Welcome to Snowflake Valley

BARBARA WHITE DAILLE lives in the sunny Southwest where she and her husband love the lizards in the front yard but could do without the scorpions in the bathroom. She also loves writing, reading, and chocolate. Come to think of it, she enjoys writing about those subjects, too!

Barbara wrote her first short story at the age of nine, then typed "The End" to her first novel many years later...in the eighth grade. Now she's writing contemporary romance on a daily basis, with a current series from Harlequin Western Romance (The Hitching Post Hotel) and a brand-new series from Entangled Bliss (Snowflake Valley).

She hopes you'll check out her stories and will drop by to say hi at any of these locations.

SOCIAL CONNECTIONS

"Snowflake Valley is probably one of my favorite places in the world. :) After all, what’s not to love about a little town dedicated to celebrating Christmas 24/7/365?

But seriously. . . I do love this town—and readers have told me they do, too—as well as the “bad luck” Barnett sisters who are featured in the books. Each sister has had a disastrous relationship that has left her believing she’ll never fall in love again. Luckily, fate and Snowflake Valley have other plans. "

ONE WEEK TO WIN HER BOSS
Snowflake Valley, #2

Single mom Amber Barnett loves family, kids, Christmas…and unfortunately, her boss, confirmed bachelor Michael DeFranco. It's a crush she really needs to get over. Except, when she’s temporarily forced from her apartment, her only option is to stay at Michael’s private ski lodge, where she's the housekeeper. No problem. Her handsome boss rarely visits Snowflake Valley unexpectedly, plus he’s spending the holidays with his family. Or so she thinks…

A stormy Christmas Eve reunion leaves Michael seeking the solitude of his lodge, where he finds Amber in residence—and in trouble. Attempting to save her from her matchmaking family, he announces they’re a couple. His good deed backfires when they’re instantly included in each and every holiday event in town. So much for solitude.

Only the more time he spends with the beautiful, cheery brunette, the more he yearns to make things real between them. But he and Amber want different things, and Michael could never be the family man she's looking for.

SNOWBOUND WITH MR. WRONG
Snowflake Valley, #1

Worst. Day. Ever.

After Lyssa Barnett’s sister tricks her into reprising her role at Snowflake Valley's annual children's party, she doesn’t think anything can be worse than squeezing into her too-small elf costume. Then tall, dark, and way too handsome Nick Tavlock shows up to play Santa...and an unexpected storm leaves them snowbound in the isolated lodge.

The last thing Nick wants is to spend a cozy Christmas Eve with a trio of kids and the woman who dumped him. But as much as Lyssa frustrates him, he can't stop thinking about her. And soon, he's fighting very un-Santa-like thoughts of kissing a certain sexy Miss Elf under the mistletoe. As Nick starts to fall for Lyssa all over again, he knows it will take nothing short of a miracle to have Lyssa in his arms on Christmas Day.

UP NEXT for BARBARA:
Upcoming are two more books from my Hitching Post Hotel series, because Grandpa Jed, who owns the hotel and the ranch it sits on, is determined to live up to his title of matchmaker! These will be my first books for Harlequin’s Heartwarming line. And as mentioned above, I’m also working on a story about the third “bad-luck Barnett” sister, which will be book 3 in the holiday-themed Snowflake Valley series from Entangled Publishing.

I have no firm titles or dates yet for these releases, but my newsletter readers will get the big news first, so please sign up if you’re interested in these books and my writing life! Also, I love to chat, so look for me on social media, too.

SOCIAL CONNECTIONS

The Hitching Post Hotel is set on Garland Ranch in the small fictional town of Cowboy Creek, New Mexico.  The series began as a three-book idea I couldn’t let go of, about a loving but busybody grandfather who plays matchmaker to get his three granddaughters married. Naturally, Jed Garland (the ranch and hotel owner) also wants them all to settle down close to him!

