About the Event

Virtual Sarikei Webinar Series (VSWS) allows Sarikeians to be connected virtually while adapting to the new normal during this COVID-19 time.

We would like to encourage entrepreneurs and SMEs of Sarikei to join us for an informal dialogue session that allow us to hear the story behind an entrepreneur that produces shumai (or also known as sio bee / xiu mai) and manages to build his own brand within Sarawak in the food manufacturing industry. How he started his journey, and what are the things to consider while starting his business in Sarikei. Hear his story and some secret recipes to creating a local business that can grow beyond Sarawak.

This virtual coffee webinar will be moderated by Malcolm Wu - SMA | Sarikei Innovation Center and joining us is Mr Lau Diew Lung - Founder cum Chairman of Sarikei Jakar Shumai.

About Sarikei Jakar Shumai

Shumai or also known as "Sio Bee" / "Shao Mai" / "Xiu Mai" which refers to meat dumplings, a type of Chinese delicacy (Dim Sum). The founder of Sarikei Jakar Shumai - Mr Lau Diew Lung is a big fan of Shumai. He works as a culinary chef in some Chinese restaurants in Bintulu for more than 10 years. He then returns to Sarikei around 2016 to help out with family's F&B business. Sarikei Jakar Shumai is then established in August 2017 from a simple idea of the founder to mass produce his own recipe of shumai. Now, the brand of Sarikei Jakar Shumai can be easily found in more than 4 major locations (Sarikei, Kuching, Bintulu, Miri, and Sibu) in Sarawak. To find out more on his entrepreneurial journey, do sign up now!

What is Virtual Coffee?

It is an informal dialogue / networking session that is hosted online instead of in-person. Fun fact, we want you to have a cup of coffee (or it can be your favourite drink) with you during this session.
