Narrator ~ Carly Robins
POV ~ dual 3rd

Ashlynn & Reid went to high school together, but meet again at their best friends's engagement party years later. She's not too thrilled to see him, but perhaps he can charm his way into her life again.

As you can read from the blurb there's some drama when she's accused of arson, which doesn't bode well for Reid as the newbie at the fire department. Does he handle it well? Initially yes, but then nope. Does he eventually redeem himself in a hilarious manner? Sure does.

Overall, I enjoyed this one. Reid's a pretty sweet guy. Ashlynn was fine, but I'm not feeling the added drama with her parents, which I have a feeling with continue to carry over into the rest of the series.

Series notes:
This series follows siblings, so I suggest reading them in order so that you can familiarize yourself with the family and know who's who and what's what. If you want to go above and beyond read The Donovans: Laurel Bay series first since this series is a spin off from that one.

Narration notes:
Carly does a great job, but it's not a shocker that I'd like a male narrator too.

This is only the second book I’ve read by this author so I am still really new to her book, but so far I am really enjoying her work!

This book is Ashlynn & Reid’s book and it will capture your heart, just like it did mine!

Ashlynn isn’t having much luck when she loses her job at the only salon in the small town she lives in and to make it worse, she flashes the new firefighter in town, Reid… and this wasn’t the first time! The thing is, Ashlynn and Reid met in high school but they lost contact after Reid left town now he is back and they crossed paths again at their best friend’s engagement party years later… and Reid is about to let Ashlynn slip away again. He wants to prove to her that he is the man for her and always has been and that he has had feelings for her since high school. Unfortunately, things are far from perfect when Ashlynn finds herself as a suspect of arson and Reid’s dream job hangs in the balance. Will they be able to overcome this drama and these obstacles and finally find their happily ever after?

Ashlynn is one of a kind. She’s as sassy as they come, a real firecracker. She’s outspoken and stubborn and doesn’t have a problem telling people how she feels and she tends to hold a grudge.

Reid was swoony and such a sweetheart. He’s a hard worker. Even though Reid moved around a lot, he has always felt like Sweetbriar Ridge was his home and now he is back he has a plan to climb the ladder at the fire station of Sweetbriar Ridge.

All in all, this book was fantastic! The connection and chemistry between Reid and Ashlynn was undeniable. I really liked these two! They were both very relatable characters with very relatable problems that they had to overcome. This love story had a bit of everything… drama, emotion, love and humour. I was laughing throughout the book! Absolutely loved it!

5 STARS!

I thought this was a pretty sweet romance. But I struggled with the conflicts. Like they were made too big for added drama. When they were actually pretty mild.

I absolutely loved Reid. He was playful and I loved how persistent he was.

I really struggled to connect with Ashlynn. I loved the idea of her character, but struggled to really find her likable and at times I thought her POV was pretty boring.

I don't know how Carly Robbins makes me forget when I'm listening to one of her books that there isn't a male narrator!! She does such an incredible job everytime with both POVs. I'm honestly blown away!

Thank you so much netgallery for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook in exchange for an honest review!

The Donovan family just keeps spreading the love! First in the original series and now in the Sweetbriar Ridge series. This time we see Ashlynn and Reid get a second chance at making a love connection after a teenage flop left him as a hated nemesis. Unfortunately, things are not smooth sailing as Reid is trying to get his career as a firefighter off the ground and Ashlyn finds herself as the target of an arson investigation. I think the thing that resonates the most about these books are the characters. They are extremely well written and fleshed out so that you can instantly connect to them and understand their thoughts, feelings and emotions. The plots are always well crafted to bring a bit of fun, a bit of angst, a bit of drama and a whole lot of entertainment to the reader. The narrator selected to bring the book to life does an amazing job of taking the wonderful characters and plot that the author created for us and breathes life into them so that we feel like we are living in the moment with the characters rather than just listening to a story. I absolutely can't wait for the next book to be available in this series!

I really wanted to liked this story, but I just didn’t connect with the story and the characters. Besides the chapters were extremely long, I think their romance was very plain and it seemed like there was no development and only physical attraction.

The suspense plot in the story, despite being predictable, was what kept me reading and finish this book

One aspect that I loved was that the love interest wanted to have a picnic with the main character next to the place they were going to buy together and look through her Pinterest board 🫶🏻

Thank you to Valentine PR and Samantha Chase for an opportunity to receive this book as an ARC and in return to give my honest rating and review 🫶🏻

I enjoyed Reid and Ashlynn's story. It was a sweet romance with a sprinkle of drama of course set in a small town.