I’m so grateful that readers tell me they love coming back again and again to visit the Hitching Post and even reread the stories. Thanks to their enthusiasm—and Grandpa Jed’s refusal to give up his role of Cowboy Creek’s chief matchmaker :) —the series has taken on life of its own. In additional books, Jed has moved on to finding the perfect mates for his granddaughters’ friends and a few marriage-shy cowhands. And our matchmaker’s not done yet! I’m excited to share there are also a couple of new stories coming down the line. More on those below.

THE COWBOY’S LITTLE SURPRISE
The Hitching Post Hotel, April 2015

THE LONG WAY HOME

A guy like Cole Slater is hard to forget. Tina Sanchez should know—for years since high school she's tried to bury the pain of Cole's cruel betrayal. But it's impossible to ignore the man she sees reflected in her young son's eyes now that Cole is back in her life—and about to meet the child he never knew he had.

Returning home to New Mexico, Cole is determined to put his playboy reputation to rest. Especially now that he knows there's a little boy looking up to him. And seeing Tina again reignites all the feelings Cole ran from as a teen. Despite his fear that he can't be the man Tina deserves, he's determined to try. For his son's sake—and his own.

A RANCHER OF HER OWN
The Hitching Post Hotel, July 2015

A REASON TO STAY

Ranch manager Pete Brannigan has no interest in playing tour guide to a city slicker like Jane Garland. But spending a few days with the headstrong photographer is a small price to pay for everything her grandfather has given the single dad. Though Pete's drawn to Jane's sharp wit and striking beauty, he won't hurt his young children by falling for another woman who puts her career before family.

Jane's seen the world through her camera…and used it to shield her emotions. With Pete, she can finally let her guard down. If only he could do the same. Despite their powerful bond, Pete still can't trust Jane with his kids or his heart. But if he keeps pushing her away, he may ruin any chance their relationship has to develop.

THE LAWMAN’S CHRISTMAS PROPOSAL
The Hitching Post Hotel, December 2015

A husband for Christmas?

Mitch Weston's back in Cowboy Creek, and self-proclaimed matchmaker Jed Garland has his single granddaughter Andi on his mind. Mitch is a lawman, good with the little ones and easy on the eyes. He and Andi were high school sweethearts, for heaven's sake! Why can't they see they're perfect for each other?

Because Andi already lost one husband to a dangerous job, and now she's all about playing it safe, for her sake and her children's. Being a cop is everything to Mitch. After discovering Jed's plan, Mitch and Andi come up with their own: they'll pretend to get engaged and then break up due to irreconcilable differences. Jed's got his work cut out for him—because this match needs a Christmas miracle!

COWBOY IN CHARGE
The Hitching Post Hotel, June 2016

TIMING IS EVERYTHING

Single mom Layne Slater thought she'd seen the last of Jason McAndry when he chose the rodeo over her and their unborn son. Now Jason's back in Cowboy Creek and just as handsome as ever. But Layne can't give in to those feelings again. She has to protect her children…and her heart.

Jason wants to try to make up for the pain he caused when he left. The least he can do is help Layne while he's home. Before long, Jason realizes he's finally ready to be the husband, father and man his family deserves. But can Jason prove to Layne that this time, their love is forever?

THE COWBOY’S TRIPLE SURPRISE
The Hitching Post Hotel, March 2017

A BIG SURPRISE—TIMES THREE!

The last time rodeo cowboy Tyler Buckham was in Cowboy Creek, he spent a steamy night with local beauty Shay O'Neill. Back in town for a quick visit, he's hoping they'll have another go-around before he heads for his next rodeo. But seeing Shay pregnant—with triplets!—leaves Tyler feeling as if his best horse has kicked him in the gut.

