Getting Played

Rate this book
Dean Walker is all about keeping life simple. He's effortlessly talented and intelligent—spending his summers playing drums in the local band and the rest of the year teaching high school in the same Jersey town where he grew up. He likes his love life simple too, enjoying the commitment-free hook-ups his good looks and sexy charm have always made oh so easy.

Then he meets Lainey Burrows. And his simple, easy life gets turned upside down.

One wild one-night stand was all it was ever supposed to be, so Lainey is shocked when she discovers that her sizzling summer fling is also her son's new math teacher. But that's nothing compared to the most unexpected twist of all—their hot hook-up left Lainey knocked up, and now they're about to become parents. Together.

What ensues is an addictive, insatiable, sweet and tender romance that won't be simple, but it will be more than worth the fight.

Last year when I listened to the first book in this series, I was blown away. I thought for sure it would be my favorite of the ‘Getting Some’ series, but I was wrong. Getting Played was even better and more addicting than the first! I was obsessed with this book and couldn’t stop listening.

Getting Played is about Lainey, a single mom, who lets loose one night in the summer and does something she never usually does. Has a one night stand with a sexy drummer. Dean is this drummer. We know Dean as Garrett’s best friend and the math teacher at Lakeside. They only have one night together, but it’s hella hot and perfect and the only regret Lainey has is that she didn’t get Dean’s last name and doesn’t have a way to contact him.

It would have really been handy when she found out she was pregnant… Lainey and her teenage son move to a new town, Lakeside and Lainey is ready to raise the baby on her own and all is good. Until she runs into Dean again… gah! I loved their reunion so much. This story was just everything.

I loved that Lainey was a strong and independent single momma who always put her son first. She deserved love and someone who would be there for her, but was okay on her own. Dean has such a player past but he’s the type of guy that once he meets the one, it’s over. And Lainey is his one.

Of course there is a bit of drama and angst, but overall it’s just a really sweet and fun rom-com. If you’re looking for a good time, pick up this audio book! Once again, Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt did an incredible job narrating. I loved listening to this book. Their narration is wonderful and they voiced Lainey and Dean perfectly.

This is such a heartwarming and feel good romance. It was swoony, sexy, sweet, and left the biggest grin on my face. I adored it. Seriously, there wasn’t anything I didn’t love about this book! Highly recommended to all romance lovers!

This was sooo good, and I wanna be Lainey Burrows when I grow up.

✓ Lifestyle blogger
✓ Social media famous
✓ Cool mom

In other words, a superwoman. 💁‍♀️ Well, except maybe the part about her getting knocked up from a ONS (which btw I don’t think is a stupid mistake and more like . . . fate since they used protection) cause my parents would disown me if that happened.

The best things in life always come along when we’re not looking for them.

Although if the baby turned out to be a thoughtful and intelligent young man named Jason and the daddy was a sexy drummer and caring high school teacher Dean Walker, then that’s kind of a hard bargain. I can only resist so much. Afterall, it was Eve who ate the forbidden fruit.

According to my son, Coach Walker sounds like a combination of Captain America, ‪Eddie Vedder‬, Chris Hemsworth, and Albert Einstein.

It was explained that Dean was a player back in the day, which made me icky because boy was he a manwhore. But he was done with all of it. He was perfect in this book—math genius, football coach, great with his students, not afraid to voice out his feelings, and FUNNY. I think you’d fall in love with him too.

I want to be her everything. Because somewhere along the line—Lainey, Jason, our baby—that’s what they’ve become to me. Everything.

The trope/plot itself might be trite, but the writing is excellent and honestly this is like one of the best and most well executed secret pregnancy scenarios. It’s full of LOL moments and all kinds of fluff and most importantly no messy drama. One of my favorite feel good small town romcoms, for sure!

I love everything Emma Chase. She writes the funniest, sweetest, most lovable characters. GETTING PLAYED is #2 in the Getting Some series and just as good as (or maybe even better than) GETTING SCHOOLED. She always, ALWAYS hits the spot for me.

Dean is the swooniest hero - he is a player and learns what it's like when your past bites you in your butt because growing up in a small town word travels fast and every single person there has an opinion about it.
Lainey and Dean's chemistry is off the charts from the moment they meet (*fans herself*) and this author, like only a few others, can make me believe in love at first sight. Their one-off night leaves them both wanting more but it takes months until they get another chance and then it's quite the bombshell she drops on Dean.