This was almost too insta lovey for me which is not my favorite but it was still a cute and the drama was fun to read. I knew what was going to happen from the beginning but it was so fun to watch it unravel in the end. Especially when the truth came out. And what were the odds of the same thing happening twice? Ifykyk 🤣!! I'm not sure I would ever recover myself. 😅 I can't wait to see where the next book takes us with the Donovan family.

Expressing my thoughts on 'Teasing You' by Samantha Chase is a bit challenging, as the book, in my opinion, wasn't inherently bad, but it left me with a been there/done that vibe.

The plot and characters lacked a certain imaginative spark, and the romantic elements felt underdeveloped, lacking the chemistry needed to make the connection between the main characters compelling. Despite a quick evolution in their relationship, the lack of substantial development left me struggling to stay engaged and invested in their love story.

Predictability made the plot less enticing. As soon as the main conflict presented itself, the trajectory of the story became glaringly obvious. This, paired with my interest in the main characters depleting as they became more annoying than compelling, left everything feeling a little lacklustre.

When the MCs are first reintroduced, the FMCs response to the situation felt like an overreaction to an ironic and what should have been a humourous moment.

Overall, the book was fine.

As for the narration, Carly Robins performed well. However, in today's competitive landscape, particularly with dual-POV books, the absence of a second narrator for the male perspective felt like a missed opportunity. Listening to entire chapters from the MMCs POV narrated in a female voice, despite the industry trend of employing dual narrators, took me out of the book on several occasions causing a lack of focus on the story.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Samantha Chase has done it again! I absolutely loved Teasing You, the second book in her The Donovans: Sweetbriar Ridge series! I can honestly say that Teasing You is an incredible love story, which filled me with a rollercoaster of emotions, and it was impossible to put it down. I loved every moment on every page. Samantha Chase continues to deliver the incredibly written love stories that I LOVE to read. I love a second chance at love story, the Sweetbriar Ridge setting, and the amazing characters, they feel like family! Samantha Chase does not disappoint her readers with all the feels in Teasing You and has once again delivered an amazing story filled with everything that I have come to love about and expect from her books. Who does not love hot sexy men, strong, passionate females, big loving families, and caring friends, who always support each other? Teasing You is a second chance at love story between Reid Baylor, firefighter and arson investigator who recently relocated to Sweetbriar Ridge and Ashlynn Donovan, hair stylist who recently got fired from Lavish Locks. Reid’s fire captain in Roanoke mentions an opening at the Sweetbriar Ridge fire department, and Reid applies for the job. Reid has always loved the time he spent in Sweetbriar Ridge when he was younger. While Reid is in town for the interview, he runs into Ashlynn at the engagement party of their friends, Leo, and Avery. I love their first interaction with each other, how it is similar to one from their past, and how they end up catching up with one another at the party. Ashlynn’s sister Billie is helping Ashlynn get a business loan to open up her own salon. Reid gets the job, moves to Sweetbriar Ridge, and wants to get reacquainted with Ashlynn. As Ashlynn and Reid head out of town to spend time together, they notice firetrucks heading into town. Reid calls dispatch to make sure that he is not needed at the scene. When they return to town, they learn that Lavish Locks has been destroyed by fire, and the owner Becky is telling everyone that Ashlynn set the fire as retaliation of getting fired. Conversation between Ashlynn and Reid flows so easily and I love that they share secrets with each other that they have not shared with anyone before. I love the chemistry between them. As Ashlynn and Reid spend time together with Reid trying to discover what happened with the fire at Lavish Locks, things change between them. Eventually the fire chief and fire investigator show up at Ashlynn’s apartment to discuss her involvement in the Lavish Locks arson. I love that Ryder Ashford helps Ashlynn with a lawyer. An unexpected plot twist puts Ashlynn and Reid’s relationship in jeopardy, and once again changes things between them. I love the changes that Reid is willing to make to have a life with Ashlynn, and the opportunities that come available to Reid. I love that the arson investigation gets resolved. I was so happy that Reid and Ashlynn finally admitted their true feelings for one another and what Reid does to get back together with Ashlynn. Another favorite part is the epilogue, their new home, and their happily ever after. I love the name the Ashlynn’s new salon and the full circle moment that happens at the salon opening. I love all the changes that Reid and Ashlynn make in their lives to have a future with one another. I love how Ashlynn wants to have a relationship with her estranged father, Ronan, which leads to heart-to-heart conversation with her mother about what happened between them. Teasing You was an amazing love story; I am so glad that Reid and Ashlynn got the happily ever after. I loved all the surprises that filled the pages of this love story. I love how Samantha Chase always manages to create the "perfect" heroine, who is a strong, sassy woman on her own, to balance out the sexy, swoon worthy man. Samantha Chase continues to deliver all that and so much more. I am not sure how she does it, but Samantha Chase has once again given her readers another remarkable book. Teasing You is filled with all the heartbreaking and heartwarming moments and plot twists that I have come to love and expect in a Samantha Chase love story, I especially loved the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. I love that she writes her stories from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting inside their minds and knowing their thoughts and how they really feel. I love all the characters in this series. I enjoy all the interactions among the Donovan siblings, it feels like real family love and makes me laugh at their teasing and the descriptions of the Sweetbriar Ridge in Teasing You. I loved catching up with Patrick, Marissa, and Ryder, as well as the other Donovan siblings. Who does not love family and friends that always have each other’s backs? I cannot wait to read the other stories in The Donovans: Sweetbriar Ridge series. Highly recommend this beautifully written love story. Received an advanced copy from the author.

