recording this kind of episode instead, but she's glad they hung in there and did the live broadcast instead. HARU says that they are really busy right now and haven't had a break so they were kind of worried whether they'd be okay doing this broadcast, but on the contrary, they feel more energized. MAMI says it feels like they can work hard again tomorrow. TOMO says that they have to record tomorrow. RINA says that she'll be recording drums in just a few more hours. HARU says that she thinks they've had this kind of conversation before. RINA says that they've had this kind of schedule many times before. HARU clarifies that she thinks they did this same schedule for their previous live broadcast. But this is their usual kind of schedule, after all. RINA says that it's the end of the year as well. They say they'll keep doing their best.

An extension of the late-night special program "Mayonaka Catch up" on TOKYO FM! There was actually a follow-up from the person who became a hot topic during the live broadcast..!

Season 2, Episode 38 blog

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 C9II6lg

HARUNA: It's currently 4:12 am. We just finished a special live broadcast on TOKYO FM... We'd like to take advantage of that momentum and record one more episode.
"Mayonaka Catch up - Yoake no Enchou-sen (Overtime at Dawn)!"
~Will you join us for Bulgaria Yogurt at dawn? Special!

All: Ohー!

TOMOMI: Let's goー

HARUNA: We've been hit by "MONSTER DANCE" and want to keep the momentum going. So, straight from the live broadcast special, we'll read some messages.

MAMI: Wow, here it comes. I'll read it.

Concept cafe-loving dad

This is my first time sending in a comment like this, so I'm sorry if I didn't get the point.

MAMI: Eh, wait, wait. Ehー!?

RINA: What is it?

MAMI: "By the way, the cafe's concept is a demon world."

Staff note: The message theme for the live broadcast special was "Mayonaka no Hisohisobanashi" (Whispered Conversations/Secrets In the Middle of the Night). Among theme, we received a message from a father who goes to "concafes" (concept/themed cafes) within the range of his pocket money. We also received a song request from him for KEYTALK's "MONSTER DANCE, which he enjoys talking about with an employee. However, the requests we were looking for were for the purpose of "sending it to someone special," and since it's not a song that people at the concafe were excited about, it was a huge hit in the live broadcast studio. We were curious about what kind of concafes there actually were, but since our time slot was up, we had to end the episode without finding out. After the live broadcast ended, we received a message.

All: Ehーーーー!!

TOMOMI: I'm curious!

RINA: You're kidding, right?

TOMOMI: Is there a cafe based on the concept of a demon world?

HARUNA: The demon world??

MAMI: Yes, a demon world cafe.

RINA: Would it be really dark?

MAMI: Do you talk with demons?

TOMOMI: Is there a demon king or something?

RINA: Ehー, really?

TOMOMI: Witches and stuff.

HARUNA: (*holds up her phone) If you look up "demon world," the word "concafe" pops up.

TOMOMI: Ehー?

RINA: So it must be popular.

MAMI: How many are there?

TOMOMI: We're going to expose it.

HARUNA: There might only be one of them...

MAMI: Really?

TOMOMI: Then there it is.

MAMI: I hope it's okay with the listener.

TOMOMI: Then that means "MONSTER DANCE" fits the request of "a song for someone special"!

RINA: Yeah.

MAMI: Yeah, it fits.

TOMOMI: Because it's a monster world. I feel like we should apologize.

MAMI: The listener didn't miss the point. No need for them to apologize.

RINA: Thanks for making the episode more exciting.

MAMI: The inhabitants of the demon world love "MONSTER DANCE."

RINA: That's right.

TOMOMI: It really was a "monster cafe."

The live broadcast special program "Mayonaka Catch up" from 2-4 am was also exciting!

Thank you very much for your kind words.

As announced during the live broadcast, we have completed a new novelty item for the program!
It's a pouch again, but this time it's a floppy pouch!
The charm is cute, too!

•The episode starts with this.

•HARU reads the next message from a listener who says they got married this summer. They actually going to break up with their girlfriend, but she proposed to them and they accepted it. Two months later, they quit their job and moved to his now-wife's city. They say that their wife is a school teacher, by the way. There's a pause before the band goes, "No, it's the listener's wife who's the teacher!" and laugh (referencing to how the band always says "Hey! Teacher" when a message is read from someone who's a teacher). TOMO says that the listener shortened the juicy parts a lot. HARU wonders why they wanted to break up. RINA says that they must have thought when she proposed that she was the right person for them after all. MAMI wonders if there was a reason she proposed. HARU brings up how they had moved to her city so it sounds like they were originally in a long-distance relationship, so perhaps the listener wanted to break up for that reason, but then maybe the listener was like, "If we're going to get married, we can live together." They say that they're glad for the listener and congratulate them.

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener who says they can't get over their ex-girlfriend. HARU goes, "There it is." RINA says that there really are a lot of people like them out there (referencing to how many of these kinds of messages they read during the live broadcast). The listener says that she was their girlfriend from middle to high school. It's been almost 15 years since then, and they sometimes still wonder how she's doing. They wonder if it's better to forget about her since she's married. TOMO says that maybe she's their unforgettable love, and it's fine to keep their memories of her, but don't go out of their way to contact her. RINA says that time is already moving forward.