I loved Garrett and Callie so much but with Dean and Lainey Emma Chase upped the ante. These two are so adorable together. Dean is your typical player who falls hard and irrevocably. I adored how he was with his students and especially with Jason, Lainey's son.
Lainey is a lifestyle blogger. Her attitude towards life is so admirable, always expecting the unexpected and going with the flow. She truly is perfect for Dean. I loved how she treated her son like a grown-up.

Supported are these two by a colorful array of secondary characters who give this story a multi-dimensional feel. I loved every single one of them. I'm hoping for at least two more books in this series. Kelly Simmons and the hot doc, Connor, Garrett's brother.

Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt are professionals and I can't  say it often enough - they get better with each book they narrate. It's amazing how beautifully they breathe life into their characters. You really can't go wrong with these two if you are new to audiobooks. (You can listen to a sample on the blog).

GETTING PLAYED is a winner from beginning to end. It's an enchanting, funny, light and fast, laugh-out-loud summer read and the best remedy for a book hangover. Emma Chase, bring on the next!

I want to be her everything. Because somewhere along the line—Lainey, Jason, our baby—that’s what they’ve become to me. Everything.

You GUYS.
*flails happily*
GUYS.
*laughs giddily*
GUYS!!!!
*sighs dreamily*

I am on book cloud nine right now. This is just one of those swoony, lighthearted, and feel good romances that's guaranteed to put a smile on your face and butterflies in your tummy. It's ice cream on a hot summer day. It's a cozy sweater and a fireplace on a cold winter day. It's the perfect cup of hot cocoa. It's one of those books that just hits the spot, no matter what mood you're in and makes your day better.

Now look, I'm not typically a reader that enjoys a sweet romance. Being the angst addict that I am, it's just not typically my cuppa. But this book? Oh my swoon. It was everything I didn't know I wanted. There's just something about Emma Chase's writing that's pure magic. She creates characters that you can't help but fall head over heels for, and it doesn't just stop with the main characters.

Dean was pure perfection. He's a hero that's guaranteed to tug at every heart string you have. Dean has a history liking things loose and easy. He was a player in high school and while he may have outgrown that part of his life, he still doesn't like complications beyond a steamy night in the sheets. But then he spends one night with a woman that changes something in him irrevocably. Months later he can't stop thinking about her but has no idea how to find her since he didn't get her number. As fate would have it, months later they meet again and not only is the woman's son in his high school class, but surprise of surprises, their one night stand left her pregnant.
Dean Walker is going to be a father. Holy fuck me sideways. When you start referring to yourself in the third person in your own mind—that’s when you know you’re screwed.

Now let me tell you guys, the blurb doesn't even begin to do this book justice. The chemistry between Lainey and Dean is absolutely sizzling. There's this instant connection they share, and I sweat it only amplified when they finally meet again. Lainey is a lifestyle blogger and her new project lands her in the same small town where Dean lives and teaches. She's such a sweet soul that you can't help but love her. And her teenage son is one of the most endearing secondary characters I've read to date. I loved watching the connection between Dean and Jason, almost as much as I loved it between Dean and Lainey. There's just something so magnetic about them. And watching this sexy former playboy become total goo at the hands of a woman, their unborn baby, and her son was so stinking SWEET.

This was such a sweet and satisfying romance. I adore all things Emma Chase, and the woman can write enemies to lovers like no other, but there's something about her sweet, angst free romance that just DOES IT FOR YOU. I can't recommend this one enough.

She sighs into my mouth when I press my lips against hers, stroking the hot cavern of her mouth with my tongue. And there’s a blissful relief in having her in my arms again—after all this time—feeling her against me. Good and right and mine. It’s a perfect space of bliss and pleasure carved out for just the two of us that I never ever want to leave.

This is the reason why Emma Chase has remained one of my most beloved authors for the past several years. She is by far, one of the best romantic comedy authors out there today. The ”Getting Some” series is yet another winner to add to her illustrious book of works. I can’t think of one thing about this latest book that I didn’t love. It has a terrific plot, an amazing Hero and Heroine with combustible chemistry and some unforgettable secondary characters. I could not get enough of Dean and Lainey’s story.