I received a free ARC from the author and Valentine PR; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.

This series focuses on the Donovan siblings, I’d recommend reading the books in the order they were published.

Ashlynn is the fiery sibling, opinionated and outspoken. She is fired from her job at the local hair salon and weeks later accused by her former boss of starting the fire that torched the salon. Small town gossip and word of mouth is devastating to Ashlynn as her former boss is extremely vocal and accusatory.

Ashlynn is in a new relationship with Reid, a firefighter who recently moved back to Sweetbriar Ridge and who knew Ashlynn in high school. After a less than smooth reintroduction, they eventually begin spending time with each other. The accusations against Ashlynn create some issues between them once Reid feels some ramifications on the job.

The story is interesting, but some of the drama feels extra angsty and forced. Overall this is an entertaining series.

After reading and not liking the first book of this series, I thought I would give this author one more shot before giving up. Unfortunately, this author is not for me. I ended up DNF'ing this at the 40% mark. I found the characters, especially the FMC, to be petty and immature. The relationship between the FMC AND MMC was shallow but made to appear deep after one conversation after they had become intimate. All of a sudden, they were "making love," but just days before, they were fighting, and she basically hated him for not taking things further than a kiss. It was insta-lovey and just all over the place. I didn't care for the narration, and within 6 minutes into the book, the f-bomb was already dropped. I usually don't mind language, but it just felt tacky. From the point of DNF'ing, there was one sexual scene. It was not closed door, but it also wasn't explicitly described. I can not attest to anything after the 40% mark.
Thank you NetGalley, and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to listen and review this advanced copy.

I am loving this new series so much! Ashlynn will steal your heart and having you cheering her on, while Reid will have you swooning, and shaking your head at him! 5 Sweetbriar Ridge stars for this one!
Ashlynn has always been a tough mouthy girl, and it unfortunately gets her fired from her job as a hairdresser at the local hair salon. She's always butted heads with the owner there, but dang, now what will she do for work? While at her besties party, she runs into someone from her past, Reid, who unknowingly set off her insecurities back in school, and oh boy the new run in they have is the same dang one they had back in school! Why can't she catch a break?
Reid is a firefighter, and he's back in Sweetbriar Ridge to check out a job at the fire company. While attending his besties party, he runs into Ashlynn, and wow, she's beautiful, but how he meets her again, brings back memories from school and he's laughing. That sets off Ashlynn and so begins their story!
This book has so much more going on than these two meeting again, there are things going on in Ashlynn's life that will affect Reid's life as well! Samantha had me sucked in from page one and I didn't want to put it down! Don't miss out on book two, and I'm excited for book 3! If you haven't read the first in this series, you're missing out! Grab it now!

I am loving The Donovans series by Samantha Chase. I listened to the audiobook version of this story narrated by Carly Robins. She did an excellent job lending her voice as Ashlynn and other characters.
Blast from the past. Reid returns to his hometown and back into Ashlynn’s life. Hot firefighter still has a thing for the local hairdresser. Chance run ins and Reid’s persistent nature send Ashlynn into a whirlwind of events.
True to Samantha Chase writing style this is another good book added to her roster. I like how each series follows a family. you know them like one of your own family members. keeps me coming back book after book.