•RINA reads the next message from a listener who says that he has a crush on a junior colleague at work. He's not sure if it would work out or not, but there's actually something he's hiding from her: Her birthday, which she told him about, is the same as his's mother's, as well as their blood type. Their personalities are completely different, though. When he talked to their girl friends about it, they were divided into two types of opinions: one was that it was a miracle and they were destined to be together, and they supported him, while the other was that they thought he might have an Oedipus complex. On top of that, the ones who were taken aback totally rejected the idea of him confessing. That's why he's not sure if he should tell her how he feels. He says they don't have an Oedipus complex, but he was wondering if those kinds of coincidences about the birthday + blood type can happen. There's a pause before they all start laughing and HARU goes, "Wait a minute!" TOMO and HARU ask what the thing he's hiding from the co-worker is. MAMI says it's that her and his mom's birthdays and blood types are the same. TOMO says that's cute while HARU laughs. The band all agree that even if he tells her, she'll probably just be like, "Oh, really?" HARU says that it would have been better if he had said their birthdays were the same when she first told him when hers is. RINA says she probably wouldn't be like, "Ugh, why are you talking about your mother?" TOMO wonders why some friends were opposed to him telling her. RINA says that maybe they were talking about something else, but she also thinks that this kind of topic isn't really one to talk about with girl friends. TOMO acts it out and whispers quietly, "Actually, she has the same birthday as my mom." RINA joins and goes, "I've fallen in love with her." TOMO continues, "What should I do? Their blood type's the same, too." Everyone else laughs while this is happening. TOMO says she doesn't get the point of asking for advice about this. RINA says he probably doesn't need to worry about being rejected for just telling her this. While eating lunch together, he could just be like, "Oh yeah, my mother has the same birthday and blood type as you; that surprised me." TOMO says that this situation is cute. RINA says that it was surprising, though, which they laugh at.

•HARU reads the next message from a listener who says that they have a boyfriend they've been dating for a year. They were in the same group on SCANDAL's Mystery Tour (anniversary event), and they miracuously are the same age and live in the same prefecture. After the event, they went out to dinner and went out many times after that, and then ended up dating each other. She had often gone to concerts and events in the past by herself and didn't have many SCANDAL friends, so she was very happy to be able to connect with the same group during the second Mystery Tour. She and her bf had gone to RINA's exhibition last summer, where RINA asked them where they were going afterwards, and that she recommended Ebisu's atre mall. RINA goes, "I remember that!" The listener says they haven't gone there yet, but they'll go in the future. She also says that they regularly hang out with the same group of friends from the second Mystery Tour but haven't told the others about their relationship yet and have kept it a secret. They say they actually enjoy doing so. They don't have any particular reason for keeping it a secret, but they go to the meeting place separately and leave separately as well, only to meet back up again and hang out as just the two of them. She says she wonders if their group listens to "Catch up" and is nervous about whether or not their relationship will be revealed by the time they meet up with them again at BEST Xmas (which was 6 days after this episode aired). The band says that's nice. TOMO says that secret love is nice. HARU thinks that the friends must listen to this program, which the others agree with. MAMI says that they're using "Catch up" to have fun with this. TOMO says that Ono's suggestion (he was the MC at the second tour) that people on the same group make a group chat on LINE has resulted in the birth of several couples. The band says that's awesome. TOMO says that he's changed peoples' lives. They also say that it's nice that groups are still meeting up even a year and a half later.

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener who is a middle school teacher (All: "Hey! Teacher"), and says that they have a little something they want to brag about. when they were in college, they had a Chinese friend at their part-time job who could only speak a little bit of Japanese. They wanted to get to know them better, so they learned Chinese from them. This year, which was three years after they met, the listener took and passed the level 2 Chinese Proficiency Test. They say they think it's a pretty good result for someone who learned Chinese pretty loosely from a friend, and realized that the desire to get along and communicate with others is one of powers of speech. The band says that's impressive, and there's no need for it to be a secret; they should be proud. They also say that Chinese is really difficult, including the pronunciation. RINA says that she's sure it's because they had a friend like that that made it fun for them to study, but also because of their own efforts. TOMO says it's hard to stick with something if you don't like it. Ono mentions something most likely about boasting being something more like a secret. The band agrees and says that it's hard to be boastful outloud, so a theme of secrets makes it easy for people to send these kinds of messages in.

•Before the next message is read, Ono says that they had received the most messages about this next kind of topic. MAMI reads the next message from a listener who says they're currently in a dilemma between two senior employees at their company. They work with one of them for almost the entire day, but both of them keep complaining and whining about the same things in their conversations with the listener, which is causing them a lot of stress. It's the two employees' own matter, so the listener is like, "This is not my problem." Ono says that a lot of messages were about this kind of "Not my problem/How should I know?" topic. RINA says that there's a chance it could make things hard for the person who doesn't want to be bothered by the problem, which is why human relationships can be difficult among people who work for companies. The band basically says it's great that the listener has that kind of mentally to say that they don't care, and to keep that kind of spirit. They then say that they really enjoy this message theme and will likely read messages for it another time in the future, although not necessarily for another late-night live broadcast.

•They then close out the episode. They say it's currently 4:30 am and that they worked hard to record 3 episodes of the program today. HARU says that on the contrary, she doesn't know if she'll be able to go to sleep when she gets back home and is a little worried, but says that this was a lot of fun. The others agree and they say they'd love to do this again.

Following SCANDAL's "BEST☆Xmas 2023" where they became Morning Musume., which they always longed for!

Season 2, Episode 39 blog

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 V5ralnm

HARUNA: This is the last "Catch up" episode of 2023.

All: Oh!

HARUNA: So, we will be bringing it to you in "three forms."

RINA: "Three forms"?

HARUNA: That's right.

TOMOMI: "Three forms" sounds like a single, like Limited Edition A or B.

HARUNA: Based on our Christmas event "BEST Xmas," which took place yesterday, the 24th, we will jump through time and space.

RINA: I see.

MAMI: That's kind of amazing, but what do you mean?

HARUNA: We are recording this now, before BEST Xmas. It hasn't started yet.

RINA: I mean, it's only November right now.

HARUNA: Yes, it is November right now. We're recording this episode way in advance but we'll be talking about how excited we are for BEST Xmas.

MAMI: Hmm? That means everything has already been released, right? BEST Xmas is over, in the eyes of the world.

RINA: Yes. In a sense, spoilers are okay.

HARUNA: Yes. For those of you who are listening, BEST Xmas is over, too. However, we don't know if we did it well or not. At this point in time, we don't know if we've done it right.

RINA: Well, we have a lot of things planned.

HARUNA: I don't know if we've done what we're thinking and thinking about right now...

MAMI: But that's okay. That's part of the "now" (*November).

TOMOMI: ...Morning Musume. How was itー??