Dean and Lainey meet one sultry summer night at a bar down at the Jersey shore. Crazy sparks generate between them and they end up sharing a night filled with mind-blowing sex that neither will soon forget. Although it’s been months since they’ve seen each other, neither has been able to forget that incredible night and soon their paths will unexpectedly cross again when Lainey and her teenaged son move to the town that Dean calls home. Not only are they living in Lakeside, but Lainey’s son also happens to be the new student in the high school AP Calculus class that Dean teaches. When they finally come face to face, Dean learns that Lainey has a big surprise to share with him. She’s three months pregnant with his baby.

Dean has been living the carefree life of a bachelor up until now and has never had the urge to settle down, but there’s something special about Lainey that inexplicably draws him to her. Dean is starting to question whether or not he wants to remain the sexy Rock God who jumps from one woman’s bed to the next. When he tries to play the role of the faithful and monogamous boyfriend will former temptation cause him to lose the beautiful family that he was slowly starting to build with Lainey?

Here are my overall ratings:
Hero: 5
Heroine: 5
Plot: 5
Angst: 4
Steam: 4.5
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 5+++++

I absolutely loved this sweet, low angst read with very likable characters.

Lainey Burrows, a single Mom, was enjoying a night out with her sister at a bar. She caught the eye of the hot drummer, Dean. Who would have thought after one night together, their lives would be changed forever.

I listened to the audiobook, and Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber were absolutely perfect.
Highly recommend!

5 fantastic stars!

Getting Schooled was my #1 favourite read last year, and ever since I heard that Emma Chase was going to make it into a series, Getting Played was my most anticipated read of this year. I dropped everything the moment this audiobook dropped onto my phone, and it did not disappoint!

We are taken back to the town of Lakeside, this time for the story of Dean – best friend of Garrett from book #1. Dean is the math teacher and assistant football coach at the same high school that he and Garrett attended as kids. He spends his summers touring with his band and playing his beloved drums, and it’s while performing one night that he becomes smitten with a woman in the crowd.

Lainey is a single mother to a teenage son and runs a successful lifestyle blog. She’s celebrating a new career opportunity out at a bar when she meets Dean. After staring lustfully at each other through his whole set, they share a fun and easy night together which ends with multiple rounds of the best sex either of them have had. They both consider it a hook-up and say goodbyes in the morning, but neither of them are able to forget each other or the amazing time they had together.

Months later, and Lainey’s job has moved her to Lakeside, and she and Dean get the surprise of their lives when they run in to each other again. The surprises continue when they then discover that Dean is the teacher that Lainey’s son can’t stop gushing about, and not only that… but Lainey is pregnant from their night together.

Squeeeee! I love a surprise pregnancy storyline, and this one is just gorgeous!

Dean is a simple guy. He loves his job, his friends, and his music, and he’s happy with his commitment-free lifestyle and his frequent hook-ups with no desire for anything more. But then there is Lainey. Not only was he unable to forget about her, but she makes him feel things he hasn’t felt before. The idea of a relationship is completely new to him, but she’s a total gamechanger for him. And the fact that she’s having his baby changes brings them together in a way he never would have anticipated.

Lainey is a ‘take life as it comes’ kind of girl. She’s smart and sensible, and I love how no-nonsense she is. She’s a wonderful mother and she’s prepared to go it alone, but as Dean declares himself all in, she finds her whole world flipped upside down.

Everybody in town new that when Dean the player fell, he would fall hard, and we get to see that in glorious detail as Dean throws himself into life as an expectant father, and allows everything he is feeling for Lainey to shine. It’s absolutely effortless and so, so beautiful, and while it’s not exactly conventional, and they do have some drama to sort through, it’s angst free, super sexy and so freaking sweet. I absolutely love these two together, and their journey to their HEA is lots of fun.

Lovers of the first book will be thrilled that we get to spend time with Garret and Callie, and there’s some great story progression for them, and once again there’s a fantastic bunch of side characters that bring so much to the story. The teachers at work, Dean’s Grandmother, Lainey’s family, her son, and the rest of Dean’s students absolutely shine whenever they appear, and this book had me laughing out loud so many times at the fantastic dynamics and banter.