Shay swore she wouldn't fall for an unreliable cowboy, and Tyler's playboy past makes him even less likely to settle down. The whole town conspires to push them together, and Tyler insists he wants to do his duty by Shay and the triplets, but Shay knows she can't count on promises from a cowboy. Besides, Tyler never once mentioned the word love…

THE RANCHER’S BABY PROPOSAL
The Hitching Post Hotel, May 2017

HER SECRET COWBOY CRUSH

Ally Martinez has always been known as a fun and flirty kind of gal. But deep down she's never forgotten the cowboy who left town. When her crush Reagan Chase comes home after a seven-year absence, Ally knows this is her big chance. The guy I've always wanted. Only Reagan has something different in mind…

Still reeling from his last relationship, Reagan needs a babysitter for his month-old son. With Ally's help, he can get his family's ranch ready for sale and get out of Cowboy Creek. The problem? Ally is one seriously cute distraction. But Reagan will do whatever it takes to keep his heart safe. Even if it means losing the only place—and the only woman—he can call home.

ANGI’s GOTTA ASK:  Where is your favorite writing place & why?
BABARA’S GOTTA ANSWER:  My favorite writing place is also usually the primary place I write:  my office.  I’m very lucky because we have a spare bedroom we were able to convert into the office. It includes a wall-to-wall closet big enough to hold a filing cabinet, a bookcase, and two loooong overhead shelves for reference and writing books. As for the office itself, it’s. . . shall we say. . . overflowing. And I’m not telling how many file cabinets there are in there! LOL

I love my working space because I don’t do well with conversations, television, or any noise going on in the background, and the first good thing about the office is that it has a door to close off the distractions. The second good thing is the door becomes a visual reminder to me—and my muse—to get to work. :)

UP NEXT for BARBARA:
Grandpa Jed still isn’t ready to give up his title of matchmaker! He’ll be making an appearance in two more books from Harlequin in their Heartwarming line. Get Lost in Barbara White Daille and Rancher at Risk

Get Lost in a Story Readers, it’s my privilege to welcome back Barbara White Daille.  Barbara writes exceptional heartwarming stories for Harlequin American Romance.  Each is so unique and compelling, her stories consistently surprise.  She seems to grow with each tale.

RANCHER AT RISK
January 2014
Barbara White Daille

After the loss of his family in a tragic accident, Ryan Malloy has been given one last chance to change his life. His boss sends him to Flagman's Folly, New Mexico, to run his ranch, but unfortunately, Ryan's troubled attitude lands him in hot water with the locals, especially the ranch's manager, Lianne Ward.
Deaf since birth, Lianne has never let her disability define who she is. But, she's yet to meet a man who treats her as an equal. Ryan seems different…that is, when they're not butting heads over the ranch's new school for disadvantaged boys.

Forced to work together, Lianne and Ryan discover an unexpected attraction beneath their quarreling. But will Ryan's painful past drive them apart…permanently?

Excerpt:
"This is an entry-level staff position," Lianne informed him.  "I can do the interviewing on my own."
Her fingers didn't curve into fists, this time, but Ryan could see them in his mind.  "Regardless, I'll be here.  Besides, you might want an independent observer in the room."  He tried a smile again.  "When you're talking to someone you may decide to hire, you want to make sure you stay professional."
She laughed.  "We've had that conversation before, too.  Don't you remember?  I am a professional.  And I know how to act while I'm interviewing."
"Think so?  Well, here's a tip you might find helpful.  Keep your hands away from your face.  Especially when you're holding a pencil."
Her eyes narrowed, then widened in sudden understanding.  She rubbed her cheek with her fingertips.
"Missed it."  He reached up and lightly brushed aside her tendril of hair, then thumbed away the dark smudge on her temple.
Her eyes met his.  Her pink lips softened, and his pulse gave one mighty hitch.
She stepped back, breaking contact, looking away.  "I'd better go check in a mirror."  She moved past him, leaving behind the faint scent of roses.
 And one thoroughly shaken man.

Get Lost in a Story readers:  Please welcome Barbara White Daille.

DONNELL:  Barbara, Your stories always pull at my heart strings.  And I see we’re back in Flagman’s Folly, NM again.  Honestly, you make me believe this place is real.  So I have to ask – you do know it’s a fictional place, don’t you?
BARBARA:  I've spent so much time in this town, it's become very real to me!  This is the fourth book set in Flagman's Folly.  Each book stands alone, with the hero and heroine of that story finding their happy-ever-after.  But because this is such a small, close-knit ranching community, it makes sense that folks would run into each other at the grocery store and the local cafĆ©, at weddings and barbecues and county fairs.  In this town, the residents have a hard time keeping secrets from anyone—especially the matchmakers!