MAMI: How was itー!!

TOMOMI: How was itー!? Everyone!

MAMI: How were the first three songs of BEST Xmas!?

TOMOMI: How was it? It's also been a while since Dobondobondo came to Japanー

MAMI: Hmm? I mean, it would be nice if they came to Japan.

TOMOMI: Eh, they might not be coming to Japan... They are supposed to, though.

RINA: One of the major differences of this year's BEST Xmas is that we completely changed the structure of the event. Usually there's a dance segment in the middle of the show, but this year we danced at the beginning. It was very different.

MAMI: When people came into the venue, they probably thought the band set was different from usual....

RINA: I wonder what the set is like. There was talk of going without a band set, but...

HARUNA: Didn't we decide to go with it?

RINA: We did, huh.

MAMI: We decided that there wouldn't be mics.

HARUNA: Just the mics removed (*put on the wings of the stage)...

TOMOMI: We left the change of clothes on stage.

MAMI: Anyway, it's a different scene from what's usually seen.

HARUNA: There are no mics, after all.

RINA: Do you think they'll notice that?

HARUNA: I don't know.

RINA: I wondr...

TOMOMI: With or without mics...

MAMI: They don't know??

TOMOMI: You have to be aware of it...

MAMI: Really??

TOMOMI: I don't know.

RINA: But there must be people who are aware something's off, I'm sure. They'll realize something is different.

MAMI: I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's reactions to this year's BEST Xmas.

•The episode starts with this.

•RINA says that the band set will start after opening with 3 dance songs, and that the the pacing will be totally different from usual, physically. MAMI thinks that they'll be exhausted from the start. HARU agrees that that's totally possible. RINA says that dancing and performing band songs are completely different from each other. HARU says they more or less no longer know how to pace dancing anymore. TOMO says that there will be gaps between songs for them to rest, such as the raffle drawing and the MCs. RINA says that their Morning Musume. costumes just arrived at their office today and they're deciding on the sizing. HARU says that there's about a month left until rehearsals start. RINA says that rehearsals seem like they'll be tough. HARU says that they're tough every year. TOMO says that it'll be even more tough this year since they have the cover song at the start. At the end of rehearsals, they always do a final check of the opening + first song, but they've never had BEST Xmas start with a dance song before. HARU says that they won't be checking instruments for it, after all. TOMO says that this is the first time this has happened in 17 years. The band also says that they hope the concert's a lot of fun and that they're excited for it. They also say that currently, they're working really hard at recording songs [for their new album] and are on a really tight schedule, which is why they're recording this episode in November. RINA says that it's the busiest they've ever been, and that they're working really hard right now. HARU then says that the next thing that you'll hear is audio of them during BEST Xmas rehearsals.

•The next audio starts with them on December 20, the second day of rehearsals. HARU says that rehearsals are going pretty good. RINA says that they're dividing up the dance song and band song rehearsals. HARU asks how things are going right now. RINA says that the setlist has unchanged since the time the previous audio was recorded, and they're still working out details and any costume changes. HARU says that she doesn't think there will be any changes at this point, which the others agree with. RINA says that the band songs are set and ready to go. TOMO says that it's unusual that they have it all set on just the second day of rehearsals. HARU mentions that they'll be playing "Taiyou Scandalous" for the first time in a while, and that she was surprised that the lyrics span 2 pages when typed out. RINA says you can really tell it's a song of its era. TOMO says it's a fun song. RINA says that it also has a lot of power. HARU wonders what else there is to mention. RINA says they'll also be playing "Switch." TOMO says it's been a while since they last played that live as well. RINA says it's a really good song for winter time.

•HARU says that they've been working super hard to remember the dance for the first song. RINA says that her muscles are really sore and her body hurts a lot. HARU says that you use muscles that you don't usually use. RINA says that she doesn't get sore muscles when playing songs, but she doesn't have any dance muscles anymore. Staffer Kawai asks them what song they're talking about. HARU says it's "Renai Revolution 21." RINA wonders if this is the most they've ever danced to a song for BEST Xmas. HARU says it might be. TOMO wonders if "Glass no Shounen" (performed at BEST Xmas 5 in 2013) might be the top one instead. RINA also wonders about "SHAKE" (performed at BEST Xmas 2 in 2010). HARU doesn't think they danced that much for it. She then mentions their Shuji to Akira cover ("Seishun Amigo" performed at BEST Xmas 3 in 2011) and they all start laughing. RINA says it was like an acrobatic segment. TOMO wonders if all of them did it. HARU says that only she and MAMI did it. MAMI goes, "Me??" RINA says they jumped over a vaulting box-like thing at the end. TOMO goes, "Oh my god, that's so gross!" They all laugh. HARU says the ending is why it was so hard to dance to that song. RINA says that the dancing for the song they're doing this year is almost a perfect copy of the original. HARU agrees and says that this song came out when she was in elementary school and she used to dance to it all the time. That's why she still remembers it a bit to this day. TOMO agrees that you never really forget a song you've learned.

•RINA says that every year she's amazed at how fast the other three can learn a dance. MAMI says that it doesn't seem that way at all. RINA says that it takes her about 10 times longer for her to learn, and that each of their dance histories differ. She can really feel that difference every year. MAMI says that something like a three-year difference may be a big one. RINA says that she only had about 2 months of dance training (since she joined the band pretty much right after joining Caless). TOMO is surprised and asks if that's true. RINA says yes, and that's why the other 3 impress her. HARU says that she has been dancing lately again. MAMI says each year it's getting harder and harder to remember what she learned. TOMO says she doesn't think dancers these days will ever be able to always remember dances from this current era. HARU says that she thinks the muscles used are totally different (from then compared to now). RINA says that it also depends on the era, and that music as well as bands are amazing. Songs now may have the same length as ones from the past, but there are a lot more songs that don't have intros anymore. HARU says that it also depends on the way people listen to a song. RINA thinks it's awesome that this convo is now about music. HARU goes back to the BEST Xmas topic and says that it's the first time they won't be playing instruments for the first 3 songs, and that it'll be quite exhausting. Kawai is surprised to hear that they're dancing to 3 songs. HARU says that it's not so much dancing but singing with handheld mics.