Emma Chase has delivered another fantastic rom-com with characters that you can’t help but love and a love story that will have you laughing, swooning, fanning yourself and grinning like a fool.

The audiobook is once again narrated by Andie Arndt and Zachary Webber, and they are perfection!

I loved everything about this one!

5 stars!

YEP! YEP! YEP!!! This book hits the spot! I fell in love with these characters!

Lainey is a single mom who has a teenage son. This mother-son duo is both sweet and endearing.

Lainey comes from a big family - all girls. While out with one of her sisters Lainey meets one of the sexiest drummer ever, Dean. He's playing in a band that is sort of low key. Only during the summer months does the band perform.

A scorching hot one-night stand leaves these two wishing they had exchanged numbers. Unfortunately, afterwards, they realize that neither one knows how to contact the other.

I'm going to stop there because finding out how they later run into each other and what pursues thereafter adds to the fun of this love story.

GETTING PLAYED is the second book in the Getting Some series and can be read as a standalone. The author, Ms. Chase, has a hypnotic way of making a love story addicting. I could not stop listening to this audio. I even had my headphones on when I went to bed last night. Unfortunately, the sleep mode didn't turn off after half an hour and this morning I had to try to figure out where I left off. LISTEN TO THIS BOOK!!

It's been a few years since I've read a book by Emma Chase and I had almost forgotten how beautifully charming her writing was. Almost. Getting Played was a delightfully hilarious story about how a one night stand turned into forever and I LOVED it!!

Check out a sample: https://soundcloud.com/audible/gettin...

Lainey was a single mom of an incredible teenage boy. She was a lifestyle blogger and after landing a big deal, she was out celebrating. She couldn't tear her eyes off of the drummer playing in the bar. And he couldn't tear his eyes off of her. After an entertaining conversation, some more drinks, and a ton of exchanged lustful stares, they went on to have the night of their lives. The next morning didn't go as either of them planned and they're destined to never see each other again. But they can't stop thinking about each other. And Lainey NEEDS to find him. Because their one night created the most beautiful of circumstances.

I loved that although Dean was a manwhore, he was completely gaga over Lainey. She wasn't in it alone. There was no unrequited love because they were falling together. It was super sweet and I couldn't get enough! It was also super dirty and I LOVED Dean's filthy ways. There was a bit of angst with regards to Dean's promiscuous past, but it only served to prove how hard he was working to make a better future with Lainey. She was it for him and there was absolutely no doubt.

I'm still relatively new to the audiobook scene, but these narrators did a great job of bringing these characters to life. I'm not a big fan of them trying to do opposite sex voices (it was a bit odd), but overall, they were awesome and I'd definitely listen to them again. This was a real feel-good romance that can turn you on just as well as it will warm your heart!

Such a fun and sweet read. Just what I needed. I havent read the first book in this series, but you can bet your ass I will go back and fix that grave error.

I laughed my ass off reading this one and I think Lainey and Dean were absolutely perfect together. Not to mention Jason...what an awesome kid.

This book was all kinds of fluffy goodness and I can't wait for more. I am gonna keep a close eye on this author. I just have one important question....which I hope someone will be able to answer for me. Does Jack (and Erin) have his own story...or will he be getting one, because I think I fell a little bit in love with him.

Definitely a 4,5 star read for me !!

Dean Walker lives and works in the small Jersey town he grew up in where he’s a high school teacher and coaches football. In the summers he enjoys being a drummer touring with his band. He likes being single and doesn’t do relationships or commitments. Then he has one unforgettable night with a gorgeous woman named Lainey. He didn’t have her phone number, or even know her last name, so he assumed he’d never see her again. After thinking about her for months she shows up out of the blue and suddenly his life is turned upside down.

If I could turn back time...

I'm pretty happy with my life now but a few years ago, I couldn't help but over-analyse all my past bad decisions. If I could turn back time and give myself a bit of advice, I wouldn't be going back to right my wrongs, I'd be going back to tell myself to look forward.

Pretty philosophical, hey?

I guess I just couldn't help but feel sorry for the main characters in the story, Dean and Lainey and how they were pigeon-holed because of their past. Lainey for having a child young and out of wedlock, and Dean because he was a player and broke a few hearts. They both learnt from their lessons and tried to live their lives not repeating those mistakes. Dean is very straight with the women he sleeps with and never makes promises he can't commit to. Lainey has made a good life for her son and herself, trying to never rely on others for their happiness. Unfortunately for Lainey, even taking precautions, it seems as if history is repeating itself.

