Summary
Remix ⟷ Culture returns with a new exploration of community-rooted music and stories, porting them to the contemporary through audio and visual remix. Once again led by the notion of tanfis, an Arabic word that translates to a cathartic exhalation and liberation of the soul, this year’s iteration brings together a collective of NY-based musicians, storytellers, remix artists, and DJs from diaspora communities of Palestine, Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon.

In September 2023, the artists embarked on a 3-month residency, where they have collaboratively documented and remixed their community-rooted music and stories in traditional and boundary-pushing ways. The culmination of this adventure is a one-of-a-kind 3-hour live experience designed to take the audience on a "tanfis" journey, seamlessly harmonizing the traditional and the remix, acoustic and electronic, deep listening and dance, storytelling and trance, embroidery and video art.

During the Event

Think of Tanfis not just as a concert, but as a multimedia communal journey that will honor everything from the solemn to the celebratory. We will ask attendees to keep talking to a minimum and turn off phones. Most of the show will be seated but we will make room for dancing in the latter portion of the evening. Be sure to stay until the very end, as we will close in a very special way after the dancing.

Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Ticket Options
Regular tickets are $45. For those on a budget, we offer a discounted ticket of $35. And for those who can afford a little extra to support our work, we offer Patron tickets at $55. If you can afford to pay the regular or patron tiers, we would very much appreciate it, but if you are not able to, we hope our programming remains accessible via our discounted tier.