•TOMO then brings up how Dobondobondo and wonders how many years it's been since they were last seen. RINA thinks it's been 8 or 9 years. HARU goes, "That long??" MAMI says she's sure there are people who don't know about them. Kawai says that it's her first time hearing about them. TOMO explains that the unit called Dobondobondo is coming to Japan from New York, for the first time in almost 10 years. There's a pause before Kawai laughs and the others chuckle. HARU adds that they're going to perform at BEST Xmas. Kawai goes, "Wow!" and that it's crazy they're playing for the first time in that long. There's another pause and Kawai laughs again. RINA says that they're putting her on the spot, which they all laugh at. Kawai goes, "I'm like, 'Who is that?'" They laugh again. RINA says the band has sure done a lot of things. TOMO says that she listened to the song they're performing again ("Dobondobondo no Theme") and thought that they were really cool. MAMI agrees. RINA asks if the song was produced by (the comedian) Masahiro Ehara. TOMO says yes, and that's where Dobondobondo's music career started from. HARU says that they disappeared suddenly. TOMO says it was due to rights issues (lol probably hinting that it was due to Epic/Sony). RINA says that she's glad they played around a lot with music in their 20s. They then say that they'll keep working hard during rehearsals tomorrow and the day after. RINA goes, "Good luck, me!"

•The last and final audio played is of SCANDAL right after BEST Xmas has ended. The band says they worked really hard. RINA thinks it was a huge success, which the others agree with. HARU and RINA say both the band and the audience were really focused today. HARU says although they started the concert with a completely different flow from usual, the audience was really exicted. She and RINA say it was like an explosion. TOMO goes, "We will never be performing 'Renai Revolution 21' ever again!" They all laugh. HARU says they did a good job. RINA says this was their first and last time performing it. TOMO says that their staff did a great job on the costumes. Ono says that they danced really well. RINA says she's happy to hear that and thanks him. HARU says that RINA did practice pretty hard and practiced for several hours each day. RINA says that her muscles really hurt. HARU says that when they recorded the earlier audio during rehearsals, they rehearsed a bit more, and after that, RINA stayed behind and practiced for 2 more hours. TOMO says she's glad they worked hard. MAMI says it was perfect. HARU says it was fun.

•Ono then mentions Dobondobondo. TOMO says that it's been hard for Dobondobondo to appear again due to rights issues (which she mentioned earlier). HARU says that applies to any new songs as well. They have 4 songs (Dobondobondo no Theme, Cherry Jam, Sekapero, Dobondobondo no Dungeon), and if they were to put out a 5th one, they'd need to find someone to write it because Dobondobondo doesn't get invovled in the production or anything like that. They laugh at this. RINA says that it's a big day that happens once in a decade (that DDD makes an appearance).

•Ono next mentions something inaudible about "Switch" and "CANDY." MAMI says it had been a long time since they last performed "Switch." HARU and MAMI say they're glad they played it. TOMO wonders when was the last time they played it. HARU says she has no idea. RINA says it's been so long that they can't remember when it was (it was on their 47-prefecture tour back in 2017 lol). TOMO says it still feels right at home when they play it now. They say that it's a good song.

•Then, Ono mentions the "M-1 Grand Prix 2023" (contest where comedians compete to win first place). They laugh and TOMO says not to mention anything about it. Ono says that the last episode is currently going on as they speak. He brings up the feature on Natalie where TOMO and RINA talked about their top 3 predictions and asks if it's okay for SCANDAL to have relationships with comedians. The band laughs and HARU says they'll see what happens next year. TOMO says they're having fun just being viewers and that it was really hard to choose their top 3 predictions because they're all so hilarious. RINA says she was really nervous to pick them. TOMO says the same. They say they're looking forward to see who wins.

•Next, they say that they announced they're releasing their new album LUMINOUS on March 20 and also going on tour on support of it. HARU says they've been working really hard on it, and that she hopes people listen to it a lot since it's truly an album that's filled with who they are right now. RINA says it's going to make everyone feel all cheerful and bright, so she hopes everyone will look forward to it. She also says that they'll be talking a lot about the details on "Catch up" in time. They then talk about the tour that'll consist of 19 performances. TOMO says it's been a while since they've done that many performances on a tour. They say they'll do their best. Ono mentions that Kawai is from Okayama, which is one of the places they're going to, and she might try going to the concert there. TOMO says that they had planned to go there on their KFTD tour but couldn't. She says she also has relatives there. Kawai says she'll go if she can join them. The band says she's welcome to. To close out this part, HARU says they worked hard this year, did many things, and are very satisfied. They thank their fans for another year and say that BEST Xmas was awesome.

•They then close out the episode by returning to audio of SCANDAL from November. They laugh and say they're jumping around too much, and wonder if each section did connect to each other. MAMI says that although this is being recorded in November, the episode will be out on Christmas Day - they then say Merry Christmas. HARU says this is the last episode of 2023 and the next one will be out in 2024. HARU says they should look back on this year and say a few words. They say they released 2 singles, went on tour, held the first signing events, went to Brazil. HARU says they did work pretty hard this year. TOMO says that they performed at more events than usual. MAMI goes, "We got a Guinness World Record!" The others laugh and say they forgot about that. MAMI says it's all thanks to their fans. HARU says it was a dense year. TOMO says this year was one where she couldn't believe that there were 365 days in it. They say to look forward to their album. They also say that this is apparently the 199th episode overall for "Catch up," with next week's episode (January 1st) being the 200th one.

HARUNA: Happy...

All: New Year!

HARUNA: Best regards in 2024 as well!

All: Thanks!

HARUNA: The first "Catch up" episode of the New Year is miracuously out on New Year's Day!

MAMI: That's awesome.

HARUNA: And it's the commemorable 200th episode overall!

All: Wow!

