LOCATION:

The Partnership team works in a hybrid capacity. This position is expected to be in schools 60% of the time, with occasional visits to the Partnership office in Downtown LA. School sites are based in Boyle Heights, South Los Angeles, and Watts.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools is seeking a Coordinator of School Transformation, Elementary Math, to join our effort to improve learning and academic achievement for students in the Boyle Heights, South LA, and Watts communities. In collaboration with the Senior Director of School Transformation, Partnership staff, and school and teacher leaders, the Coordinator of School Transformation will lead professional development, coaching, and special projects designed to coach schools through their growth and development process. The Coordinator of School Transformation will report to and assist the Senior Director of School Transformation with strategic planning and implementing Partnership Academics Team initiatives. The ideal candidate for this position will have significant experience with math instruction, professional development and coaching, implementation of blended learning, the Common Core State Standards, and High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM). This is a full-time, year-round position.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Supervision, Coaching, Training, & Support (50%)

  • Lead and support teachers to develop collaborative environments focused on student outcomes
  • Work directly with teacher leaders across Partnership schools to plan for and lead data cycles with grade-level or department teams of teachers
  • Conduct classroom observations and coaching conversations to support teacher growth and promote student learning
  • Assist site leaders in observing for and supporting effective instruction of Common Core 
  • Lead coordination structures on school-based supports for leaders and teachers around instruction
  • Provide schoolwide professional development on mathematics teaching and learning
  • Train instructional coaches and school leaders on effective coaching strategies
  • Support cohort of new and veteran teachers with coaching sessions  
  • Support with school-wide observations and school reviews, build CTA goal-setting and reflection protocols, and facilitate elementary staff team meetings 
  • Potentially manage Math Coaches to fully implement the Partnership’s math vision and initiatives at respective school sites
 

Curriculum Development & Implementation (25%)

  • Develop and execute data-driven initiatives for elementary math instruction at Partnership schools
  • Assist with the development and use of curricular materials, including curriculum maps, common assessments, and other tools, to support teachers and students in meeting the demands of Common Core 
  • Work across schools to build teacher capacity in math to implement Common Core instruction utilizing pacing guides, planning from standards, developing assessments, and implementing instructional strategies
 

Data & Impact (20%)

  • Facilitate ongoing data inquiries to determine progress and needs of school site instructional initiatives, and support school leaders and teacher leaders in executing data cycles
  • Assist teachers with implementing technology-connected learning programs and interpreting data provided by these programs to inform instruction
 

Special Projects (5%)

  • Develop full-day professional learning experiences that develop Teacher Leaders’ skills around instruction
  • Co-develop and co-facilitate professional learning experiences for Partnership-wide Elementary Math PD, Teacher Leader Program, Leadership Conferences, and New Teacher Orientation
 

POSITION FIRST-YEAR PRIORITIES

A successful first year in this role will include:

  • Build relationships with school-site leaders, teachers, and Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) members 
  • Build relationships and collaborate with Partnership staff and external partners
  • Understand curricular programs (Eureka Math and iM) across TK-5th grade
  • Understand longitudinal multiple measures of school-site data across all 11 Partnership elementary schools 
  • Lead and co-lead key initiatives and bodies of work (Ex: ES Team Leads, New-to-Curriculum Trainings, HQIM Walks)
 

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 5 years of successful full-time teaching experience
  • At least 2 years of successful leadership experience within the school context (coach, department chair, BTSA coach, peer observer, etc.)
  • At least 1 year of experience managing teammates preferred, but not required
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree related to math/subject matter preferred
  • A proven record of academic success working with students in historically underserved schools and setting high expectations for teachers and students
  • Extensive experience with classroom observations and crafting individual teacher feedback and communicating trends across classrooms
  • Deep working knowledge of adult learning theory, facilitation skills, professional development design, and coaching
  • Deep working knowledge of Common Core Instructional Shifts, Common Core State Standards for Math
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, inspire, and build strong working and mentoring relationships with adults
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with administrative staff, instructional staff, and support staff
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to utilize quantitative and qualitative analysis to support decision-making and use assessment data to inform instruction
  • Ability to travel between school site and home office regularly
  • Smarter Balanced Item Reviewer and/or Writer a plus
  • Proficient in Spanish preferred
     

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The starting salary range for external candidates is $100,625-$107,813. The Partnership’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion extends to our compensation practices.