I really enjoyed listening to Getting Played. Both narrators do a really great job and I found myself connecting with the characters more because of their storytelling ability. They are both so easy to listen to and I never struggle to understand them or identify when the characters change. I will definitely listen to more from Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber in the future.

Emma Chase has treated us to a cute and sexy story set in a small town. The characters are original, funny and full of heart. Lainey's son Jason, was smart, sweet and very loyal to his mother. Dean's students (including Jason) were entertaining and I loved that the nerdy kids were portrayed as pretty cool and not the butt of jokes. Both Lainey and Dean's families were great and I loved their obvious connection.

I've really enjoyed the Getting Some series so far and I really hope there will be more in the future.

This is second in a series. You don't need to read the first before this one, though knowing the characters is lovely. They aren't very intrusive or anything, so you're fine starting here.

So I was barreling along and at 75% I just died. I mean, things were going lovely. The setup is preposterous and a little forced, but I like to give a book its premise and this one is premised on them having a fling that results in a pregnancy. I liked how their reactions highlighted the characters' inner landscapes and Lainey is just all kinds of engaging. She pulls up her inner adult and gets to the necessary things.

And Dean seemed to be doing great, as well. He hasn't had to mature at all in the last decade and some so this hit his inner playboy hard. And that's fine, I get having some learning to do. The thing is, he's just so sweet that I was totally rooting for them and you could see him learning his way into a loving relationship. And then we get the foreboding "I'll never let you down" followed by "But like many famous last words, I did". And I quit.

Maybe it's the spate of dark moments I've hit lately but I am so very tired of authors forcing their characters to do that last minute betrayal. With a guy like Dean, the stronger story is if he doesn't screw up. Frankly, he's such a bad bet anyway that him screwing up should be everything Lainey needs to kick him permanently to the curb. How can she ever trust him if he proves himself unworthy knowing his past and proclivities?

Frankly, even if Chase pulls it off (and she's good enough she just might), I'm not interested in going through the pain. They were in such a good place. And I had so much hope. And I don't need the devastating loss of betrayal, complete with awkward foreshadowing.

So I noped out. Sad because this was doing well, even with the outlandish setup.

Now who does not want a Dean to ourselves? He is that perfect partner. Dean is a confident, caring, sweet and vulnerable hero. I always have soft spot for vulnerable hero. He is awesome. I want a Dean for myself.

It is a very very sweet, fun romance story. Even there is no major drama/ plot/ twist, somehow Dean entertains us all with his sweetness. Miss Chase done it again giving us that perfect hero we all craves in a rom com book. I remember I have a fond memory reading the first book on this series. And Getting Played is a perfect continuity of this series.

I listen this book during the stay at home amid COVID-19. It manages to put a smile on my face.

5 'Life is full of surprises' Stars!
ARC provided by the author via Social Butterfly PR in exchange for an honest review.

I am in looooove with this series! Emma Chase keeps killing it with these sexy small town stories and she definitely did not disappoint with Getting Played. This book is just as good as the first one in the series but still unique in its own way. I mean, a hot math’s professor / drummer falling for a single mom / lifestyle blogger? I was all over it from the very first page to the very last one. I literally devoured this novel in just a few hours!

Getting Played is the second installment of Emma’s Getting Some series and it’s a surprise pregnancy romance you cannot miss! Dean Walker and Lainey Burrows meet in one of Dean’s concerts and they share a wild one-night stand full of sizzling chemistry. But things get interesting when Lainey and her teenage son move to Lakeside and she finds out she is actually pregnant with Dean’s baby. Has this commitment-free playboy finally met his soul mate?

The best things in life always come along when we’re not looking for them.

Emma Chase is an incredible writer, her rom coms are to die for and Getting Played was no exception. Dean and Lainey are just fantastic together, I loved the slow development of their relationship and their feelings (after the one-night stand), and I adored Jay, the baby, Grams, Lainey’s family, just all the secondary characters that appeared in this novel. I loved the small town feel and the interactions in the school between Dean and his students.

Dean Walker’s voice should be labeled a weapon of mass seduction.