HARUNA: Do these kinds of coincidences actually happen?

TOMOMI: It's amazing.

RINA: It is.

HARUNA: As for season 2, this is the 40th episode of it. Well, we have been doing this for a long time. Thank you very much.

All: Thank you very much!

HARUNA: We hope to continue to enjoy bringing you this program this year as well. So the saying goes, "The whole year's plans should be made on New Year's Day"... We will each announce our New Year's resolutions. But before that, we actually announced our New Year's resolutions last year too... Do you guys remember them??

RINA: I wonder what I said...

TOMOMI: I don't remember... I wonder.

MAMI: I don't remember at all...

HARUNA: And we each set three New Year's resolutions.

TOMOMI: Three!?

RINA: Ehー? What did I say...

HARUNA: I remember one of mine.

MAMI: Wow, that's admirable.

TOMOMI: You mean we did three per person??

HARUNA: Yes. We gave them as 3 bullet points.

RINA: We did.

TOMOMI: Did we do that?

HARUNA: I think we wrote them down in sketchbooks.

TOMOMI: Oh... I really don't remember any of them.

RINA: I wish I could remember!

Staff: Let's look back at last year's resolutions. Let's start with HARUNA.

HARUNA: Resolutions for 2023:
1. Exercise a little more
2. Go to bed early
3. Travel

HARUNA: I pretty much did all of those!

TOMOMI: Wow!

HARUNA: For 1, "exercise a little more," I started Pilates last year. For 2, "go to bed earlier," I'm not sure... I think I go to bed earlier than the rest of the band.

RINA: What time do you go to bed?

HARUNA: 1 am or so...

RINA: That's early!

MAMI: That is! That's great!

RINA: That's early.

HARUNA: It's early, isn't it? I think that's earlier than everyone else. As for 3, "travel," I have done a lot of traveling--or rather, I've traveled a lot to see concerts of my favorite artists.

RINA: I see.

TOMOMI: Well, it does count as traveling. You're going to a different place.

RINA: Then that's cleared.

HARUNA: Oh, I think I cleared my resolutions.

All: Wow, good for you! (*applause)

HARUNA: I totally forgot about these "resolutions."

TOMOMI: That's fine.

HARUNA: I see - 2023 was a fulfilling year.
Now, let's look back at TOMOMI's three resolutions for 2023.

Staff: Next, TOMOMI.

TOMOMI's resolutions for 2023
"Cut back on pressing the snooze button on her alarm"

TOMOMI: "Cut back on snoozing"??

HARUNA: ...that's it??

TOMOMI: Eh? Eh? That's not three!

MAMI: And you were able to cut back?

TOMOMI: (*looks at her phone) Let's take a look...

(*A huge amount of "snooze" presses stored in her phone)

RINA: Oh, wow...

MAMI: Wow... I'm the same.

TOMOMI: There's still a lotー

•The episode starts with this.

•HARU asks TOMO what her snooze increments are. TOMO says 5 minutes, but there are 1-minute ones as well. MAMI seemingly looks at her phone and laughs, saying she's the same with 5 minutes. She seems to show the others and they laugh too. TOMO says that she doesn't know why there are alarms set for certain times. HARU says she doesn't get why there are night alarms. MAMI asks what she's talking about. HARU says that there are some set for 11 pm and wonders why. TOMO says there's one for 11:57 pm, for some reason. MAMI laughs and says she has one for 11:06 pm and has no idea why. HARU bursts out laughing. TOMO says has no idea for hers either.

•Next are MAMI's resolutions: Build up her stamina, improve her quality of sleep, cook more. HARU and TOMO ask her how it went. MAMI says that she's continued to go to the gym for physical fitness and tries to go to training at least once a week when she can. For quality of sleep, she says she changed her pillow to one that stabilizes her neck. TOMO asks if she can sleep better now. MAMI says that rather than sleep better, she can now sleep anywhere. They laugh and say that probably means her quality of sleep isn't very good, then. MAMI says it's not, and that she's still continuing to sleep on the floor as well as the sofa. As for cooking, she says that she made some leftover stuff herself today and drank mystery soup. TOMO laughs at the mystery soup. She also says that MAMI's been making oatmeal a lot. MAMI says she has, but as far as doing stuff like cutting up vegetables [for meals], she doesn't do it very often. She gives herself a C for fulfilling her resolutions, which they all laugh at. RINA says that's not bad.

•Lastly, RINA's resolutions: Travel alone, drive to a slightly far away destination, continue doing Pilates. RINA says that she didn't travel alone. HARU says that it was kind of hard to do in 2023 (since they were busy all year round). As for driving slightly far away, RINA says that she fulfilled that, if you count the length of time she drove. HARU laughs and asks where she drove to. RINA says she still hasn't driven out of the Tokyo area because she's still scared to. MAMI asks if she's driven on the highway before. RINA says she has but has never gone that far, and that in 2024 she'd like to go outside of the Tokyo area. HARU laughs at this. MAMI says that maybe she could try aiming to go outside of the Kanto region. TOMO says that driving within Tokyo is the most difficult thing to do, which is why she thinks it might be easier to leave it. RINA says that she's so scared to drive in the city that she starts to think that she won't be able to go back home if she goes any further. HARU asks if she then turns around at that point. RINA says she does. HARU asks if she ever found herself driving outside of the prefecture before she realized it. RINA says no, and that she's hopeless. HARU says that she should drive to somewhere like Hakone. TOMO says that she could also take a solo trip that way. HARU also suggests Yokohama. RINA says that she'll try for Yokohama. As for Pilates, she says that she is still continuing to do it.

