Féile na nGael was last weekend. The B team contensted in division 7 which didn't have a semi final stage - this meant they played 4 games in a blustery O'Dwyers. They won 1 but lost the other 3. Alas, it wasn't their day. The A team had a better run of it, winning all 3 games in their group stage. The semi-final was against Erin's Isle. The hit the upright twice, and the Isle's goalie had a amazing full-stretch save to deny them a goal. It's the little things that make the difference, and unfortunately, our lads were knocked out at this stage.
The boys on both squads put in fine performances and did themselves and the club proud. Féile Peil is in a couple of weeks time, and the girls Féile peil is coming up too. Keep an eye here for more information as we get closer.

Senior Hurlers in action Good Friday, Footballers next week

The senior hurlers take on local rivals Craobh Chiaráin in Parnell Park this Friday at 6pm. This is the second round of the championship and promises to be a hotly contested affair. The bar in the club is open too, so why not head to Parnell Park to support the team, and you can head to the bar for a well deserved pint afterwards. Mind you, if it is as cold as the last time, it'll be a hot toddy I'll be after. Facebook event here.
Next Wednesday, 24th sees the Senior Footballers take on Castleknock in the second round of the championship. (Facebook event here). That game is on in Sylvesters pitch, Broomfield at 7:30pm.

I figure there's enough regular information to be sent out to mentors, that I'm considering a monthly mentors update mail, separate from club notes. But for now, here's a couple of important notices:
Summer training schedule. Juvenile game director, Tony O'Connell has issued the summer training schedule. As the days get longer, the county board tends to start scheduling mid-week games for juveniles. This means pitches have to be freed up for match use. A new training schedule has been released, and forwarded to all mentors. Mentors: If you haven't seen it, drop me a mail for a copy.
Referees. The GAA have long promoted the 'Give Respect Get Respect" concept, and I think this is one we can all agree on. The CCC have just this week issued a statement around treatment of referees. Here's what they had to say:
"The C.C.C. is seriously concerned in the increasing numbers of reports from Referees about the level of verbal abuse that they are being subjected to at our matches. The C.C.C. is of the view that the abuse of Referees, verbal or otherwise, cannot be tolerated. I have been instructed to remind all concerned that the penalties prescribed for this behavior in An Teoraí Oifigúil are minimum penalties only. It will be the policy of the C.C.C . to increase these penalties in the future in order to protect our Referees."
I don't think this needs elaboration. We should lead by example.
Videoing of games. Also, word from the CCC:
"As you are aware it is necessary to seek permission to record on video etc games involving teams from your own Club. In general permission is granted subject to compliance with CCC regulations. In recent weeks it has been brought to our attention that some Clubs are attempting to record games in which their teams are not involved. Please be advised that this practice is not allowed by the C.C.C..
Clubs are also reminded that where they wish to record a minor game they must get written permission to do so from the parents / guardians of each player."

They say one good turn deserves another. So here goes. The senior 4 camogie team were in need of new sliotars and former sernior footballer, Conor McCarthy stepped up with sponsorship to cover their entire cost of sliotars for the full season. How generous! Conor is proprietor of Precious Petals florist, so now you know where to go next time you need flowers. Many thanks Conor!

A new RTÉ show, "The Fitting Room" is a show that focuses on making fashion available to a diverse range of people. They recently shot an episode involving GAA4MAs player, Lisa Crowe. Shooting occurred during GAA4MAs training down at the club, and Lisa's episode is due to air on Monday 6th May (That's the May Bank Holiday Monday) at 9:30pm on RTÉ2. We'll be screening it on the night in the bar along with all of Lisa's friends from GAA4MAs. Do come along to hear Lisa's unique story and watch her big up Vins.

Great weekend away for the U16 girls squad last week. They got in a Camogie game against Shemaliers Camogie Club, a Football game against Shemaliers ladies and an afternoon's surfing in Curracloe. Sounds like a blast!
