Dear Neighbor,

Happy Summer! It is with immense pride and gratitude that we write to you today after our first year of serving as your elected Democratic District Leaders. Since taking office last June, we wasted no time in diving headfirst into our mission of empowering Democrats across the 81st Assembly district and throughout New York State. We wanted to take this moment to share with you a brief glimpse into our efforts and accomplishments thus far.

The Year in Review...

In August, we enthusiastically led efforts to re-elect Senators Robert Jackson and Gustavo Rivera. Forces in and out of our district attempted to remove these valuable voices in the State Senate, but in the end, our community’s voice was loud and clear. Every day, both Senator Jackson and Senator Rivera are fighting hard in Albany to secure wins for our community in the State Senate.

In October, we joined activists from the Unity Coalition and launched the Unity Democratic Club! The Unity Democratic Club was founded to bring inclusiveness, transparency, and new energy to the Democratic party in our corner of The Bronx. The Unity Democratic Club welcomes all Democrats in the NW Bronx to build community power through active civic participation. To become a member, click HERE, or send an email to [email protected] to learn more.

November was incredibly busy! Ramdat celebrated Diwali at the Vishnu Mandir’s annual Bronx Diwali event.

And we got to work! When the far-right threatened our democratic values in New York, we sprang to action, getting Democrats elected up and down the ballot. We even ventured to Newburgh, NY to help deliver a close win for Pat Ryan.

Voter education was central to energizing community members at the polls. On the November ballot, we had four ballot proposals and we organized tabling events to ensure that our communities voted in favor of these ballot measures. Overwhelmingly, these ballot proposals passed, and will advance racial equity in our city.

We energized voters to re-elect Kathy Hochul, and ensure New York did not elect a far-right Governor.

In December, we showed up for our community by supporting the Friendly Fridge and planning our first holiday toy and food distribution in Norwood-- where Ramdat attended elementary school (PS.94).

In January, Abigail joined the fight against NYC Retirees being forced into Medicare Advantage and submitted testimony to the NYC City Council.

In February, Ramdat volunteered at the Riverdale Y on MLK Day, by educating the community on the Climate, Jobs, and Justice Package Climate, Jobs & Justice Package, a legislative roadmap to decarbonize New York, and make our state healthier.

In March, we were proud to sponsor the first annual Riverdale Women’s History Month event!

And throughout the Spring we have been proud to support incumbent City Council candidates Amanda Farias and Peirina Sanchez by petitioning and canvassing.

To close out our first year, in June we particpated in the 2nd Annual Riverdale Pride Event, which was so much fun!

This inaugural year has been truly extraordinary. We have been absolutely thrilled to deepen our connection with our vibrant community, and we consider it an immense privilege to build a stronger community alongside each and every one of you.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support and wholehearted participation in our mission to cultivate a stronger community through active engagement, civil education, and collaborative efforts.

As your District Leaders, we are committed to continuing this journey and serving our community with unwavering dedication. In honor of Pride Month, we invite you to join us TOMORROW evening at the Bronx Burger House to rally behind Ramdat, The Bronx's first queer District Leader. Your presence and support will help us continue to make an impact as we strive to shape a brighter future together!

In Solidarity and Community,

Abigail and Ramdat