•Now, based on last year's resolutions, they're to make new resolutions for 2024 and use sketchbooks to write them down. As HARU flips through her book, she says that there's a lot of "Catch up" history in it. MAMI finds a page in hers that says "A wonderful encounter" and wonders who wrote it. HARU finds something else in hers and says that a staffer's daughter must have used it. They all laugh. Ono also laughs and says it's a waste to not use a sketchbook, which the band agrees with. They continue to think about what resolutions to write down. MAMI and TOMO in particular seem to be having a hard time coming up with some. MAMI then laughs and goes, "What does 'houfu' (抱負; resolution, aspiration) even mean??" The others laugh and HARU agrees that they say it like it's obvious, but they don't know the origin of the word. MAMI looks up the meaning and says it means "The plans you have in your heart." They continue to think/write. MAMI says that she has one written down. HARU does as well. After another pause with TOMO going "Hmm...", RINA laughs and says she seems really torn. They all laugh. HARU says that this is probably the most troubled she's seen her. RINA says that surprisingly, it's important to say something in words at the beginning of the year. HARU says that even if you don't remember it after a year, you're probably still mindful of it. HARU then asks how many they've written. MAMI says two.

•They then read their resolutions. HARU goes first and only has one: Save money. Ono laughs and goes, "What?" HARU says she's really bad at saving money. RINA laughs and says that she does seem terrible at it. HARU says that she's always gone too far with what she wants. She wants what she wants. She wants to eat what she wants to eat. She probably can't hold herself back. RINA says, "But isn't it awesome to be able to live without doing that?" HARU says that's true, but now that she's 35, she feels like she needs to be a little more mature about it. MAMI goes, "What if you died tomorrow?" There's a pause before HARU laughs and says, "Well..." The others laugh too. TOMO goes, "It's just a resolution!" MAMI says that's true and apologizes. HARU says that it'd be fine if she died tomorrow because it means she has no regrets, but when she thinks about her future and her parents, for example... RINA asks if that means she's spent money without thinking about it much. HARU says yes. RINA says that she's trying to change her way of thinking about spending and saving money. HARU says yes, and that she thinks there are things she needs to do more properly as an adult. MAMI says that's very commendable. Ono mentions something kind of inaudible about 500 yen (something about coins?). MAMI says she keeps coin change in a pouch. RINA says that there are less and less times when you actually do use cash nowadays. MAMI says that it's kind of a bad thing, since it's so easy to just spend using electronic methods. HARU says she totally gets that. RINA laughs and says that they should be careful.

•Next is TOMO, who wrote 3 resolutions: Stop eating fast, increase muscle mass, reduce hitting the snooze button. They all laugh at the last one. MAMI says she's continuing with that one. TOMO says that she wants to stop eating fast, and RINA says that she does eat really fast. TOMO says she swallows without chewing much and wants to stop doing that because it definitely must not be good for her. For the second one, TOMO says she has no muscle mass at all. Sometimes she can't even open a bottle or jar at home and she feels sad when that happens. RINA laughs and says it seems like it'd be really hard to develop muscles into open a bottle. The others laugh and HARU goes, "Which would they even be?" TOMO says that not having much muscle mass at her age also makes her think about the future, which she and the others laugh at. HARU says she's saving up muscles. MAMI asks her about doing strength training. TOMO says she hates doing that. The others laugh. RINA says you do need to work hard when doing that kind of training. TOMO says she'll try building muscle in a non-strength training way.

•TOMO then mentions the snooze resolution. RINA asks if that means to cut back on the number of times she hits the snooze button. TOMO says the cut back number of times she hits the snooze button, which is in 5-minute increments. She says she'll hit it 4 or 5 or 6 times. MAMI says she totally gets that, which makes TOMO laugh. TOMO says she if she's able to get up the first time the alarm goes off, then she won't hit the snooze 5+ times after that. HARU asks if that actually stresses her out instead, since she gets woken up over and over again. TOMO says when she wakes up for the first time, it makes her go, "Oh, and I still sleep like five more times." They all laugh. MAMI again says she totally gets that, and if she needs to get up at 6 am, she'll set alarms that'll go off between 5:30 and 6. So she'll be like, "Oh, I can still sleep for another 30 minutes." The others laugh. TOMO says she wants to quit doing that. Ono says something about reducing the snooze button presses down by 1 right now. TOMO seems to agree, but then HARU goes, "One less now won't make any difference at all!", which makes them all laugh. TOMO says she knows what to do now, and before she goes to the gym in the morning, she'll have to get ready to go before she goes to bed at night (so she doesn't need to spend time doing so in the morning). HARU says it's like a reminder. TOMO says she's basically reduced her snoozing by one now, which they laugh at.

•Next is MAMI, who wrote down 3 resolutions: Stop sleeping on the floor, start playing a game, stop eating while doing something. She says she started 2023 from sleeping on the floor, but has been trying to reduce her time sleeping on the floor by doing these three steps: She starts off from sleeping on the floor and then realizes she shouldn't be doing that, so then she sleeps on the couch but realizes she also shouldn't be doing that, so then she goes and sleeps in her bed. So in 2024, she's going to stop sleeping on the floor and start off from sleeping on the couch. The others laugh and RINA goes, "Not the bed, huh?" For the second resolution about playing games, she says she's been really enjoying watching comedian Eiko Kano's YouTube videos about gameplay recently that it's been making her want to start playing some games herself. She also wants to try making gameplay videos. She used to think that you had to talk the entire time you're playing/filming, but after learning it's okay to be quiet or not talk at all, she'd like to try doing it.