I think it might be this aspect--all these connections, allowing the reader to view the town from so many different eyes—that makes Flagman's Folly real.

DONNELL:  Lianne and Ryan are new characters to me.  Explain how they tie into your series in this book.
BARBARA:  Some of the townsfolk appear in all the Flagman's Folly stories.  The heroes and heroines show up here and there, too.  Lianne's sister, Kayla, is the heroine of the first book, A Rancher's Pride.  Lianne doesn't live in town and communicates with Kayla through computer technology and text messaging.  In that story, for the most part, she plays a small off-screen role.  In other books, she visits Kayla and her family.  And in Rancher at Risk, she comes to town in the role of project manager for a local rancher.

Ryan manages a ranch for that same man, who is the hero of the second book, The Rodeo Man's Daughter.  Other than his boss's family, Ryan is unknown to all the folks of Flagman's Folly, although the reader gets a hint about trouble brewing with him before he makes his appearance in Rancher at Risk.

DONNELL:  I imagine having a deaf character took some additional research.  What did you love about writing Lianne?  What was the most difficult?
BARBARA:  The most difficult part about writing a scene with Lianne was remembering she couldn't hear!  That was also exactly what I loved about her.  What I hope the story shows is that she's very different—NOT because she's deaf, but because she's unique.  As we all are.

DONNELL:  Every book involves research, would you agree?  What’s the most interesting/unusual thing you’ve learned while conducting research?
BARBARA:  I'm a self-confessed chocoholic and, while researching on an unrelated topic one day, I wound up at the Guinness World Records website.  There, I couldn't keep from checking the chocolate stats.  They list the largest chocolate bar in the world as weighing...are you ready???...more than TWELVE THOUSAND POUNDS.  That would keep me supplied for a while!

DONNELL:  (That might last me two weeks) What is the best thing about being an author?  What’s the most difficult?
BARBARA:  The best thing about being an author is being able to take all the stories running around in my head, put them down on paper, and share them with my readers.

The most difficult part about being a writer is letting go of the characters once their story is told.  Luckily, we can always go back and visit with them again and again.

DONNELL:  How often do you get lost in a story?
BARBARA:  Every chance I have.  Whether it's a book I'm reading or one I'm writing, there is absolutely nothing I love better than getting wrapped up in a story and its characters.  When it comes to a good novel, even chocolate ranks second.

DONNELL:  And I haven’t asked this question in forever; what’s in your refrigerator right now?
BARBARA:  Eggs, milk, butter, fruits and veggies, a can of tuna, two bottles of juice, and several kinds of chocolate.

DONNELL -- Chocolate, but of course!  Barbara, it’s your turn.  Time to ask readers a question, and then mention if you’ll do a giveaway.
BARBARA:  Donnell, thanks again for inviting me to visit!

Readers:  If you could become the heroine or hero of a novel, what type of book would you star in and why?
To enter the drawing for an autographed copy of Rancher at Risk, share your answer in a comment by Friday, January 10th.

Barbara White Daille

Get Lost in A RANCHER'S PRIDE

Barbara White Daille knows how to tug on readers' heartstrings. What's more she does it with a finesse that makes it look easy. But today the Get Lost Crew puts her on the spot. I mean, Barbara can talk about craft until ...well, the cows come home... Get it??? A Rancher's Pride ;) Today, though, we're making her answer our fun get-to-know- you questions. Please welcome Barbara White Daille to GET LOST IN A STORY.
Sam Robertson's life just changed. In one short day, he found out that he's a daddy; that his beautiful little girl, Becky, is deaf; and that her aunt, sign language teacher Kayla Ward, intends to fight him for custody.
There are plenty of reasons Sam shouldn't fall for Kayla. A city girl like her has no place on his ranch, particularly when she's his ex-wife's gorgeous sister. But thanks to the judge's orders, Sam's spending a lot of time with Kayla, trying to give Becky the stable home she's never known.

