Halsey wins Breakthrough Artist prize at the Music Business Association Awards

'New Americana' songstress Halsey was honoured with one of the The Music Business Association’s coveted Breakthrough Artist Awards in Nashville this week.

The star, who recently announced a series of new tourdates to support her debut album 'Badlands', picked up the prize at the ceremony and told the crowd that she was really excited to be named the recipient:

“This is the first award I’ve ever gotten, ever, in my entire life. I just want to say ‘Take that!’ to my junior-varsity cheerleading team!”

Previous winners of the same award given to Halsey include Nicki Minaj, Carrie Underwood, The Killers, Meghan Trainor, 'Dangerous Woman' sensation Ariana Grande, and crooner John Legend.

Halsey recently told Sirius XM that she is working on her sophomore album, but progress so far is slow: “I’m a little bit more of a creative roadblock person right now. Still kind of just trucking along. This album two will come along eventually. I just have to pull it out of me, I swear!”