•MAMI then talks about her third resolution, which is to stop eating while doing something. She says that after she wakes up and brushes her teeth, washes her face, does her skincare routine, does her hair/makeup, she always starts eating breakfast at the same time. The others are really surprised at this. RINA asks if this means she doesn't sit down while eating. MAMI says that she basically only stands up while eating. TOMO asks if she eats while she still has stuff like skincare cream on her hands. MAMI says that she does eat with chopsticks, though. TOMO asks if she'll keep doing that, having stuff like cream on her hands while continuing to eat. MAMI says yes. TOMO says that sounds like a hassle. HARU agrees. MAMI says that she feels the time spent on eating is wasted in the morning. The others chuckle and HARU says she does understand that. MAMI then says that she'll often eat straight from something like the rice cooker or a pot. This also surprises the others. MAMI also mentions that she'll stand while eating from these as well. They laugh and RINA goes, "Isn't it really hot?" TOMO and RINA ask if she eats the food with a scoop/ladle. MAMI says there are times she does that. The others laugh. RINA points out that she does this in spite of being bad with hot foods. MAMI says that she blows on it while eating, and that her tongue is currently really burnt. They laugh hard at this and HARU says she should definitely stop doing that. TOMO says it would definitely be more efficient if she took the time to eat normally. MAMI says that she doesn't have time to, since there's no time in the hour she has between getting up and getting out of the house, and trying to also get ready in that same time frame. HARU says that sounds like a pain, and that she's also skilled. MAMI says that she doesn't sit down while eating. RINA says that that's definitely something you can only do if you live alone. TOMO says you could only live with other people who think the same. MAMI reiterates that she wants to stop eating while doing something, and says that it feels like she hasn't eaten when she does that. The others laugh hard at this. RINA says this is all so amusing. MAMI says she doesn't feel like she's eaten but has eaten everything on her plate (or pot? lol). RINA says that she thought MAMI was talking about snacking on stuff during recording sessions or the like. HARU says that it's actually on a higher level, which they laugh at. MAMI says that she eats while doing things that are essential to her life. HARU asks if this only happens in the morning. MAMI says it's mostly in the morning. RINA says that it would seem harder to do at night. MAMI says that the band often has dinner together at night, like when they're recording and they're more likely to sit down and have a meal together. RINA says they had no idea about this aspect of MAMI. MAMI says she'll be careful, which makes RINA laugh.

•Lastly, RINA reads her 3 resolutions: Using her time in a new way, go see a bunch of comedy duo Diane's performances, take a break from social media. She says she thinks it's wonderful that she's been able to spend each each season basically the same way for the past 17 years, but around the time they got their world record in 2023, she realized she'd like to try a different way of spending her time. For example, she started to think after their anniversaries and BEST Xmas that she'd be okay if she just passed away after them, which she and HARU chuckle at. RINA says that it's not that she wants to stop doing things like that, but she'd like to do something in addition to them, or have some kind of change before/after them. HARU clarifies to ask if RINA's talking about things for herself. RINA says yes, and that she doesn't want things to change for the band. For the second resolution, RINA says she was energized by Diane's comedy in 2023 and it helped her get through the year, so she's looking foward for it to be a part of 2024 as well. HARU says that's a good thing. For the third resolution, RINA says she's been tyring to be conscious of constantly updating her social media accounts, such as her blog and YouTube channel, and although she thinks it's still important for her to do, she's also starting to think it might be a good idea to make some changes in the way she uses her time. She says because your time is limited, it's really important to try different things, make changes, and use some time for yourself. HARU closes out the segment by saying that they don't know whether or not they'll remember their resolutions at the end of the year, but they'll do their best.

Announcing the HARUNA and MAMI categories of the Catch up Power Word Awards 2023!!

Season 2, Episode 41 blog

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 GbIYf24

HARUNA: Though the New Year has already begun, we'll be looking back on 2023 with this annual segment: "SCANDAL Catch up Power Word Awards 2023!"

All: Yayー!

TOMOMI: But I feel like we just did them the other day... The "Power Word Awards."

RINA: Seriously

HARUNA: One year goes by fast... That means a year has passed.

MAMI: So fast.

HARUNA: Things such as members' memorable comments, touching comments, etc.--those "Power Words" will be featured in the form of awards. This is the third one since 2021. The awards will be brought to you for two weeks in a row.

RINA: It's a popular annual segment.

HARUNA: It's always a lot of fun...
Let's begin the "Power Word Awards 2023"!
Power Word Award - HARUNA Category
From Season 2, Episode 8!
HARUNA's Power Word came up when we played RINA's style of "Guupaa" (an offshoot of rock-paper-scissors, but you either throw out rock or paper, and whoever does matching signs are paired up) in deciding the pairs for upcoming episodes. From the 2024:43 mark.

MAMI: Hmm?? Wait a minute, wait a minute! Did you just say "2024 minutes"?

HARUNA: ...eh, did I?

MAMI: Wait, wait, you said that!

All: (*laughs*)

HARUNA: This should be the first candidate for the 2024 "Power Word Awards"...

TOMOMI: It's already happened!

HARUNA: Anyway! Please listen to Season 2, Episode 8 at around the 24:43 minute mark!

(*Archive plays)

HARUNA: ...The next episodes will be pair ones, which we haven't done in a while. Last time it was the "HARU+MAMI" pair and the "TOMO+RINA" pair. What should we do next?

MAMI: How did we decide last time?

HARUNA: I wonder...

RINA: Did we do "Guupaa" or something?

HARUNA: I don't remember.

MAMI: I don't remember.

RINA: Something like that?

TOMOMI: What do you think? Guupaa?

RINA: Let's try it.

MAMI: Yeah.

RINA: Who'll do the "Guupaa"? Is it okay if I do it?

HARUNA: Yepー

RINA: Let's split up with Guupaa, ding-dong!

HARUNA: Eh, you say "ding-dong" for it??

RINA: How many times are we doing Guupaa...

HARUNA: Because there are regional differences! The only person I've met who says "Ding-dong!" for it is RINA.

MAMI: "Ding-dong!" is fine!

RINA: Let's split up with Guupaa, ding-dong!

All: We're paired up.

HARUNA: So, the "HARU+TOMO" pair and the "RINA+MAMI" pia...

MAMI: "Pia"!

HARUNA: We're grateful to "Pia" (the name of a Japanese ticketing service), though...

→Returning to the studio

All: (*Burst of laughter)

HARUNA: I remember that!

MAMI: Pia! I wonder if that can be surpassed...

TOMOMI: "RINA+MAMI" pia... It was too influenced by the "ding-dong" during Guupaa before that.

RINA: You're right.

HARUNA: "SCANDAL Catch up Power Word Awards 2023"!
The HARUNA Category was the "HARU+TOMO" pair and "RINA+MAMI" pia.

RINA: This is really strong...