Despite their ongoing custody battle, Sam and Kayla's love for Becky brings them closer than they ever expected, and Sam knows that no matter who wins in court, he could still lose—Kayla or his daughter.

DONNELL: Big city or small town girl?
BARBARA: Small town. Love to read about them, love to write about them. I’ll never say never about bit cities, but so far, all my stories have been set in tiny, close-knit communities. Even though the heroines of three of my four books come from large cities, they find love and happiness and their perfect heroes in small towns.

DONNELL: What’s your favorite room in your house, and why?
BARBARA: The living room, because I can do two of my all-time favorite activities on the couch there: snuggle with my husband and/or curl up with a good book.

DONNELL: What’s in your refrigerator right now?
BARBARA: Leftover lasagna, leftover pizza, leftover spaghetti... (Are you noticing a trend here?)

Now, if you’d asked me what was in my freezer, I could give a much more varied response. In my freezer, I have five bags of different types of chocolate. Hey, a girl’s gotta have choices!

DONNELL: What makes you laugh? What makes you angry?
BARBARA: Laugh: Babies. “I Love Lucy” reruns. Pun-ny jokes.

Angry: Injustice. People who don’t know how to use their car’s directional signals. Not enough chocolate in the freezer.

DONNELL: If you could interview one person, and it doesn’t have to be a writer, who would it be?
BARBARA: It would be a writer. Agatha Christie. She’s one of my favorite mystery writers and the author of the first adult books I’d ever read. She has her critics who put down her characterization skills, etc. I don’t care. For inventiveness, I think she was ahead of her time. And 30+ years after her time, her heirs are still laughing all the way to the bank.

DONNELL: Do you read your reviews?
BARBARA: Uhhh...I’m still a newbie. Yeah, I read my reviews. When one is not so good, I tell myself it’s only one person’s opinion. When a review is good...I try to tell myself it’s only one person’s opinion. Sometimes I even succeed. LOL

DONNELL: Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? If so, what do you do about it?
BARBARA: (Shh! Did you notice I ignored the question? That’s what I try to do with writer’s block. Ignore it. And eventually, it goes away. )

DONNELL: (I noticed.) What is something that not a lot of people know about you but you WISH more people COULD know?Bold
BARBARA: I write for chocolate. No, not really. On a serious note:
I would like people to know my goal as a writer: to bring the same enjoyment to my readers through my books as other authors’ books have brought to me.

DONNELL: Which era would you least have liked to live in, fashion-wise?
BARBARA: The Jazz Age: the Roaring Twenties. Love the music! Don’t have the body for the flapper dresses.

DONNELL: You’ve just invented a time machine. Where are you going?
BARBARA: To the time and place and person who invented the chocolate candy bar.

DONNELL ASKS, BARBARA'S GOTTA ANSWER QUESTION: In honor of Friday the 13th. Are you superstitious?
BARBARA: I am and I’m not. This question connects to the one earlier about reviews. It also ties in to how I feel about my horoscope.

If a monthly horoscope says something good will happen, I make note of the upcoming date(s) and spend time in happy anticipation—when I remember to think about it. If the horoscope predicts bad things, then I don’t believe in it. Or so I tell myself....

So to directly answer the question, I’m superstitious when it works for me. ;-)

BARBARA'S QUESTIONS FOR READERS:
What’s your favorite occupation for a hero—doctor, rancher, military man, construction worker, or...?
And why?

READERS, THERE YOU HAVE IT THIS AUTHOR LIVES FOR CHOCOLATE. COME CELEBRATE BARBARA'S "A RANCHER'S PRIDE" RELEASE. QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS WILL EARN READERS ONE OF BARBARA'S BACK LIST. BE SURE TO LEAVE YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS SO I CAN PUT YOU IN TOUCH WITH HER.
