The OpenStack Deploy hack-a-thon focuses on automation for deploying OpenStack Essex with Dell Crowbar and Opscode Chef. This is a day-long, world-wide event bringing together developers, operators, users, ecosystem vendors and the open source cloud curious. (read below: We are looking for global sites and leaders to extend the event hours!)

OpenStack is the fastest growing open source cloud infrastructure project with broad market adoption from major hardware and software vendors. Crowbar is an Apache 2 licensed, open infrastructure deployment tool and is one of the leading multi-node deployers for OpenStack and Hadoop.

This event will let you learn first-hand how OpenStack and Crowbar can make it easy to deploy and operate your own OpenStack cloud environments.

Why now? We've validated our deployment against the latest release of OpenStack. Now it's time to reach out to the OpenStack and Crowbar communities for training, testing and collaborative development. We'd love to get you up to speed on the basics and dive deep into the core, so join the event!

Tracks

Note: both tracks have recommended Essex-Deploy-Day-Homework

The Deploy day will offer two parallel tracks for Newbies and Experts:

The Newbie Track

Newbies will learn the basics of OpenStack, Crowbar, and DevOps, and how they can benefit your organization. We will demonstrate deploying OpenStack with Crowbar, and ecosystem partners will discuss how they are leveraging OpenStack.

This track will be a live, 2 1/2 hour screencast, broadcast globally. The newbie track will repeat during the day, broadcasting live from Boston and Sunnyvale.

The Experts Track

This track will take a deep dive into new features of OpenStack Essex and Crowbar, and learn how Crowbar works under the hood. We will take deep dives into individual Barclamps, and experts will learn to extend the product using Crowbar Barclamps.

The expert track will have a separate screencast, and live and online collaboration with Crowbar developers and engineers. The expert track is intended for people that already have some familiarity with Crowbar, Chef, and DevOps, and would like to dig deeper.

How to participate

We have simultaneous online and physical locations all day.

You can join the event online from any location, or drop by one of our physical locations. Depending on your skills, you may want to join an earlier Newbie track broadcast, and then switch over to the Expert track later on. If you are attending online or at one of the physical locations, please regster so we can manage the logistics.