HARUNA: It's very strong... I thought I came up with a pretty good one myself.

MAMI: You were going for a "Power Word," I see.

RINA: You're very aware of it all.

『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Season 2, Episode 41

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 N6PPJrD
Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 CaZZqqN

•The episode starts with this.

•HARU then reads that the next one they'll be doing is the second one in the HARUNA category. She's surprised that there are at least two for her category (since they've only done one per member in past years). Ono says that there are two for every member, which surprises the band. The second one for HARU is from Season 2, Episode 24 from the 3:18 mark, where they read messages for the part-time job message theme ("Arubaito no Naka de Bokura Zutto"): "Are we energy vampires?" The band laughs at this. HARU says that they have been around for 17 years, after all. Ono mentions how all the Power Words were selected by the listeners, and MAMI laughs and says they don't want to take away everyone's luck. TOMO says they'll only take away luck from stores, which they all laugh at.

•Next up are MAMI's Power Words. The first one is from Episode 148 from the 27:40 mark where MAMI says she wants to improve the quality of her sleep: "I can't fall asleep unless I kill my eyes by playing games." MAMI laughs at how Ono laughed hard when she said that during that episode. TOMO says he sounded like a demon king. They laugh and say he sounded scary. MAMI says that she still continues to kill her eyes by gaming. HARU asks if her tendency of sleeping on the floor is a result of her killing her eyes. MAMI says it tends to go like this: She sleeps on the floor; then she goes, "Ah, I shouldn't be sleeping on the floor. I'll watch TV"; then she falls asleep again on the floor; then she goes, "Ah, I need to get up" and moves to the sofa; then she starts watching [comedian] Eiko Kano's gaming videos on YouTube; then she falls asleep; then she goes, "Ah, I need to get up" and moves to the bed, where she further kills her eyes and then sleeps. She also mentions how she's been hooked on watching mukbang videos recently, and falls asleep listening to ASMR of eating sounds. HARU says that MAMI is always playing something. MAMI says that that's true, and that she doesn't actually watch TV programs and such on her TV, but she does need to have something on as background music. She says that she might be the type of person who can't sleep unless something's playing in the background.

•The second one is from Episode 158 from the 8:11 mark where a message from a male listener is read who says that they're in love with a junior colleague of the same sex: "My Melody says that if you keep those feelings in the treasure box, then they'll keep accumulating a lot of sparkles." The clip that was played was rather long--about 6 minutes--and after it was played, the band laughs and says that was really long. They also laugh at how MAMI's Power Words were actually words that My Melody had originally said. TOMO says that MAMI revealed her love for Sanrio for the first time during this episode. MAMI says that she started getting really into Sanrio around February 2023, which Ono says was around the time Episode 158 was recorded/came out. MAMI says she's really drawn to things like Sanrio's corporate philosophy and their characters' mentality. Although My Melody's radio program isn't airing right now, MAMI says that you can listen to past episodes of it on the program's Audee page and wants everyone to listen to at least one episode because she thinks it'll really you them up and perhaps solve all your problems. She also says that she goes to Puroland a lot and told My Melody in person that she always listens to her radio program, and that My Melody's always working hard. My Melody went, "I'll do my best!" and did a pose for MAMI, which made her cry. They all laugh at this.

•They close out the segment and episode by saying they had forgotten they said all this, and that all the words chosen were good. TOMO's and RINA's Power Words will be revealed in next week's episode.

Season 2, Episode 42 blog

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 9bb8sYo

HARUNA: Continuing from the last episode. Though the New Year has already begun, we'll be looking back on 2023 with this annual segment: "SCANDAL Catch up Power Word Awards 2023!", part 2!

All: (*Applause)

HARUNA: Things such as members' memorable comments, touching comments, etc.--those "Power Words" will be featured in the form of awards. This is the third one since 2021. We will now present the second part.

TOMOMI: Last time, we introduced HARUNA's and MAMI's Power Words of 2023.

RINA: They were good. Yeah, they were goodー

MAMI: Thank you...

HARUNA: Starting from this year, we'll be doing two "Power Words" apiece.

TOMOMI: Two for each person.

HARUNA: What kind of "Power Words" will we get this time...
Let's get started and introduce the "Power Word Awards 2023!"
Power Word Award - TOMOMI Category
TOMOMI's Power Word came up while reading a message from a listener who saw SCANDAL perform at Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall.

All: We remember this one!

MAMI: This is indeed an insane one!

RINA: I can't listen to it!

HARUNA: Please listen from around the 4:45 minute mark.

TOMOMI: (*reading the message)...When the event started and we were listening to Nishina, the first performer, sing, a 7-8 cm bee-like insect flew onto the back of a middle-aged man wearing a yellow "Sekai Ichi" t-shirt who was sitting one row in front of us.

On the way home, I asked my husband, "Wasn't SCANDAL cool?" He said, "It was so wonderful! I was surprised to see TOMOMI dancing and playing beautifully. And the flower sitting in front of us..."

All: Flower...!!??

MAMI: It doesn't say "flower," does it?

HARUNA: This is a "Power Word Award" candidate.

TOMOMI: That was my (*reading error) mistake...

MAMI: What did they really write?

TOMOMI: "The flower-man."

MAMI: But the listener is also roasting the guy, right?

RINA: They are, and the husband is too.

→Back to the studio

All: (*laughs hysterically)

HARUNA: This is a strong one!

MAMI: Too strong.

RINA: I just can't. I love this so much.

HARUNA: No matter how many times we listen to it, we always laugh at the same part, so the laughter's doubled.

MAMI: Laughter surround sound.

HARUNA: "SCANDAL Catch up Power Word Awards 2023!"
TOMOMI's category: "The flower sitting in front of us."

MAMI: I wonder if that flower listens to this program.

RINA: I wonder.

TOMOMI: I wonder if they're aware that it's them.

RINA: We're waiting for a message from this "flower"!

HARUNA: Have we received any messages from a "flower"?

Staff: No, we haven't.

HARUNA: We're waiting for a message from this "flower"!