Good Story, Unlikable Characters

I had not read the first book in the series and was a little confused a few times in the story so these are not stand alone. I absolutely disliked the main female character, Ashlynn. She was an immature, spoiled brat. No past childhood drama excuses the way she acted. Leo and Avery are people I would never want as friends. I loved the main male character, Reid. Often times he was apologizing when Ashlynn was the one who was wrong. I did appreciate Billie and Chloe.

This is a small town, sexy fireman romance. Ashlynn is a feisty beautiful woman, who is in a season of change.
Reid is a sexy fireman who finds himself moving back to Sweetbriar and feelings like everything in his life is going great.
Ashlynn and Reid had actually went to school together and after a certain incidence she was not his biggest fan. So she wasn’t exactly thrilled to see him back in Sweetbriar.
I absolutely love Teasing You! The banter between Ashlynn and Reid is great, you can feel the tension between them. I feel in love with the town of Sweetbriar again in this book, great town and great people, especially Ashlynn’s family. There was a bit of a situation that had me getting a little nervous through part of the book. Also there is a particular scene towards the end that had me laughing, it was so good. The scene was pure gold! I definitely got that butterfly feeling in this book, Reid can be very swoon worthy! I highly recommend Teasing You!! And can’t wait to come back to SweetBriar again!!

Teasing you was a cute small town second chance romance story. This was a closed door romance but I loved the chemistry of the two main characters.

This was my first firefighter romance and I really love a good dual POV. I read this fairly quickly and overall it was a great story.

Super cute, fade to black romance! If you love romance but aren’t a fan of *details* I highly recommend! This is a second chance, hometown, firefighter romance. Reid returns to his home town for a job when he is reintroduced to Ashlynn, his high school crush. Of course Ashlynn has to go and embarrass herself in front of him in almost the same way she had before.

Not by her choosing, Ashlynn puts herself and Reid in a horrible situation that jeopardizes her life and his career. I think Reid had to do a little too much groveling to rectify his “wrongs” in the situation. I think that Reid handled the situation probably better than most anyone would, all things considered. But alas, I am not Reid and Ms. Chase did an amazing job of tying everything together and ending the story with a HEA.

If you enjoy reading about love in small towns and second chances, then this book is perfect for you. Ashlynn and Reid have known each other since they were in school, but Reid moved away and has now returned. I don't want to spoil the story for you, but I enjoyed how they reconnected and got a second chance at love. The narrator did an excellent job on the audiobook, and I loved the story. This is my second time listening to an audiobook by Samantha Chase, and I can't wait for the next one. The story is cute and heartwarming, and I highly recommend it.

Thanks to Samantha Chase and The Author Agency for the ARC! I received an advance copy of the book and am leaving an honest review. All opinions are my own.

This is my first read by Samantha Chase and the second book in the Donovan's series. This can be read as a standalone. I was excited to read this based on the tropes and description of the book. A firefighter! She's suspected of arson and he needs to prove it wasn't her! Unfortunately, this book was just kind of meh for me.

I had a hard time liking Ashlynn. Her character was somewhat unbelievable at times and I felt like she acted rather immature. Reid was an absolute sweetheart but I also didn't feel he did his best in trying to help prove Ashlynn's innocence. There was some major drama that seemed over the top for what I thought was going to be a fun and easy read.

It was fine and I liked certain aspects of the story. Will I read this again? No, probably not. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

A charming second chance story!

Ashlynn and Reid are the perfect example of right place, wrong time. They begin under a bit of enemies to more vibes stemming from their high school days, then they form a genuine friendship.

It took me some time to warm up to Ashlynn, but I'm so glad I did, cuz her character growth was worth waiting for. I wanted to shake some sense into Reid a time or two, but what character thinks rationally all the time?

I enjoyed the small town rally around it's newest firefighter and the sassy hairdresser wrongly accused of a crime.

The audiobook for Teasing You put me through all the feels and I loved every moment. I can't wait for more in the Sweetbriar Ridge series of The Donovans!

This was a cute romance with some humor tossed in. I really love small towns and the aspect that one person in a small town can make such a big impact and a big deal of things. It seems so unreal until you experience small town life. Plus, the male lead is a firefighter and that’s a fantasy I think many of us can agree on.