Of course, the best part of this book is Dean himself and his relationship with Lainey, her son and the baby. These couple is so sweet and so sexy. Their chemistry was off-the-charts HAWT and it got even better when they started falling for each other without even realizing it. Just as Garrett (the hero in Getting Schooled), Dean is swoony, honest, and oh-so-sexy, Lainey is just as an amazing heroine and the kids are just adorable. That together: beautiful, scorching hot and emotional!

I want to be her everything. Because somewhere along the line—Lainey, Jason, our baby—that’s what they’ve become to me. Everything.

Therefore, my rating for Getting Played is 5 STARS because, again, Emma did a wonderful job with this rom com. I loved being back in Lakeside, I loved Dean and Lainey together and how their love story developed together with the children. Obviously, I enjoyed their burning chemistry and all those feels too! I hope Emma writes more about this crew because I am definitely excited about it. Highly recommend this one!

I freely admit that I’ve got a huge appetite for single parent romances, and Getting Played is the crème de la crème. Emma Chase is my go-to author for romantic comedy, so I’m not surprised that she delivers once again in a big way.

Lainey and Dean’s unexpected reunion brings nothing but joy. There is just something about a person finding love for the second or even the first time after handling the challenges of parenting alone that makes my tender heart melt.

It would be easy to paint Lainey as a damsel in distress since she is pregnant once again and very much single, but this story is far more interesting due to Lainey’s independence. Man or no man, she’s a resourceful woman with inner peace and an ability to roll with the punches. Her easygoing nature makes her the perfect match for Dean.

Dean has to be the coolest high school teacher ever. His rapport with his AP Math students and fellow teachers is as entertaining as his spot-on observations about GPA obsessed mathletes. Dean has some growing up to do, but he’s infinitely dreamy.

There are many sweet touches that add enjoyment to the story. Dean’s feisty grandmother is a hoot, and I looked forward to Lainey’s live video streams for her lifestyle blog. Perhaps my favorite part of the story is Dean’s relationship with Lainey’s teenage son. Their relationship is one giant swoon fest.

Whether it’s a rainy day or a pool day, Getting Played is the perfect treat. The audiobook is currently available in Audible Escape (formerly known as Audible Romance), and the narration by Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber is simply wonderful.

Getting Played was an incredibly fun story to read. I loved the heated moments between Lainey and Dean but honestly what made this book so enjoyable were the lighthearted and real moments between them. It wasn't all an easy romance and they had a lot they needed to work through but I loved seeing that. It made them so easy to connect to and had me rooting for them.

It was also really fun to see Dean in his different parts of his life. He was introduced as this easy going drummer and then we got to see how he was in the classroom interacting with his students and taking things just a little more seriously. Lainey, I actually would have loved to get to know more about her than we did. I just felt like there were parts I was missing with her but what we did learn I still liked.

Overall, definitely a recommended read. This can also be read as a standalone if you haven't read the previous book yet and want to just get to this one.

Spoilers ahead

Lainey goes out with her sister to celebrate her blog signing a one year contract with Facebook. At the bar she meets sexy drummer Dean and after hours of talking they spend the night together. They part the next day and weeks later Lainey moves to Lakeside only to shockingly realize she's pregnant. Unable to find Dean she decides to have her baby. Imagine her surprise when she goes to a Parent/Teacher meeting and finds that her son's teacher is none other than her sexy ONS drummer.....and father of her unborn child.

Dean tours every summer with his band but returns to his small-town and picks up his duties at the end. After his last summer however he's unable to get Lainey off his !ind, he's had offers and even tries to pick-up a girl in a bar once but his body only craves Lainey. He's shocked to call in his new student's parent only to see HIS Lainey walk in ......with a baby bump no less. While Lainey doesn't think a rekindling of their sexual relationship is a good idea they do agree to fake date to stop bad rumors from spreading and affecting Jayson's life....but the thing about pretending is sometimes the line between what's real and what's fake starts to blur.

