Tony Allen was an Integral part of development of the genre during the formative years of Fela Kuti’s Africa 70 Band.

He then went on to release ground breaking solo and collaborative albums for the next 40 years .. that helped cement Afrobeat as a worldwide genre. And made him an international drumming icon.

This concert celebrates this body of work with songs from selected eras going back to his 1970’s material .As well as a few special unreleased collaborations with Melbourne based percussionist and producer Zhonu ‘Nui’ Moon , that will debut at this performance .

Nui has assembled a power house of performers for this including: Lucky Pereira on drums  ,Pianist John Mccall Chris Frangou on bass along with members of the Public Opinion Afro Orchestra , vocalist Cazeaux O.S.L.O and NFA Jones.

Ausecuma Beats are more than just a band, they are a philosophy. Led by their fearless bandleader and master djembe player, Boubacar Gaye, the nine-strong ensemble demonstrate what can happen when a group of artists come together based on an idea – in this case, the idea of place, of transplanting cultural heritage into a contemporary city.

Kwabo Events led by the award winning artist Gracieuse Amah also known as Kwabo Grace, is a social enterprise promoting holistic wellbeing, social cohesion, intercultural dialogue and self-development through dance education, performing arts and event production. Kwabo means welcome in Fon (Benin dialect) thus, Kwabo Events invites individuals from all walks of life to dive in fun and cultural art experiences.

We acknowledge that this event will be held on Wurundjeri land of the Kulin Nation and recognise that sovereignty was never ceded. We pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