🌀Synopsis
Ashlynn is down on her luck, it seems. She lost her job and now the guy she ran away from years ago, Reid, is back in town. She’s not surprised to find she still has feelings for him but she does try to press them down and ignore them. Not Reid though. Reid is all in and makes it very clear how he feels.
When Ashlynn is accused of a crime, Reid and Ashlynn come together to try to figure out what could have happened. They also find a way for Ashlynn to move forward into her own career.

Teasing You by Samantha Chase, is the second book in The Donovans Series: Sweetbriar Ridge, now its the turn of Ashley Donovan who we find when she is going through a somewhat difficult situation, she has just lost her job as a stylist and is thinking what will be her next step, since where she worked was the only hair salon in Sweetbriar Ridge, and to complete her bad days during her best friend's engagement party she ends up, by accident, showing her panties to one of the guests. Only this guest is not someone else, but a boy from his past, who is no longer a boy but a man, who the last time she saw him was in the same situation. Reid Baylor is a firefighter and has always stood out for his hard work and always being responsible and dedicated to his profession. When his boss presents him with the opportunity of a change to a station in Sweetbiar Ridge, he is excited about his future, since he does not only will he have the opportunity to return to the only place where he always felt like he belonged, but it's the perfect opportunity to achieve the position he wants within the force, and everything seems to go even better when at his best friend meets the girl he was completely in love with at school, but when an incident happens and he reminds her of what happened at school she gets upset and when he tries to come and apologize she simply doesn't even want to listen to him, but he is not willing to leave things like that and will do what is necessary to made her forgive him and give him a chance. They will soon begin a friendship and when they succumb to their feelings, Ash must work to avoid losing him by making the mistakes of the past as a result of his fears and Reid showing her that she is the woman he wants. But for these two things will become complicated when Ash is accused of having started a fire, which will put her in the crosshairs of gossip and for Reid when by association he could lose his job, added to this the lack of communication between them will lead to them possibly losing each other.
LOVE this story! The Donovans are one of my favorite families and knowing their stories always leaves me with a smile on my face. This story is fresh, funny, sexy, with a touch of angt, some drama, but also a lot of sensuality, passion and love. Ash and Reid are perfect for each other, but they must learn to communicate in order to face the challenges they face, and together with the other Donovan characters they make this a wonderfully charming story. You shouldn't let this story pass you by, I know you'll love it I can't wait for the next book!!!!!. Absolutely Highly Recommended!

Absolutamente Altamente Recomendada!

Now, before we jump into the tale, let me tell you that I'm rating this book a solid 4 stars. It's definitely a sweet treat you won't want to miss out on. Especially If you're a fan of small-town romances with a bit of humor and plenty of heart, then this book will feel like it was made just for you.

In "Teasing You," we reunite with Ashlynn Donovan, sister to Levi from the first book in the series, "Loving You." Ashlynn's life takes a tumble when she finds herself jobless after being fired from the only salon in town and accidentally flashing the town's hot new firefighter, Reid Baylor... For the second time in her life. At least this time her panties were better! But talk about an embarrassing encounter! But Reid isn't ready to let Ashlynn slip away again, and he's determined to prove that he's the man for her, he's been crushing on her since his school days after all.

Now, let's talk about our protagonists. Ashlynn is a firecracker of a character, with a spunky attitude to match. She is also one to hold a grudge! And Reid? He always felt like Sweetbriar Ridge was home even though he moved a lot as a kid. Now hes back and has a plan for his life, to climb the ladder at the local fire station. He's not afraid of commitment, both in his career goals and in his persistence in pursuing Ashlynn. It is downright swoon-worthy. Together, they make quite the pair, and I found myself rooting for their happily ever after from the very first page.

Our girl Ashlynn finds herself suspected of arson and Reid's dream job hangs in the balance as he is her alibi! Multiple people are telling him to take a step back or risk his career. Will they overcome the obstacles in their path and find their way to each other's hearts? Well friends, you'll have to read the book to find out! I can't give it all away, now can I?

One other thing my friends, you know I like some spice in my romance books. While "Teasing You" might not be the spiciest romance out there, it more than makes up for it with its captivating storyline and endearing characters. Sure, I would've loved a bit more heat, but I was too invested in Ashlynn and Reid's journey to notice the lack of it until the end of the story.