***********
Ok so the positives
1)I love Lainey! She was so quirky, sweet and funny and such a good mom to her son. She's the kind of h I always hope for in a romance.I adored her relationship with her son, her sister's and her parents.
2)I love children in romances and 14 year old gifted child Jayson was a sweet realistic portrayal of a teen. His reaction to what he thought was Dean's betrayal of his mom made me love hm even more
3) The humor and banter in this one was as usual you this author really well done. I had many laugh out loud moments especially with the words coming out of Gram's mouth
4)Dean, especially in the latter part of the book was a really good H. I like my characters to grow and it's very, very clear that Dean had changed a lot by the end of the book. Maturity looked good on him, and I found myself settled and content in their hea
5) No sex with op during their time apart, We know Dean tried but his penis wasn't willing to work for anyone else

The not so good
Dean's past as a manwhore was a HUGE part of the story, he liked things cool and easy without complications and had lived his life accordingly. For years he fucked around and cheated on his many girlfriends. We see some of the women he'd been with who've moved on with their lives, one who'd remained his friend even though she'd caught him cheating on her with her best friend. It all became so much that I felt bombarded with evidence of Dean's rampaging dick. By his second year of college, I think it was, Dean had slowed down some after realizing that committment wasn't for him and started sleeping with women who knew the score. At one point he considered sleeping with one of his ex hookups who he'd sleep with whether she or even himself were in relationships. Now all this was in Dean's past but I really, really didn't need to know about it. I found my stomach rolling at some of his inner monologue. I'm not sure if the author used his past as contrast to show how far he'd come in terms of maturity but honestly it just made me side eye Dean.
His same ex hookup was the unwitting cause of the drama in the book as she stripped down and came on to him. To his credit he didn't want her in any way and had no problems shutting it down but Jayson saw and it caused a bit of drama

Single parent and baby from a ONS romances are my jam....with conditions lol. Dean's past left a really bad taste in my mouth and without it this book would've been a solid 4*(y'all know I'm stingy with my 5*lol) I can appreciate how much Dean had changed and had his past not been as......present in my face this one would've definitely been rated higher.

5 “A Perfect Audible” Stars

Want to listen to a story that will make you laugh, smile, sigh and blush? Than look no further than Getting Played. A sweet romantic story of finding love when you least expect it.

Hands down there is nothing better than an Emma Chase hero. He’s the best ever. The perfect part of arrogance, filled with a sarcastic funny side. But he’s also caring, loving, passionate, humorous, and sprinkled with a side of vulnerability. Dean Walker fit the bill perfectly. And not to forget Emma Chase’s heroines, they are always independent, loving, loyal and know how to handle their hero. Enter Lainey Burrows, single mother of a 14yr old. Emma Chase always packages the most perfect of love stories with heros and heroines who contrast and compliment each other in the best possible way.

When listening to an audible story, I believe that the narrators play a vital role in the success of the book. And the duo of Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber hit it out of the park. They capture the complete essence of Dean and Lainey and bring their flirty and funny banter to life. Not to forget that they also bring to life the cast of secondary characters that add another sweet and sassy zest to the story.

A Must Listen for any romance lover who loves to smile and laugh and swoon. This audible delivers on every single count and I highly recommend!!

“Supercalifragilisticexpiali-fuck me, Dean”

Ok, so here’s the thing. I’ve recently noticed that after 800 books read so far, i’m not willing to give my 5⭐️ as easily as I might have done in the past. As we all know, ratings and reviews are entirely subjective, so here’s why Getting Played was perfect for me.

Reason #1: humour. It made me feel soooo good, I laughed out loud many times, I giggled and chuckled, grinned, smirked and smiled through out the entire thing.
Example:

“But I’m putting this on the table . . . anytime you feel like being not smart, I’m your guy. You change your mind and want to hook up, for one night . . . or ten . . . I am up for that.” He gestures to his groin. “Literally, up for it. Just say the words.” A giggle tickles my throat. “What words?” “Yes, Dean. Please, Dean. Now, Dean. Supercalifragilisticexpiali-fuck me, Dean. Any combination of those will work. Don’t be shy—I’m a sure thing. Okay?”

Reason #2: i fell in love with the hero. It was insta-love kind of thing for me. I mean, he’s basically a genius, Math teacher, football coach, sexy drummer, good with kids teenagers and funny.
Examples:

“According to my son, Coach Walker sounds like a combination of Captain America, ‪Eddie Vedder‬, Chris Hemsworth, and Albert Einstein.”

