Why this petition matters

Started by Roshanda Womack

My husband and I are lifelong resident of Flint, Michigan. Our city has wrestled with numerous environmental justice and environmental racism issues over the last 100 years. People here are resilient and strong but we shouldn’t have to continually fight for the right to live. We just like you, are only human beings and can only take so much. The repercussions of abusing our natural resources and environments have already disproportionately been laid on our backs, primarily communities of color. Please stop this asphalt plant from being build in our community which has already suffered too much pain over the last 50 years. There must be some other brownfield space that is away from where people live, work and go to school. Somewhere that would lessen the possibility of people being adversely affected. We don’t want to create another “asthma alley” or “cancer alley” anywhere in our beautiful state. We must also continue to support efforts to find new, cleaner solution to paving and maintaining our road ways.

Our community would love to be granted the proper consideration and opportunity for input in planning prior to new developments being initiated. We needed open and honest community discussion and approval prior to, but in this case, we the people have not had our say.

This development will put people of all ages at risk. Please act quickly to stop this project from moving forward and having a devastating effect on poor, black people.

I join my voice with many other citizens and community leaders, to let you know that we do not agree with allowing the new Ajax Asphalt Plant in Flint, MI to become a reality. We demand that it be stopped immediately!

Thank you for your time and attention in this urgent matter,