So, if you're in the mood for a charming romance set in a small town, then "Teasing You" is the perfect pick for your next read or listen. Samantha Chase delivers a delightful story filled with laughter, love, and just a hint of drama that'll leave you with a smile on your face. The narrator Carly Robins did a wonderful job giving life to this novel. You won't regret giving it a listen.

A big thank you to Samantha Chase for creating such a delightful read, to the audiobook narrator Carly Robins for bringing it to life, and to NetGalley and Dreamscape Publishers for supplying me with a copy of this story for my honest review.

I am SOOOOOO in love with Samantha Chase’s latest release Teasing You. I have read Teasing you once and have listened to it twice since its release.
Teasing you is the 2nd book in Ms. Chase’s newest series The Donovan’s (Sweetbriar Ridge). And in my honest opinion, this series is wonderful. The character development which started in Kiss Me book 5 in Ms. Chase’s The Donovan’s (Laurel Bay). All of the lead characters is these series have been kick butt, get the job done. But they each have had some small flaws as well.
The main characters are in this book are Reid Baylor and Ashlynn Donovan. Reid, is a firefighter newly transplanted, or rather re-transplanted in Sweetbriar Ridge. His family moved around a lot growing up, but Sweetbriar Ridge was the place he knew he always wanted to return to and plant roots in. Reid’s flaw, worry of career and advancement over, worry of a woman he professes to be falling in love with. Ashlynn is a hair stylist in Sweetbriar Ridge, a very well-loved stylist. Well, maybe not so much by EVERYbody. Sorry Ladies, I cannot give anything away. Ashlynn’s flaw, she has abandonment issues, rightly so, but again, I cannot give anything away about why. You will need to read the books in the series to find out why.
I love watching these “enemies”. well in Ashlynn’s mind anyway, come together. When Reid and his family lived in Sweetbriar Ridge the first time, there was an “incident”, which lead Ashlynn to consider Reid as an enemy. And wouldn’t you know it, the first time Reid returned, the same thing happened AGAIN!!! However, Reid is determined to get Ashlynn to really see him, and like him!
When there is a fire in Sweetbriar Ridge thought to be arson and Ashlynn is being considered a suspect and needs Reid for moral support, he abandons her.
Okay, Ladies, I have to stop here. I do not want to give anything away. I will say this, it takes some MAJOR groveling for Reid to return to Ashlynn and her family’s good graces!!!
I was gifted with a copy of this wonderful book for my thoughts and opinions of the book. I LOVED it so much, as I indicated above, I purchased the audio of the book, and have listened to it twice, since it hit my phone.
The narrator that performed Tease You was Carly Robins. She performs a good many of Ms. Chase’s books, probably because she does such stellar performances. I can always count on Ms. Robins to bring any book to life for me.
Thank you for reading my review. So now, what are you waiting for? Go hit that purchase button from your favorite retailer, and start reading, and come back and let us know what you think of the book. Authors ALWAYS appreciate it when readers review their books.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for gifting me this ALC of the audiobook to review.

I love romance books but alas this one was a bit underwhelming for me. I would even say that my standards are pretty low, as long as the main characters don’t exhibit “red flag behaviour” and there is a bit of chemistry, a slightly compelling story, likeable characters or just nice vibes, I am happy.

Sadly, this book did not succeed in ticking any of these boxes for me, apart from the fact that there was no obvious “red flag behaviour”. The book is set in a small town, but unfortunately, there is no cosy small-town feeling to the book at all. The only thing that let the readers know that this book is in fact set in a small town was by mentioning that it was a small town and the fact that gossip spread widely. None of this adds any cosy vibes and the way everyone is in each other's business without actually supporting one another seems more toxic than anything.

I felt that there was no chemistry between the love interests. They meet again, and have a bit of an awkward encounter, the MMC decides he in fact likes the FMC and pursues her for a day or so, they get together, and that’s it in terms of romantic pursuit - there’s no sexual tension whatsoever. The fact that they knew each other in high school does not strengthen the believability of their connection either, because it is only mentioned that everyone always thought that the FMC was hot, therefore the MMC also thinks she is hot.

One of the reasons for the lack of chemistry between the characters might also be because the description of the characters was pretty shallow as well. We know what they do for work, we know the names of their best friends and maybe what they look like (but not sure because I never remember and don’t pay attention to physical descriptions of characters).