“ Okay. Over the summer, I hooked up with this girl and she was like . . .” I search my mind for an adequate way to convey all that Lainey was, in a way they’ll understand. My voice goes wispy with awe. “. . . a Hot Dog Johnny’s hot dog, with everything on it.”

“I’m here to shovel your drive, baby. Feel free to take that as the pun it’s intended to be.”

Reason #3: i enjoyed the story. Nice and easy rom-com, a little tine bit of drama, great side characters - Jayson, Grams, Lainey’s sisters, even Lucifer!. No mess, no fuss. Even so, I couldn’t put it down!

Reason #4: the heroine. She’s this amazing lifestyle blogger, who I wished to be real, just so I could follow her on all available social media platforms. 😄 She’s equally funny as Dean, awesome single mom and basically my type of a strong heroine.

“Are my vaginal secretions acidic or something? Do they just eat through the condom?”

Reason #5: small town romance. ❤️

Maybe it doesn’t have that emotional depth I sometimes need, it isn’t a rollercoaster, it didn’t touch my heart like others did, but it made me feel SO GOOD, that it leaves no other choice than to give it all the ⭐️ available.

It would be an absolute honor to have you as my guest on my blog too. Stop by anytime you want :)

3.5 stelline

‘I want to be her everything. Because somewhere along the line, that’s what Lainey’s become to me. Everything.’

We’ve been chomping at the bit for this book, desperately looking forward to returning to Lakeside, New Jersey to meet the girl who puts Garrett’s (from Getting Schooled Book #1) best mate, the drum playing, nerdy hot teacher, Dean Walker on his arse! Well, what a hit! We fell in love with everything about this story! The sexiness, the banter, the swoon, the characters and of course, Dean, as brought to life by the undisputed Queen of the male POV, in her own inimitable style!

‘It’s a great kiss, the kind they write songs about. A movie star kiss – that gets the audience all hot and bothered. The kind of kiss that deserves surging background music – a whole soundtrack – that goes on and on and on.’

We love Emma Chase’s writing! It’s so distinctly her. There’s something so warm and beautiful about the way she tells a story. The humour is spot on and again, her male POV is like no other. Plus, we always see a little bit of ourselves in her heroines, so we easily identify with her stories.

They say karma is a bitch and Dean’s about to get well and truly bitched slapped by her! The player does indeed get played by a smart, strong, funny and sexy woman by the name of Lainey Burrows a single mum to 14-year-old Jason who sends his world into a spin.

Whilst on a night out with her sister, Erin to celebrate the success of her lifestyle blog, ‘Life with Lainey’, Lainey catches the eye of a hot drummer who is playing with his band, Amber Sound. After a bit of Dutch courage, Lainey succumbs to their sizzling chemistry and does something quite out of character, spending a night of heart-pounding lust with Dean, leaving the next morning without exchanging details or numbers, however, fate would step in and their paths would cross later.

Erin looks at Dean. “No offense, you seem nice and all – but Ted Bundy seemed like a nice guy too.” “None taken. Ted Bundy ruined it for all of us.”

Lainey and Jason move to Lakelands to restore an old house for her blog, and lo and behold, Jason’s teacher is none other than the hot drummer, who also, as it turns out, is a hot intelligent nerd, teaching Honours and Advanced Placement Calculus at the local school, but there’s something else, Dean discovers…he’s Lainey’s baby Daddy, a role he hadn’t contemplated until Lainey and Jason came into his life. Is he ready to be a father with all the responsibility that goes with it?

‘According to my son, Coach Walker sounds like a combination of Captain America, Eddie Vedder, Chris Hemsworth and Albert Einstein.’

We absolutely loved this story! Lainey was a fiercely protective Mum who had the most amazing relationship with her son. We loved how Dean not only taught these super-intelligent young minds educationally but also, about life. To enjoy it, and to just ‘be kids’. Great message! The sweet and tender intimacy between Lainey and Dean complimented the sizzling and lusty chemistry perfectly.

The Grey Army had us in fits, Lainey’s family gave us a good chuckle and the banter throughout the book had us grinning from ear to ear. A small town romance that really brought the swoon! The wild drummer come sexy professor and his sweet, strong sexy girl. Another winner from the fabulous Emma Chase! We’re really hoping there’s more because we’re loving this series!

“I’m a chance worth taking, I swear to God.”