I already mentioned that the romantic story was lacklustre. The additional storyline of the Arsen allegation just made me angry, because that is just not how investigations work and had I read this as a book, not an audiobook, I would have skipped this part of the book entirely because it was not just aggravating and a little anxiety-inducing, but also very predictable. The MMC’s handling of the situation did not make me believe in this relationship any more than I previously did either. Then there is another small subplot about the FMC’s family. I feel like I was missing some parts of the story because this is the only book I have read in this series. This part of the story felt very shallow as a result.

In terms of the audiobook, the narrator wasn’t bad, but this book could have definitely profited from a dual narration.

I knew it was just a matter of time before Ashlynn Donovan got herself into trouble but who knew that Miss Hazel and her hair gone wrong would be the straw that broke the camel’s back and started the ball rolling on everything that happened in this story. Ashlynn definitely deserved better than what happened to her at Lavish Locks, but I knew that Becky was trouble with how she treated and handled Ashlynn and that situation. However, Ashlynn has to keep going and who knew that her being invited to her friend’s engagement party would lead her back to someone from her past especially when they had a second memorable meeting when she ended up flashing him again in her underwriter. I really like Reid but wasn’t sure he and Ashlynn would be good together and I’m definitely glad I was wrong on that. I’m glad that Ashlynn and Billie, with the help of Patrick and Marissa, were able to apply to get financing for Ashlynn to open her own salon. But I knew that things were going a little too smoothly and something was bound to happen, unfortunately I was right. I was so mad when everyone was pointing fingers at Ashlynn and Reid by association and saying she did it all because Becky started the rumor and wouldn’t shut up and with the small town, the gossip spread like wildfire. And Reid was also starting to get pressure at work because of his position and when his fire chief put him on leave and he left town without telling Ashlynn, I knew things were serious. I was starting to get a little concerned that Ashlynn was going to actually get charged when things changed and the Fire Chief and the inspector pay Ashlynn a visit and need her help in taking down the real culprits. I have to say that was one of my favorite parts, watching Becky and of course her cohort Sandy get what they ultimately deserved. I was surprised at how much work they went to, to try and frame Ashlynn, I’m glad it didn’t work. Once that situation was put to bed, Ashlynn was able to look forward to opening her own salon and trying to fix things with Reid. Before they had a chance to talk, however, Reid showed up at the new salon with the ruse of having to do an ‘inspection,’ but he had the best grand gesture for Ashlynn. Love how everything turned out and I’m so looking forward to watching what will happen next for Ashlynn and Reid. I also liked Patrick and Marissa being so involved in this book especially and we got to see Ryder as well. I’m definitely looking forward to Chloe’s story next.

TEASING YOU is the second instalment in Samantha Chase’s contemporary, adult THE DONOVANS: SWEETBRIAR RIDGE romance series-a spin off from the author’s THE DONOVANS series. This is hair stylist Ashlyn Donovan, and firefighter Reid Baylor’s story line. TEASING YOU can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information form the previous story line or series is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Reid and Ashlyn) TEASING YOU follows the building relationship between our story line couple. Reid Baylor has crushed on Ashlyn Donovan for as long as he can remember but when he family moved away from Sweetbriar Ridge, Reid never expected to see Ashlyn again. Fast forward to present day, Reid is returning Sweetbriar Ridge as a firefighter but a friend’s engagement brings Reid up close and personal with our story line heroine. Ashlyn Donovan is struggling in the wake of losing her job but a suspicious fire at her former place of employment points a finger at Ashlyn Donovan, and a new relationship with Reid Baylor threatens any and all hopes for a unbiased investigation. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Reid and Ashlyn, and the potential fall-out as the investigation into the fire pushes Reid out of Ashlyn’s life, as Ashlyn struggles to prove she is not the guilty party.

The world building focuses on second-chances, of a sort. Reid and Ashley’s high school friendship was tumultuous at best, and his return to Sweetbriar Ridge only adds insult to injury when everything begins to spiral out of control. Someone is pointing fingers at our story line heroine, and her relationship with Reid is collapsing in response. There are no $ex scenes-everything is implied.

Once again, there is a large ensemble cast of familiar secondary and supporting characters including many of whom we met in the previous series. We are introduced to Ashlyn’s twin Chloe, their old sister Billie, as well as the return of their brother Levi and his girlfriend Jade.

TEASING YOU is a story of betrayal, jealousy and vengeance, secrets and lies, family and friendships, relationships and love. The premise is spirited ; the characters re animated and determined; the romance is passionate.
